Tory shrugged but did not say anything else.
"Are you admiring the scenery?" | asked with a smile.
Perhaps it was because of the beautiful scenery, he did not seem as despicable as usual. | decided to stay and
chat with him a bit longer.
Tory grinned. "Have you ever stared up at a cruise ship in awe from a little wooden raft?"
| shook my head. "I'm afraid no one has ever done that. A wooden raft has no way of traveling long distances
across the ocean, and a luxury cruise ship can never be placed in a small lake. I'm afraid that they'l never have a
chance to meet."
"There's always that one-in-a-million possibility."
| shrugged. "Perhaps."

"I've seen it. At that moment, | thought to myself that if | were given the chance one day, | would turn my life
around. | would stand on the cruise ship and stare across the ocean."
Tory squinted at the vast expanse of the ocean. "I did it. | fulfilled my wish."
| downed the remainder of my wine, then spoke dryly, "But you're not as happy as you thought you'd be, right?"
Tory suddenly laughed, then looked atand said, "Are you mistaking reality for a TV show? The protagonist
works his ass off and when he finally reaches the top, he feels nothing but emptiness. How ridiculous. I've
achieved my dreams and I've reached my goals. Why would | feel empty inside? At the stime, those who
say that the rich also have troubles and envy the family, friendship, and love the poor have are all nonsense.
Only when you becrich and don't have money troubles can you choose to be with the person you like."
| did not refute his words. | stared at the city in the distance that was becoming smaller and smaller. | asked, "So,
what are you lamenting on?"
He narrowed his eyes. "I just wanted to find a topic to talk to you about. | heard that we have similar
experiences, so | couldn't help wanting to talk to you."
"Similar experiences? What are you talking about?"
| thought about it carefully. | did not think we had any similarities.
Tory leaned against the railing and said dryly, "Our experiences growing up, of course. When | was a child, I lived
with my mother. Her work was not decent, and even | got dragged into it. | was reprimanded for the mistakes
she made. People would naturally feel superior in front of those who were weaker. At the slightest mistake, they
would express their sense of superiority by hurting the weak. At that moment, | promised myself that if | ever
becone of the strong ones, | would hurt those who hurtand make them pay a hundredfold. Now, I've
succeeded in doing that."
| furrowed my brows. "Our experiences growing up are completely different. Not only was my childhood good,
but it was also pretty blissful. I'd say it was the most blissful tof my life. So I'm sorry, | can't find any
similarities between us."

| paused for a moment, then continued, " Moreover, | don't want to have any similarities with you. | don't want to
have to console you just because of the trauma you suffered in your childhood either."
Not only did my words not anger him, but Tory even responded with a smile. "I didn't want you to console me. |
just wanted to rant to someone whom | didn't hate that much. Now that I've ranted a little, | feel much better."
He was a complex person made up of contradictions. | truly had no way of understanding his thoughts.
| pursed my lips and decided not to chat with him any longer.
Just then, a pretty woman walked over with a glass of wine in her hand. She was staring at Tory the whole time,
her intentions unclear.
There were many beautiful ladies at the party, but Tory was not one to reject the ones who approached him.
A cynical man like Tory enjoyed being approached by beautiful women.
When the woman walked up to him, he wrapped his arm around her waist and whispered in her ear flirtatiously, ©
"Hey baby, are you bored on your own?"
