Chapter 142:
Kristopher’s eyebrows furrowed as he gazed at her in silence. Belinda found it utterly boring.
She glanced at him with indifference and spoke his name, “Kristopher. Had I not fallen ill and missed our meeting
that day, our marriage would have ended long ago.”
“So, you missed the appointment because you didn’t really want the divorce, did you?”
His eyes narrowed, a mocking tone in his voice. “Belinda, there’s only so much one can create. You've
threatened divorce too many times. It’s bound to happen eventually.”
He had believed the divorce saga was over when she took refuge in the hospital, avoiding the court and the
finalization of their divorce!
And yet, here she was, bringing it up again.
It seemed endless, an exaggeration gone too far!
For a moment, Belinda was taken aback, slowly grasping the implication of his words.
Did he really think she was just venting and didn’t want a divorce?
What was going through his mind?
Did he still think she was the sperson who once dreaded the thought of leaving him? She was utterly
frustrated!
With a helpless sigh, Belinda suddenly lost the will to continue the conversation.

He arrogantly dismissed her concerns, convinced she was overreacting and that she would never actually leave
him.

Fed up, Belinda yanked on Kristopher’s arm, too frustrated to utter another word. She spun around and hurried
toward the stairwell.
Overwhelmed by her emotions, or perhaps misled by the dim light in the fire exit, she missed the first step and
tumbled down the stairs.
In a flash, Kristopher leaped forward and caught her arm, yanking her back to safety.
Propelled by the sudden motion, her slight frcrashed into his chest.
The familiar scent of cedar from him enveloped her.
Shocked, Belinda instinctively pressed against him, her breathing rapid, her heart racing.
Sensing her distress, Kristopher frowned. He soothingly rubbed her back, his voice chilly as he warned, “You
already took a nasty fall down the stairs this morning. Are you trying for a repeat performance? You might break
a leg this time.”
His stern tone gradually calmed Belinda’s frantic heart.
After a moment, she inhaled deeply, pulling away from his embrace. “Thank you,” she muttered, her voice low.
She then turned to grasp the stairwell’s handrail, intent on descending alone.
But as she moved, Kristopher watched her determined, slender figure. He raised an eyebrow, stepped forward,
and, without a word, scooped her into his arms.
Belinda’s feet left the ground, and she instinctively clutched at his clothes, her exclamation caught in her throat.
After a moment, the reality of the situation dawned on her.
Belinda resisted, exclaiming, “Letgo!”
“Let you go?”
Kristopher’s voice rose in disbelief as he tightened his hold on her, hurrying toward the consultation room. “Do
you want to tumble down the stairs again? Are you a masochist?”
Belinda scowled and shot back, “That's none of your concern! Let go of me!”
Her attempts to free herself grew more frantic. “Putdown!” she demanded.
Kristopher had rarely held her this close during their ttogether. Now, with divorce proceedings looming, he
found himself embracing her twice in less than a morning. Was there something wrong with him?
As Belinda continued to squirm in his grasp, a subtle smile played on Kristopher’s lips, a hint of amusement
flickering in his eyes that even he didn’t fully notice.
So, she had her fiery moments too.
The old Belinda had always been poised, serene, and softly spoken—almost like a well-programmed robot.
But now, amidst the chaos of their divorce and her plans to move out, she seemed to transform into someone
entirely new—vibrant and full of life.
With a mischievous glint in his eye, Kristopher loosened his grip slightly. “If you keep up this fuss, | might just let
you go and see if you really do fall.”
