Chapter 1029
Thalassa was aware that Evelyn had set out to job hunt that day, looking specifically for a
cleaner’s position.
“Job hunting is a piece of cake, just a tiny bump in the road. But the way those rich folks
live it up, it turns my stomach.” Evelyn confessed, still visibly shaken by the experience.
Thalassa glanced down to see four little ones staring up with wide, innocent eyes full of
wonder and confusion.
“Granny, what did you see? Can you tell us a story?” Dorian, the story-lover, was always
eager for a complex tale. The more tangled the better, so he could act it out later.
“Well…” Evelyn hesitated. She suddenly realized that the presence of the children.
Discussing the seedier side of adult affairs with Thalassa in such a rush might not be
appropriate.
“It’s getting late. You all should take your baths and get ready for bed. Granny will tell you

“Mommy has to talk to Granny about some grown-up things, so off you go and bathe. I’ll
tuck you in later.”
“Okay.” The little ones were indeed tired. They chorused their agreement, obediently
following the servants to the bathroom.
Then, Thalassa led Evelyn into Atticus’ room, had her take a seat, and poured her a glass
of water. “What did you see that’s got you so rattled, even in front of the kids?”
Evelyn took the water, gulping down more than half to steady her breath, then turned to
Thalassa. “I went to look for you in room 2809, and what I saw was… was just appalling.”
Evelyn went to room 2809 – had she possibly seen Lysander and Susan together?
Thalassa’s heart sank, her hand tightening around the glass.
Unaware of Thalassa’s distress, Evelyn continued, “Susan came out of Lysander’s room
disheveled, her face flushed with the afterglow of a tryst. And to my horror, she then went
straight across to Room 2806, which also housed a man. I overheard her boasting she was
attending to Mr. Joshua that evening in every possible way!”
“The same woman, sleeping with Lysander and then with that old man Mr. Joshua! Do
these wealthy people have no shame? How chaotic their lives are! Thalassa, my heart
aches for you. How can Lysander keep you on one hand and play the field on the other?”
Evelyn clasped Thalassa’s arm. Her face etched with concern.
Evelyn had once worried about Thalassa’s marriage prospects and later fretted over her

being at a disadvantage by Lysander’s side. She tried everything to get Lysander to marry
her.
But despite her best efforts, nothing convinced Lysander to make Thalassa his wife.

She was frustrated but felt helpless. Now, witnessing the extent of Lysander’s infidelity,
her heart bled for Thalassa.
But what could they do? They were just commoners, utterly powerless against a man like
Lysander who had the world at his fingertips.
Thalassa’s grip on the teapot tightened. Her expression was composed but her breathing
was ragged.
An inexplicable, searing pain surged through her as she pondered whether Lysander had
indeed been with Susan.
She had assumed that Lysander knew about the drugged wine, that he had played along
because he had his own way of dealing with it.
She had believed that he truly disdained Susan.
Even after Thalassa left the hotel, she had hoped he would restrain himself.
Yet, it seemed Susan had gotten her way after all.
Given Lysander’s personality and power, if he hadn’t allowed Susan, who could have truly
gotten close to him?
