I slipped my hand in my pocket and pulled out the stone I had been carrying. I didn’t know
why I had been so determined to get it. Looking at it now, I had an ominous feeling that I
had set something in motion. Something I shouldn’t have.
But what’s done was done.
The protective barrier that had kept it hidden all these years couldn’t be re-established.
Not by me, anyway. And not within the ruins it was taken from.
Besides, we may need it in the coming events. There was power within the stone. A power
that had blessed and protected my pack for
generations. If I couldn’t use it to bring them back, I would use it to keep from losing
anything else.
I wrapped the smooth, iridescent stone in a velvet cloth, tucking it into a small chest.
