“I apologize,” Darren said after a pause, his voice firm. “Belinda, | will be more mindful.”
“Let's go.”
Belinda inhaled deeply and turned to leave.
“Miss Nelson!”
As Belinda exited the storage room and entered her office, Susie hurried toward her.
She clutched Belinda’s hands, her eyes wide with apology. “I'm so sorry! | had no idea you were employed here...
That explains Darren's reaction.”
Looking remorseful, Susie added, “I regret calling you those names. | promise to keep those tabloids out of the
office.”
“It’s alright. You were unaware,” Belinda stated, her brow furrowed in mild annoyance.

Behind her, Darren gave Susie a stern look. “Now that you're aware, mind your language.”
Susie scowled and murmured, “Why do you make such a fuss over her? You want a forsaken woman?”
Darren's eyes turned cold and piercing. “Be careful with your words. Don’t lethear you say that again, or

After his warning, he hurried to catch up with Belinda.
Susie snorted and sent a cold glance in their direction. She pulled out her phone, snapped a photo of them, and

Darren caught up with Belinda outside the office building and asked, “Where are you headed now? Going home?
I'm heading that way too. Could we go together?”
“Darren, | need stalone,” said Belinda, stopping in her tracks. Her response left Darren silent for a

After a pause, he pursed his lips and offered, “I'll drive you home. | promise to keep quiet the whole way.”

“Just this once,” Darren urged, looking at her intently. “Today's your first day back at work. Lethelp you out,
okay? If you prefer to be alone tomorrow, I'll respect that.”
Though reluctant, Belinda nodded and got into his car.
True to his word, Darren maintained silence throughout the drive.
They soon arrived at the foot of her apartment building.
Darren then insisted on accompanying her upstairs to the doorstep. Seeing that he was firm, Belinda agreed. She
knew he meant well, though his behavior seemed unusual today.
It wasn’t until she reached her apartment and opened the door that she discovered the reason behind Darren’s
actions that day.
