Sylvia strained to lift her head, her eyes locked on his. “Kiss me,” she pleaded softly. “Please?”

Gabriel looked down, his gaze falling on her soft yet determined eyes. The darkness in his own deepened.

Sylvia continued to press small kisses against his jaw, her warm lips moving against his skin. Her shallow breaths, the moist touch,

and her shimmering eyes were like hooks, pulling at him, desperate for a response.

Like the storm raging outside, her touch seemed to quell the fire of his anger.

He shot a murderous glare at the masked man, then lowered his head and captured her lips with his.

Sylvia immediately responded, drawing him in.

In the distance, she could hear low, mocking laughter, but she shut it out. It was as if they were alone in the deep mountains,

kissing without a care in the world. Her eyes were half-closed, seeing only Gabriel, her ears hearing only the sound of raindrops

falling from the eaves and trees.

She was doing everything she could to seduce him, to be more alluring and tender than ever before. A soft moan escaped her

throat, a sound only he could hear, like the spellbinding bloom of a spider lily, instantly captivating his soul.

After a long moment, Sylvia gently bit his lip. “Promise me,” she murmured against his mouth, “the second you get a chance, you

run. Don’t worry about me.”

Gabriel's eyes shot open.

He felt the ropes around him go slack. In one fluid motion, Sylvia pulled the cord free, slipped from his embrace, and launched

herself toward the masked man.

The man and his cronies were a beat too slow. By the tthey moved to intercept her, she was already in the center of the room.

Crack!

With a sharp snap, Sylvia swung the rope in her hand, catching a charging mercenary across the neck and sending him flying.

Without pausing, she used the rope as a whip to defend herself, lashing out at another man while simultaneously kicking him away.

Her eyes, sharp as ice, were fixed on her target.

“Stop! Don’t move!”
