Chapter 1145
“Hasn’t he gotten himself into enough scrapes?” Angelina said with a sigh. She knew him better than
anyone else.
“I have a plan to test whether their feelings are genuine. You go ahead and mingle with the guests. I’ll
take care of things in the kitchen,” Beatrice suddenly had a flash of inspiration. She gently pushed
Angelina’s arm, assuring her with a nod.
“Do you really have a way?” Angelina couldn’t quite believe it.
“Just trust me and go. The meal will be ready soon,” Beatrice said with a hint of mystery in
her voice.
Angelina could just leave the kitchen.
About forty minutes later, the dining table was laden with an array of delectable dishes, with a focus on
seafood.
Hertha was summoned to sit at the table with Alaric by her side, which was a picture of a young couple
meeting the family.
Beatrice was the epitome of warmth and politeness as she served Hertha, saying, “Hertha, you must

Hertha gratefully accepted the servings Beatrice offered her, along with a small bowl of soup, and said
politely, “That’s very kind of you, Mr. and Mrs. Falconer.”
Beatrice nodded affectionately, then ladled another bowl of soup for Alaric.
For Hertha, it was a comforting bowl of chicken soup, and for Alaric, it was a tangy seafood bisque.
“Hertha enjoys seafood, so we’ll swap.” Alaric, wincing at the fishy smell, was about to swap bowls.
But before he could act, Beatrice interjected sternly, “I made that especially for it up. No swapping.”
you. Drink
Alaric’s hand, poised to exchange the bowls, froze at his grandmother’s unexpected
severity.
Hertha interpreted this as Beatrice’s special love for Alaric; the soup must be nutritious, a health
booster meant just for him. To waste it would be a shame.
She quickly laughed it off, “Go on, drink it. That’s your grandma’s love in a bowl. I’ve got my own soup
right here.”
“Yes, Hertha is such a considerate girl,” Beatrice said, her smile returning.
Not wanting to make a fuss over soup, Alaric downed the seafood bisque.

Watching him finish, Beatrice encouraged Hertha, “Now you, dear. We whipped this up just for you.”
Hertha nodded and complied with Grandma’s kindness, sipping the soup.
After enjoying more of the meal, as the evening wore on, Hertha began to feel a bit off. Her body
seemed to grow increasingly hot with sweat drenched her back. It was just too hot there.
“I should head back and take a shower to cool down a bit,” she thought.
Announcing her departure, she said, “It’s getting late. I should be going. I’ll take my leave now, Mr. and
Mrs. Falconer.”
Beatrice, surprised, said, “Hertha, you’re sweating so much. Is it too hot? Why don’t you rest here? I’ll

well with the cold, so we keep the living room warm. Look at you, you’re sweating bullets!”
“Oh, I couldn’t possibly impose…” Hertha demurred.
“Nonsense, it’s no trouble at all. It’s not like we’re asking you to bunk with Alaric,” Beatrice said with a
chuckle, signaling a maid to ready the room.
Hertha found herself at a loss for words to refuse.
Alaric tugged at his tie, feeling the heat as well. His body was uncomfortably warm. “The living room is
indeed too warm. I’ll go up to my room for a shower. Grandma, please look after Hertha for me.”
“Of course, go on. I’ll take good care of her,” Beatrice said, her smile tender and grandmotherly.
The maid arrived and announced the guest room was prepared.
“Hertha, let me show you to your room. Have a nice shower and get some rest,” Beatrice suggested.
Feeling the need for a cooling shower more than ever, Hertha could only follow Beatrice out of the
living room.
