Chapter 526

"Are you seriously not lying to me?" Hector narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Daniel.

"I swear I'm not!" Daniel insisted, sounding completely certain. "Con, Hector, we've known each other for

years. When have | ever lied to you?"

Daniel might have a reputation for being a bit of a flirt and never really settling down, but lying just wasn't in his

nature.

Hector shot Daniel a look. "Then it must be Rebecca who's lying to you! Daniel, you're not getting any younger,

man. You can't just keep falling head over heels for every pretty face that comes your way. Look at her-she's so

jittery she doesn't even dare touch the car, and you honestly think she can race? Wake up, buddy! Don't let her

fool you!"

Honestly, Hector had a point.

But Daniel wasn't listening at all. Not right now.

He grabbed Hector's arm, desperate. "No, you've got it wrong! Rebecca hasn't lied to you, not once! If anyone's

lying, it's Sherman!”

Rebecca was far too kindhearted to deceive anyone. She just wasn't the type.

Hector turned his gaze to Rebecca, his tone blunt and unfiltered. "Look, | don't want you to take this the wrong

way, but that woman? She doesn't seem genuine to me. She's got that whole innocent act going, all wide-eyed

and trembling, pretending she doesn't know a thing about racing. Frankly, it makessick."

He and Daniel were opposites in this regard.

Daniel always had a soft spot for damsels in distress. Hector? Not so much.

If Daniel was the caring, sensitive type, Hector was the straight-shooting, no- nonsense guy who had no patience

for girls who burst into tears at the drop of a hat.

After a beat, Hector added, "And one more thing-Sherman's done nothing but look out for you. Of all people, you

shouldn't be accusing him of lying."

Maybe it was that stretch of tthey'd spent together in the Middle East, risking their necks side by side, that

made Sherman so loyal to Daniel.

Back when the Robinson Group was teetering on the edge of collapse, it was Sherman who invested and saved

them from going under.

Without Sherman, there wouldn't even be a Robinson Group today.

Daniel had no reason to doubt Sherman's loyalty.

But Daniel just shook his head, frustrated. "But Sherman really did lie to you! And Rebecca isn't some

manipulative actress-she's one of the kindest people I've ever met! There's no one in this world more genuine

than her, | swear it!"

Hector patted Daniel's hand, giving him a look that was equal parts pity and exasperation. “Now | finally

understand why Sherman calls you gullible."

How could Daniel not see something so obvious? It really was a bit foolish.

Honestly, Sherman must have the patience of a saint to put up with him for this long. If it weren't for their shared

history in the Middle East, Sherman probably would've cut him off ages ago.

Daniel had no idea how lucky he was.

"Alright, I'm going to find Sherman. | don't have tfor this," Hector said, turning to leave with Chase.

Daniel stood there, watching Hector's retreating figure and letting out a heavy sigh.

Why did no one believe Rebecca? The feeling of being misunderstood was unbearable.

He turned back to Rebecca, guilt etched on his face. "Rebecca, I'm so sorry..."

He'd never imagined things would turn out like this.

Rebecca sniffed, her eyes rimmed with red, but she managed a shaky smile. It's alright, Daniel. As long as you

still believe in me, that's O enough."

Seeing her like this, Daniel had to fight the urge to pull her into his arms. But he couldn't. Not now.

Even if Sherman was upset with Rebecca at the moment, Daniel believed these misunderstandings would be

cleared up eventually.

He had to keep his distance-for now.

Daniel looked at Rebecca, his voice brimming with emotion. "Rebecca, | promise,

no matter what happens, I'll always stand by you."

Rebecca nodded, equally moved. "Thank you."

She never expected Hector to doubt her, but now, with Daniel's unwavering support, she realized she had to

hold on to him.

Daniel was her only ally left-her stepping stone. She needed to make the most of it.

With that thought, Rebecca walked over and wrapped her arms around Daniel.

He froze, feeling his heart race in his chest.

Much as he hated to admit it, he really was falling for her.

"Don't worry, Rebecca," he whispered. "I'll find a way to get M Morris out and restore the

o to its former glory.get
