Chapter 284:
The events unfolded too quickly.
Before Belinda could process what was happening, Kristopher, who was at the wheel, had already released it,
stretched his arms forward, and pressed her head down, enfolding her completely in his embrace.
The sounds of his heartbeat and the crash echoed in her ears. Overwhelmed by a terrifying sense of
weightlessness, Belinda instinctively clung to Kristopher’s body.
Nestled in his warm hold, her racing heart began to settle slightly. With her eyes shut and her voice shaking, she
whispered, “Kristopher, are we going to die?”
Kristopher’s eyes immediately snapped to attention, noticing the tremor in Belinda’s voice. In an instant, he
seized her hand firmly, his voice calm but resolute. “We won't!”
As he spoke, Belinda watched in shock as he unbuckled his seatbelt. Her eyes widened in disbelief. “You...”
Before she could say another word, Kristopher leaned in, shielding her with his body. He wrapped his arms
securely around her shoulders and head. As the car plummeted downwards at breakneck speed, Kristopher’s

Enveloped in his embrace, Belinda could distinctly hear his heartbeat and strained breaths. The car's violent
jerks tossed them up and down, rolling repeatedly. Her body was overwhelmed with the turmoil, and the pain
consumed her completely. She clutched Kristopher’s clothes, her face turning deathly pale.
“Bang!” A loud crash echoed as the car plummeted off the cliff, landing on the soft sand below. Simultaneously,
distant explosions and crashes filled the air. Tightly held in Kristopher’s arms, Belinda heard the far-off screams
of men, her emotions a tangled mess. Then, a warm liquid began trickling down from the top of her head,
blurring her vision with a flash of crimson.
In panic, Belinda lifted her head, her voice shaking. “Kristopher!”
He was bleeding.

“Belinda, are you okay?” Kristopher’s voice was faint, but full of concern.
Despite his injuries, Kristopher held Belinda protectively, his voice strained. At that moment, her concern was
solely for him. She struggled to free herself from his embrace. “You're hurt!” she cried.
He managed a pained smile. “I'm... I'm fine.”
The distant firelight cast a pale glow across his face. “I told you, you wouldn't die.”
Tears brimmed in Belinda’s eyes. Her voice trembled as she said, “Letsee where you're hurt!”
Kristopher only shook his head and insisted, “I'm fine...”
How could he possibly be fine?
Belinda bit her lip. Just as she was about to protest again, Kristopher’s arms around her slackened. Suddenly, his
body went limp and collapsed into her arms. He had fainted.
The car was badly damaged from the crash. It seemed Kristopher had instinctively shielded the passenger side.
Thankfully, the door on Belinda’s side was less damaged and could still be opened with effort. She managed to
pry it open and, with great difficulty, dragged Kristopher’s tall form from the vehicle.
Three years earlier, when Belinda had been charged with caring for him, she had mastered the art of lifting him
despite his height advantage. Now, her body weakened by illness, she summoned every ounce of resolve to
carry him from the car to the remote beach.
