Chapter 1620:
Kristian opened it, expecting Brielle, but saw no one at first.
Just as he started to close it, he spotted a small figure below.
“Nina?” Kristian swung the door wide.
“Can | cin and talk?” Nina asked, her face adorable and serious. “I've got something to tell you.”
Kristian welcomed her in, and they sat on the couch. “What’s on your mind?”
“What do you think of Miss Hammond?” Nina asked straight out.
Kristian blinked, a bit confused. “What do you mean?”
“You're a grown-up. Shouldn't you know this stuff better than | do?” Nina said, her tone earnest.
Kristian caught her drift. “Are you asking if | want to be with her?”
“Yep!” Nina nodded, her face lighting up.
Without hesitating, Kristian answered honestly, “No.”
“Why not?” Nina tilted her head, her big eyes full of questions. “She's pretty and so kind. You should like her.”
“Grown-up feelings are a bit different from what you know,” Kristian said gently. “You can think lots of people are
great, but only one person makes your heart beat fast.”
“Beat fast?” Nina looked puzzled, her brow furrowing.

Nina pressed her tiny hand to her chest and then said softly, “My heart's always beating.”
Kristian froze, unsure how to explain further. If he used his own words, Nina might not get it. But if he made it too
simple, the meaning might get lost.
“My mom says if your heart stops beating, it means someone's gone and won't cback,” Nina said seriously.

After finishing her words, something seemed to click in Nina's mind, and her eyes suddenly turned glassy. “Uncle
Kristian, does your heart... not beat anymore?”
Kristian was caught off guard and didn’t know how to respond.
Jesse, who had been quietly curled up in the corner with his book, couldn't help but chin. “He was talking
about feelings, not the actual heart.”
He closed his book, got up, and strolled over. “You don’t get this stuff yet, but once you know how to solve
equations, you will.”
“What are equations?” Nina asked, her little brows furrowing in confusion. “Are they really hard?”
“Depends on the person,” Jesse answered, keeping it short.
“What if | can’t figure them out?” she asked again, clearly still puzzled by the idea.
Jesse stayed calm. “You'll get it when it’s time.”
Nina gave a serious nod.
