Chapter 14:

Ward 2306 was where Belinda was staying.

Kristopher’s brow furrowed as he pressed the elevator’s ‘close door’ button, his face devoid of any expression.

Before heading there, he had Marc pull up Belinda’s medical records. Other than a recent surgery for a

miscarriage due to malnutrition, her health record was clean.

Could she actually be vomiting blood?

Kristopher sneered, certain that Belinda had been faking it again.

When Belinda awoke, it was already dusk.

“Honey, you must have had a pleasant dream, so you refuse to wake up,” Madisyn remarked as she unpacked

the food and set it before her. She sighed and uttered, “Belinda, since you're already here, why not go for a

comprehensive check-up?”

She handed Belinda a fork. “I've been looking after you all week, yet it seems like you're deteriorating. Could

there be any complications from the abortion?”

Belinda fought back her discomfort and met her gaze. “What could possibly be wrong with me? I just had a bad

night's sleep, and that’s it.”

She glanced down, her brow furrowed slightly as she nibbled on her food. “When | returned from Rozand to

Nawrin last night, | cto this hospital immediately and already completed my examinations. I'm alright, and

there's no need to worry.”

Relieved by the news, Madisyn asked, “How did your discussion with Kristopher go today? Did he consent to the

divorce?”

Upon hearing the word “divorce,” Belinda’s frown deepened. “He refused.”

“Why won't he agree? You've already relinquished all your shared property,” Madisyn questioned as she slid a

straw into a cup of milk for Belinda. “Moreover, | saw him online today, shopping at the mall with Cathy. He

already has her now. Why is he hesitating to divorce you? Is he trying to keep his options open? That's utterly

despicable!” While speaking, she passed the cup of milk to Belinda. “What's your plan now that Kristopher is

stalling the divorce?”

Accepting the cup, Belinda responded, “I'll just disregard him and proceed with what | must do.” Her decision

was firm.

Regardless of Kristopher’s willingness, she resolved to end their marriage.

As she thought about this, she paused to take a sip of milk and glanced over at Madisyn. “Where did you end up

putting Fluffy and my bags?”

Madisyn bit her lip, hesitating before explaining, “I had originally thought about taking your stuff and Fluffy over

to my place. But after you mentioned you didn’t want to live with me, worried that the Cox family might drop by

and disturb us, | changed plans. So, | managed to get an apartment from a friend of mine. I've placed Fluffy and

your luggage there. It's a two-bedroom apartment with a living room. One bedroom is yours, and the other room

is set up as your office space. I've tidied it up. It’s neat and cozy. You'll find it much more comfortable than

staying in that large, empty house. And don’t worry about Kristopher. He won't find it anytsoon, so you'll get

your peace and quiet.”

“Thank you,” Belinda responded, her smile genuine as she felt a surge of gratitude. “What can | get you as a

thank-you?”

Madisyn thought for a moment. “How about we go for a drink after you try the new medicine and are out of the

hospital?”

A longing look crossed Madisyn’s face. “I still remember how we, along with Joyce, used to hit the bar regularly.

But then Joyce had her accident, and you got married. It's just not been the swithout anyone to go with. |

haven't been back since. It’s been three years.”

Seeing Madisyn looking disheartened, Belinda offered a comforting smile. “Alright, once I'm out of here, we'll

grab a drink together. Even though I can’t drink, | can still hang out with you and have fun.”

Madisyn brightened up instantly. “That sounds awesome! After spending three years with Kristopher, you

deserve a break. Lettake you out for sreal fun!”

Three days passed.

It was nine in the evening.

In the Cox Group CEO's office, after enduring a marathon international video conference, Kristopher leaned back

in his chair, his long fingers massaging his temples as he closed his eyes to recuperate.

“Mr. Cox.”

Marc entered, setting a box on the desk. “Your grandfather sent over spastries intended for Mrs. Cox. The

courier had also relayed a message from your grandfather, insisting that you and Mrs. Cox attend his eightieth

birthday celebration in three days. He really misses her.”

“Send them to her,” Kristopher murmured, his expression clouded with fatigue.

Marc paused, lowering his gaze. “I've been trying, but | can’t seem to reach her.”
