She'd been busy lately, but Heather never stopped digging into Jacob’s background.

She'd once thought Tyler was Jacob's father, but privately asking Tyler confirmed otherwise.

Her investigation revealed Katherine hadn't dated anyone abroad-her Instagram showed a quiet life, no

children...

Jacob wasn’t Katherine's son at all!

Since discovering this, Heather had people searching for Jacob’s birth mother, convinced the boy bore an

uncanny resemblance to Geoffrey.

He might very well be Geoffrey's illegitimate child.

Heather chased quite a distance but saw no sign of Jacob, so she thought she was mistaken and returned to the

car.

Nearby, Jacob let out a sigh of relief.

Why was Heather here?

“Uncle Justin, let's head back quick.”

Realizing Heather's presence likely meant trouble for that scumbag father or his mom, he urged immediately.

“Alright.”

Back home.

Seeing the whole family still there, Jacob finally relaxed.

He went to Zoe and asked the caregivers for a long tbefore learning that Heather had come, apparently to

take that deadbeat dad back, but he refused.

Maureen saw that Jacob had also returned. Thinking of Ethan receiving treatment alone at the hospital, she

decided-tomorrow being New Year's Day-he couldn't stay there.

She knocked on Geoffrey's door and entered.

Maureen paused. “Wayne must have told you. | have another child named Ethan. I'm bringing him htonight.

Watch your mouth.

He’s not well.”

This was a notice, not a request for approval.

After informing him, Maureen left for the hospital to pick up Ethan.

Unlike Jacob, Ethan was an ordinary four-year-old. She planned to soften the truth.

At the hospital, she explained: “Ethan, we're taking in that Mr. Geoffrey. He's pitiful-blind, sick, with no one to

care for him.”

Ethan played along with his mommy's little act: “Mommy, | get it.

Mr. Geoffrey must be an orphan.”

Maureen choked up.

Geoffrey had so many parents, siblings, and cousins she couldn't even keep track. How could he be an orphan?

But to fool the child, she played along: “Yeah, that’s right. He's so pitiful, Mommy had to take him in.”

“And he’s a weird uncle. Might say all sorts of strange stuff. Don’t believe a word, Ethan.”

Maureen kept coaxing.

Ethan gave an Oscar-worthy performance, big eyes brimming with trust as he nodded: “Okay, Mommy! | won't

believe him!”

Meeting those innocent eyes, guilt pricked her. She shouldn't lie like this.

But what choice did she have?

In her mind, Ethan took after her - acting just like any normal kid.

While Jacob inherited Geoffrey’s brains. His memory and IQ? Even adults felt outmatched sometimes.

Jacob knew Geoffrey was his dad. But Ethan still didn’t...

Maureen would wait till he was older to tell him.

They reached home.

Ethan burst in like a sunshine bomb, chirping “Brother! Grandma! Uncle!” nonstop.

Spotting Geoffrey, he beamed: “Uncle Geoffrey! Missed you so much!”

If Geoffrey hadn't regained smemories, he might've been fooled by that innocent act.

“What do you mean?”

Geoffrey asked.

Ethan choked, then pouted: “I miss you so, so much! Like how | need the bathroom every single day!”

Geoffrey instantly recalled being drenched head to toe by the kid before.

Maureen setting the table paused. Something felt off about Ethan’s words.

Jacob stopped typing. He realized someone besides Grandma Yun could match their scumbag dad.

Never knew Ethan had this in him. What a killer analogy.

“Alright, dinner’s ready. Go wash up.”

“Okay!”

Ethan replied first, then turned to Geoffrey. “Uncle Alex, need help washing your hands?

I'm super thorough.”

“No.”

“Don’t be shy. | know you're an orphan dumped by your parents. Nobody taught you to wash hands when you

were little. | can show you.”

An orphan abandoned by his parents?

Geoffrey's expression darkened. Maureen's violent cough beside him screamed “play along“.

He strode over with a dark expression, letting Ethan demonstrate handwashing.

Ethan curiously eyed his father’s slender hands, unexpectedly scarred.

Chapter 276

Hasn’t the scumbag dad always lived in luxury?

How could he have sears?

“Uncle Alex, you must've suffered a lot with so many scars on your hands.”

Sears”

Maureen overheard this nearby and glanced over, noticing Geoffrey's handshands did indeed bear

numerous faded scars.

She clearly remembered his hands being flawless before.

“Got cut on glass carlier.”

Geoffrey replied flatly.

He didn’t tell Ethan how these scars cfrom punching the glass repeatedly when Maureen got trapped in the

car by Andrea's ex-boyfriend, or from pulling her out through the shattered window.

“Poor you.”

Ethan's face brimmed with sympathy.

He patted his little chest: “Don’t worry, Mommy and | are kind souls. When you're old and can’t support yourself,

we'll help send you to a nursing home.”

“You better work hard now to save up for that nursing home.”
