Chapter 27
“So, Simon and Beth are with Calen, while you three are with me” Izzy looked at the three people inside the
boardroom: Anna, her secretary, Sherry and Nil who are both from Research Department. These three would
assist her with her presentation.
“And | have sgood and bad news,” Izzy said, smiling. “Which one do you want first?”
Sherry quickly raised her hand. Izzy smiled at the enthusiastic new hire. “Isn’t this going to be a problem? |
mean... Mr. Simon and Miss Beth are the top performers. So... | mean... | know you're excellent at your job, but |
don’t think we might be as good as those two.” Sherry glanced at Nil. “After all, both of us were just hired this
year.”
“I know,” Izzy smiled. “But that has certain advantages-like the fact that you two are easier to train.” Izzy knew
Calen wanted the best, and Beth and Simon were his perfect candidates. This left her with new hires, people who
only started at the company six months ago. “Now, | don’t want to focus on what you two don’t have. You're here
to help Anna and me. Anna has been withsince | started at the company. She can be trusted and knows me
very well. So... if you have questions, feel free to ask her.”
izzy leaned back in her chair, her posture languid. “Now... Anna, if you would, hand them the tasks they need to
do.”
Anna complied.
“As you can see, you each have different tasks. Sherry, you'll focus on the financial projections. These are the
data | managed to collect, but they need to be polished. And Nil, you'll be in charge of the architectural design
approvals. Macau has strict guidelines, and | need you to do sresearch on this. | don’t want to make
mistakes in the presentation.”
The two nodded, so Izzy continued. “I'm sure Mr. Weiss will focus on the casino and profits. He doesn’t care much
about local laws. So, let's focus on that. My plan is to have an even earlier opening date to highlight the
efficiency of our project plan.” Izzy clapped her hands. “That's it. You have until Tuesday to finish your tasks. The
presentation will be on Friday.” She said, “You may leave now.”
Izzy got up, grabbed her laptop, and immediately left the boardroom. However, on her way out, she saw Monica

“Do you need something?” Izzy asked.
“Well...” For sreason, Monica had large panda eyes, even enhanced by makeup. She looked like she hadn't
slept in a week. “I just need to talk.”
1zzy looked around and found the others outside the boardroom, pretending not to listen or see them. However,
it was pretty obvious that they were waiting for Izzy to react. “I have a presentation deadline, so if you want to
talk, talk now.”
“Izzy, this...” Monica looked around. “I'm sorry about yesterday. | didn’t mean to do it.”
“What do you mean?” Izzy frowned, acting as if she didn’t understand what Monica was talking about.
“I mean... Mr. Weiss is my boss, so... my loyalty...”
Izzy snorted. “I'm going to my office. Please stop discussing personal matters in the office.” Izzy didn’t spare
Monica another glance as she turned on her heel and walked toward her office. She could feel her colleagues’
eyes on her as she strode away, her expression unreadable. Behind her, she heard Monica's faint sniffles turn
into muffled sobs.
“Oh my god, Monica... are you okay?” One of the women from HR rushed over, concern plastered on her face.
Another coworker, Paul, quickly pulled a chair over, gesturing for her to sit down.
Ménica sank into the chair, dabbing at her eyes with a tissue. She let out a shaky sigh, looking around at the
small crowd that had gathered.

Chapter 27
“Monica, what happened?” asked Claire, one of the younger interns. She glanced from Monica to the hallway
where Izzy had disappeared. “Did something happen between you and Miss Roi?”
Monica nodded slowly, her eyes wide and watery, glancing down as if gathering her thoughts. “I... | really didn’t
mean for any of this to happen. It’s all just... so complicated.” She took a deep breath, wiping her eyes again.
Paul leaned forward, his curiosity evident. “What do you mean? Did you two have a falling out?”
Monica hesitated, glancing at her lap. “I... | was only trying to do the right thing. Mr. Weiss is my boss, and,
well... loyalty is important, isn't it?” She looked up, feigning a conflicted expression. “I just... | had to tell him. |
thought, you know if I didn’t... maybe... maybe things would be worse for everyone involved.”
One of the older employees, Carol, crossed her arms, clearly intrigued. “Tell him what, exactly?”
Monica shook her head, biting her lip as if unsure whether to share more. “I can’t really say much... but... it's
just... I thought Izzy's decisions might put the company in a risky position. | know she’s brilliant, but she
sometimes... she just doesn’t always think things through.”
The crowd exchanged glances, their curiosity growing.
“So... you were worried about the project? And that’s why you told Mr. Weiss?” Paul asked, piecing together her
carefully dropped hints.
Monica nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “I was just... | was so afraid that if something went wrong, Mr.
Weiss would... well, he'd hold it against me, too. | don’t want anyone to lose their job, especially Izzy. She's my
cousin, after all. But... | had to think about the bigger picture.”
Claire frowned, looking conflicted. “But isn’t Izzy in charge of this project? Doesn't she know what she’s doing?”
Monica sighed, her shoulders sagging. “Yes, but... | just worried she was taking too many risks. And with Mr.
Weiss... he’s very strict. | didn’t want to put my own job in jeopardy, you know? So | thought... maybe if he knew,
he could... steer things in the right direction.”
The others exchanged glances, a silent understanding passing between them. Monica’s dilemma was something
anyone here could relate to-who wouldn't prioritize their job, especially one with such generous perks? They cast
cautious looks toward Izzy's office, wondering what she might have said or done that could potentially put the
company at risk.
It didn’t take long for murmurs to start circulating. After all, wasn’t it reasonable for Monica to show loyalty to her
boss? Most people would understand her position.

Before long, rumors spread across the floor. Conversations turned to speculation about what had really
happened between Izzy and Monica, painting Izzy as someone who was treating her cousin unfairly-all because
Monica had shared something crucial with her boss.
“Miss Rossi, are you really letting those rumors spread?” Anna asked, her eyes full of worry as she served Izzy
her tea. “I
they now see you as a bully. If Mr. Weiss hears this...”
mean...
Izzy shook her head. “Let them bark,” she said, taking a sip of her tea. “The noisier it is, the better.”
Anna nodded, though the worried look on her face didn’t disappear. “Then... here are the things you asked for.
Although, I'm curious about something...”
“Hm?” 1zzy looked at the files Anna handed her. Izzy knew she could trust Anna, and the two had been through
many projects together in the past.
“The numbers you gave Miss Sherry were exaggerated. Do you perhaps wantto update her with the new
numbers?” Izzy shook her head. “No need. You don’t need to give them updates,” she smiled. “I can handle it.”

“All right,” Anna nodded. “Then is there anything else you wantto do over the weekend?”
“No. Just-" Izzy leaned back. “Just remember, this conversation didn’t happen.” She gave her secretary a
knowing look.
Anna immediately nodded, understanding what she meant. “I understand. Then... have a good weekend, Miss
Rossi.”
“I will...” 1zzy nodded. She thought of Liam's silly face and couldn't help but smile. “You too, Anna.”
