Chapter 818

Marguerite affectionately ruffled Margot's hair as the waiter swiftly cleared away the previous dishes, politely

asking Marguerite if she'd like to order anything else.

Margot beamed, her little face lighting up. "Pretty lady, | want chicken wings! Chicken wings, chicken wings!" she

chirped, pointing mischievously at Marguerite. "She's paying!"

The waiter and Marguerite chuckled, but Silas gently tapped Margot on the nose, reminding her, "Margot, it's not

polite to let a lady pay."

The little one blinked her big eyes innocently. "But this is Ms. Marguerite's restaurant, Daddy! She won't let you

pay!”

Her eyes crinkled into a smile as she quickly turned her face back to Marguerite. "Ms. Marguerite, our names

both have 'Marg' in them. Isn't that funny?"

Marguerite looked at the little girl's chubby, cherubic face, feeling her heart melt.

With a playful tweak of her chin, Marguerite laughed, "Yes, what a coincidence. Who named you?"

"No one, | named myself!" Margot declared with the candidness only kids possess, making Marguerite laugh

again.

Who ever heard of a child naming themselves at birth? But then again, whose child was she?

Violet was only twenty-one now, barely seventeen three years ago. It couldn't be her.

Silas had never mentioned Margot's mother, leaving Marguerite a bit puzzled.

Soon, a plate of chicken wings was set in front of the eager little girl, complete with a variety like honey

barbecue and spicy buffalo, though she always favored the honey barbecue.

The sticky orange sauce turned her face into a cute, messy little masterpiece.

Marguerite gently patted her head. "You really like honey barbecue wings, don't you?"

Margot nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, yes, | love them! Do you like them too, Ms. Marguerite?"

Marguerite smiled softly but didn't reply.

She wasn't particularly fond of wings, but Teresa loved them. There was always a plate of wings at every meal,

and she never seemed to tire of them, enjoying every bite with a contentment that was infectious.

Just like Margot right now.

The memory made Marguerite's heart ache a little as she glanced across the table at Silas.

He wore a mask, but not the typical medical kind. It was more like the stylish ones celebrities often wore,

perfectly fitting the contours of his face.

Ignoring the burn scars on his skin, with the mask on, he looked quite handsome. His eyes, though, were what

drew Marguerite in-they were filled with stories, deep and mysterious, reminiscent of a brooding prince straight

out of a fairytale. Perhaps realizing his gaze was too intense, Silas looked away, explaining plainly, "Margot can

be a bit chatty and forward. Don't mind her."

How could she hold anything against a child?

Marguerite shook her head, her tone gently distant. "I don't mind. She's adorable." Hearing the praise, Margot

grinned broadly.

But she felt Marguerite was too distant with her dad! She didn't seem to notice his warmth at all!

Margot knew her dad liked Marguerite, so she decided it was tto give him a little push.

With a mischievous gleam in her eyes, she turned and cupped Marguerite's face, whispering in a voice only they

could hear.

"Ms. Marguerite, would you cpickup from preschool for lunch tomorrow?

| have something really important to tell you!"

Marguerite watched the little girl quietly, not committing right away.

What important things could a child have to say?

Maybe she just didn't want to go to school?

"What do you want to tell me?" Marguerite whispered back.

Margot widened her eyes, placing a finger over her lips with a playful wink. "I'll tell you tomorrow. It's our little

secret!"

Preschool had a break at noon, and a quick lunch wouldn't take too long.

Thinking this over, Marguerite nodded, playfully pinching the girl's chubby cheeks. "Deal!"
