Chapter 431
"This place is really haunted," said Dominic seriously, lowering his voice like he was telling a ghost story around
a campfire. His eyes gleamed with tic flair as he continued, "I bet we'll start seeing all kinds of
supernatural things soon."
Vespera stared at him. Supernatural?
Dominic squished her cheeks and said, "Do you want to make a bet? A ghost is going to knock on our door any
second now."
"I don't believe..." responded Vespera.
Before she could finish speaking, the sound of knocking echoed through the
room.

A woman's voice sounded from outside. "Mr. Reid..."
The tone was light and eerie, wavering like a cry.
Vespera froze, fist still mid-air from almost hitting Dominic. A cold shiver ran down her spine. Without thinking,
she threw herself into his arms, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist.
What was that? Was it really a ghost?
Her cheek was pressed flat against his chest, breath caught in her throat. Her hands clutched at his shirt like a
lifeline. His heartbeat was calm while hers was racing.
"Mr. Reid, please help me..." The voice outside quivered with sobs now.
Vespera's neck prickled. She glanced up at Dominic and mouthed, "Who is that?"
Dominic smiled and mouthed back, "Who do you think?"
Then, it hit Vespera. She swallowed hard. She didn't believe in ghosts. She was rational and logical, which she
took pride in. At the stime, she was terrified of them.
Dominic leaned close, his lips brushing her ear as he whispered, "Should we go and help her? She sounds like
she's in trouble."
Vespera cursed, "Trouble? No way."
Vespera dragged Dominic away from the door. She staggered and collapsed onto the dark red couch at the foot
of the bed.
The knocking and shouting continued. The crying grew louder, frantic and desperate, until it reached a high
pitch, like the woman outside was on the verge of hysteria.
A long while later, the sounds outside the door stopped.
Vespera finally recovered from shock. Now that she thought about it, the voice sounded a lot like the wealthy
Jitanese woman.
But why would that woman chere, barely ten minutes after everyone had gone to their rooms, and knock on
their door?
Vespera exhaled slowly, but her vision started to blur. The room around her seemed to double and waver. She
pressed a hand to her forehead. When she finally looked around again, the unsettling details cinto sharp
focus.
The entire room was bathed in dim red light. Combined with the heavy Elouber- style furnishings, it gave off an
eerie vibe. There was a unique scent in the air, too. It wasn't floral or woody. It was an indescribable scent.
Vespera frowned. Then, Dominic's voice cfrom beside her. He asked, "Aren't you curious why she came
here, of all places?"
Sitting next to her, Dominic casually rested his arm on her shoulder. His breath was warm against her cheek.
A second later, Vespera turned her head. Under the red glow, Dominic's face had changed somehow. He, who
usually looked cold and aloof, now seemed like he was entering an international model competition.
He would definitely be the champion. After all, he looked unreal and seductive.
