Chapter 280:

She once thought that learning to dance, drink, and race with Joyce was the wildest thing she'd done. But now,

she was experiencing real craziness. Kristopher, the CEO of a multinational corporation, was sprinting wildly

across the campus with her at night, dressed in a student's pajamas. It felt like something out of a movie. Even if

she shared this story, who would actually believe her?

Suddenly, she understood why Kristopher had used his connections earlier to have the security office clear out

the men in black cars. The night air rushed past her ears, and Belinda felt a surge of adrenaline reminiscent of

her most spirited days five years ago. However, she remembered too late that she was still recovering.

Already drained, her endurance just couldn't sustain the prolonged run. Her steps started to falter, drained of

strength, while a burning sensation flared in her chest, adding to the pain in her already ailing stomach.

“Kristopher,” she gasped, clutching her chest. “I can’t run anymore.”

“But we haven't run that long...” Kristopher’s words trailed off as he caught sight of Belinda’s face. Something

was wrong. She was as white as a ghost!

She couldn’t have gone so pale just from physical exertion.

Kristopher suddenly remembered the last the had visited Ady Tucker, the person who used to take care of

him. Her complexion had been no different from Belinda’s now. The difference, though, was that Ady had been in

the late stages of cancer.

Kristopher’s chest tightened at the thought. He firmly grasped Belinda’s wrist and forced her to look at him.

“What's wrong?” he demanded. “Are you ill?”

“No... | can’t run anymore,” Belinda gasped, rubbing her free hand across her chest. She struggled to breathe

properly. “Go on without me. | don’t think they'd do much to a woman, anyway, so—"

“Ah!” She was cut off as Kristopher suddenly scooped her up into his arms.

Belinda couldn't help but yelp as her feet left the ground, and her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck.

Kristopher scowled. She was light as a feather. Holding her close, he hurtled forward, careful not to jostle her too

much.

“Belinda.”

The sound of her non his lips calmed her somehow.

Belinda took as deep a breath as she could and glanced up at him. Her eyes met his smooth, chiseled jawline.

The night lamps around the campus lent a golden hue to his sculpted features, and she suddenly found it

difficult to look away.

“Tellthe truth. Are you sick?” Kristopher sounded worried, almost panicked, even. “Why are you so pale?”

Even if she was suffering from sgrave ailment, surely she shouldn't be as ashen as someone who was dying,

right?

Taken aback by his question, Belinda shrank back in his arms. “I'm fine. I'm not sick. I'm just... tired.” But

Kristopher didn’t buy her lie.

He rushed to his car, yanked the passenger door open, and carefully deposited Belinda into the seat before

hurrying around the vehicle to the driver's side.

Kristopher slid behind the wheel, fastened his seatbelt, and started the engine in one fluid motion. He was still

scowling as he put the car into gear. “I'm taking you to the hospital.”

Belinda froze in the act of buckling her seatbelt. She told herself to calm down and exhaled slowly as she clicked

the clasp into place. “That won't be necessary at all.”
