Jeffrey was silent for a moment before answering, “Give it five more days. If there's still no substantial progress,

then call her in.”

Stanley wanted to say, “There's really no need.” He doubted he’d make any breakthroughs, not even in a

month.

He guessed, “Could Amelia be from sbig family? Her background is spotless; she can’t be just from an

ordinary family.”

“Just keep investigating,” Jeffrey said. He wasn’t the type to jump to any conclusions without concrete progress.

Stanley ended the call, taking the cue without another word.

Jeffrey sat in his office and replayed the surveillance recording one more time. He was certain Amelia wasn't

simple, yet for all the great families he searched, there was no trace of the Jensen family. Thinking of this, he

dialed Timothy's number.

When Timothy saw it was Jeffrey calling, he told Rebecca and lan he had to step out to take a call, then went

outside. He called out, “Mr. Hanson.”

“Did that person from last tcback to the hospital?” Jeffrey asked.

Timothy replied, “He did. Just like before, he sat in the room for about half an hour before leaving. | only heard

about it afterward from the nurses.”

Jeffrey frowned. He moved his mouse, clicked a few times to open up the surveillance footage, and locked his

gaze on the man shown on the screen.

He felt that the man looked familiar, but he couldn't say where he had seen him before or who he resembled.

Perhaps because Jeffrey had been silent for too long, Timothy called out, “Mr. Hanson?”

Jeffrey said, “From now on, make sure that room is tightly guarded. Anyone going in, except Rebecca, has to be

logged. If that man shows up again, callright away.”

“Yes, sir,” Timothy replied.

Jeffrey hummed in acknowledgment and hung up.

Timothy sent a message in the group chat to pass along the instructions, and once he was done, he returned to

the ward.

Rebecca was holding Amelia's hand and chatting with her. When she saw Timothy cin, she asked, “Has my

mom's health data improved significantly lately?”

“It has,” Timothy replied,

Rebecca's eyes widened in surprise. She exclaimed, “Really?”

Timothy glanced at the bed with gentle eyes. He couldn't help but feel happy for her. He said, “The change isn’t

huge, but compared to before, it's definitely better. Honestly, | think it's your daily chats and company that are

starting to work.”

Rebecca asked, “Does that mean she might wake up soon?”

“Could be,” Timothy answered, careful not to promise anything for sure.

Still, that one line was enough to fill Rebecca with hope.

After Timothy left, Rebecca stayed by Amelia's side, chatting away. She talked about Samuel's latest adventures,

her own life and work, and even mentioned May.

Watching Rebecca sit there, trying so hard to wake Amelia, lan felt a pang of regret. He thought, ‘If only | had

studied medicine, maybe | could've helped her more."

He walked over and gently patted her shoulder. He said, “Don’t worry too much. Who knows? Maybe your mom

will wake up tomorrow, and you can tell her everything you want.”

Rebecca nodded.

Just as Jeffrey pulled up the surveillance feed to check on Amelia, this moment played out before his eyes. His

eyes locked onto lan’s hand resting on Rebecca's slender shoulder, and the entire atmosphere around him

turned frosty in an instant.

He grabbed his phone and dialed Henry's number.

lan had no idea danger was heading his way. He was casually chatting with Rebecca, saying whatever it took just

to cheer her up and help her relax.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed.

lan took his phone out of his pocket. When he saw the caller ID, his expression shifted almost imperceptibly.

Without a second thought, he declined the call.

“Who was it?” Rebecca asked.

“Just one of those sales calls,” lan replied offhandedly.

Rebecca stared at him, her eyes saying, “Seriously?”

Jan sounded totally believable. He said, “I bought something online a while ago, and ever since then, my phone’s

been spammed nonstop. Blocking them doesn’t even work.”

Rebecca just shrugged and believed him.

But then, just a second later, his phone buzzed again. This time, instead of a call, it was a text notification.

The message was from Henry. He texted: [You've got thirty minutes. If you're not hby then, I'm teaming up

with Jeffrey.]

lan just stared at his phone, utterly speechless.

Catching the seriousness on his face, Rebecca said, “If you need to go take care of something, don’t worry about

me. I'm good here.”

lan said, “It's a text from my dad. He wantsto go hfor another matchmaking session. It's driving me

crazy.”

Rebecca asked, “Did you two make up or something?”

“Not in a million years,” lan replied with clear annoyance, not even trying to hide how much he disliked talking

about Henry. He said, “Forget him. He can do whatever he wants; | couldn't care less.”

Rebecca didn’t try to persuade lan. She and Jessica only knew the basics about what went down between lan

and Henry.

But both of them agreed-there had to be something more lan was keeping from them, or else he wouldn't have

been so cold toward Henry all these years. They never pried, knowing everyone had stuff they'd rather keep to

themselves.

They were friends, and that meant respecting each other-no questions asked.

Rebecca tucked Amelia in and said, “Con. Dinner’s ontonight.”

“Let's go,” lan said, not giving a second thought to the call or the text.

Jeffrey could only watch as the two walked out together, already set on having dinner. His gaze grew even colder

as he called Gregory over and ordered, “Whatever it takes, mess up Rebecca and lan’s dinner. Any losses-pay

the restaurant owner ten times over.”

“Got it,” Gregory said.

Half an hour later, Rebecca had picked up sfresh ingredients and invited lan over to her place.

Rebecca thought, ‘Given my current financial situation, if | took lan out for a fancy meal, he'd probably end up

paying for it anyway. And if it were just saverage restaurant, | might as well just cook for him myself.

The bodyguard tailing them reported the change of plans to Gregory.

After a moment of hesitation, Gregory steeled himself and headed to Jeffrey's office.

Gregory walked in but didn’t say anything right off the bat. He just hovered in front of Jeffrey's desk, looking like

he was struggling to get something out.

“What's wrong?” Jeffrey asked, not even glancing up from the stack of files in front of him.

“Ms. Jensen and Mr. Yeats are eating somewhere our guys can’t actually mess things up, Gregory said, keeping

his voice steady though he was sweating bullets inside.

Jeffrey thought of it for a moment and then asked, “Are they eating at Rebecca's place?”

“Yeah,” Gregory said, feeling that familiar mix of relief and awe-it happened every time. He'd lost count of how

many times he'd felt lucky to have a boss this sharp.

With Jeffrey around, he barely had to say anything before the guy just read his mind.

Jeffrey's fingers stilled over the keyboard, and an intimidating chill instantly swept through the room. Without

another word, he stood up, grabbed his suit jacket, and walked out of the office.
