Chapter 706
On the phone, things were just too murky to explain, so Marguerite dropped Abbey a line, saying she was
heading over to the police station to see her.
She arrived in no time, eager to spill everything about Yuna's recent odd behavior and her own suspicions.
Abbey lifted her eyelids, showing a face full of disbelief. Then, she rubbed her chin thoughtfully, her gaze
sharpening as she pondered.
"Ms. Lockwood, you mean to tellPenelope's death has something to do with Yuna?"
Marguerite's throat was dry as she nodded, but Abbey's expression was somewhat amused, as if she doubted
Marguerite's story. She quickly had a colleague pour her a glass of water, but Marguerite didn't drink it.
"Ms. Abbey, if Yuna hasn't done anything wrong, why would she be so terrified of Penelope after having these
hallucinations? Penelope was her mother, for heaven's sake!"

Abbey placed a hand on Marguerite's shoulder, explaining methodically:
"Strictly speaking, Yuna having hallucinations is likely a psychological issue and doesn't necessarily link her to
Penelope's death."
Marguerite was beside herself with worry. She had thought the sbefore, but Yuna's behavior was growing
increasingly bizarre. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would never have harbored such suspicions. But
she couldn't just act out Yuna's behavior in front of Ms. Abbey. That would be crazy, right? Her frustration only
grew.
After scontemplation, Abbey decided to share sdetails of the case with Marguerite, hoping to alleviate
her concerns.
"On the day of the incident, we asked the Fitzgerald family why Penelope was out in the countryside. Hackett
said she was dealing with the aftermath of a factory fire. Then we checked the surveillance footage and indeed
saw her car near the factory. But at that time, Yuna wasn't at the factory."
A factory in the countryside? Marguerite's drinking paused, and she nearly choked in realization.
"The countryside hospital!" she blurted out, leaving Abbey puzzled. Marguerite quickly added, "Did you check
the hospital's surveillance?"
"The countryside hospital? That wasn't within the scope of the incident."
Marguerite stared at her, dumbfounded. "The night of the fire, Yuna was burned and admitted to the countryside
hospital. The next day, Penelope had a car accident on a mountain road nearby! How can that not be within
scope? The two places are close!"
"We did know Yuna was hospitalized; we even went to the hospital to investigate. But the nurses and the doctors
all confirmed that Yuna was in the hospital when Penelope had her accident. So, we didn't check the
surveillance."
"Is it too late to check now?"
"| can't guarantee that because most surveillance is only stored for 15 days, and it's been longer than that since
Penelope's accident."

"Ms. Abbey, please, I'm begging you, better safe than sorry! Can you check it again, please?"
Abbey looked troubled. Police investigations never rely on one-sided stories to make decisions. She didn't know if
Marguerite's claims were correct. And without sufficient evidence to support Marguerite's theory, they couldn't
just bring Yuna in for questioning.
"Marguerite, do you have any evidence to support your guess?"
"That's just it, | don't! That's why | cto you!"
Abbey was momentarily at a loss for words. This made things difficult.
"Ms. Abbey, please, I'm begging you, check again! Penelope meant the world to me!"
Marguerite's eyes shimmered with sincerity and urgency. Abbey had seen many families seeking justice for their
loved ones, but there was something about Marguerite's earnestness that touched her. With a sigh, she seemed
to have made up her mind. Leaning closer, so only Marguerite could hear, Abbey whispered:
"Marguerite, without any evidence, bringing Yuna in doesn't follow procedure. But | can make a personal visit to
the hospital."
