The Beta’s Regret

(Lord Shevek's Pov) How exactly was Rose and I supposed to explain that a child barely old enough to walk saved his father and mother from death? "You don't possibly mean Zion, do you?" I heard Eden ask.

Before I could say a word, Rose answered. Despite the small smile on her face, I could see the strange look she tried to hide, and I understood.

It was pretty difficult to easily overcthe experience we had with Zion.

It questioned all reasoning and we had no choice but to believe that the little hybrid boy was special, blessed by the moon goddess.

I felt a swell of pride along with fear for what great destiny awaited him.

Rose nodded "I meant every word I said. Zion saved you and Shevek." Eden frowned. It was obvious she was thinking that it didn't make any sense; not one word of what Rose just said made sense to either one of them "But how?" Eden asked. Rose continued.

"When you left the camp, we don't know how, but Zion had sensed it. At first, he refused to fall asleep, and then he began to cry.

Rose cocked her head to the side as she replayed the moment in her head just like I was doing.

"No matter how much we tried to make him stop, he refused. So we decided to check in on you. Maybe you could make him stop. But when we cin here with Zion and Lily..." "You were nowhere to be found," I finished Rose nodded in agreement. "That was when we knew that you had left the camp in secret without telling anyone." "No one knew where you were, even Beauty. We all thought Pison had done something to you; we were all worried." I caught a flash of guilt whip across Eden's face as she bowed her head slightly. "I shouldn't have left the camp without informing anyone. Anything could have happened, and nobody would have known where I was. I'm sorry." She finished softly. I felt my heart break a little.

"Zion was more upset."Rose continued, "He cried so much that everyone began to wake up. We all thought he was going to fall sick." I looked back at Zion, who gazed atwith a small frown on his lips as if he was upset about something.

The little boy was truly strange and acted beyond his years.

"We were still thinking about what to do when something happened." I said Eden looked atcuriously. "What happened?" I shared a look with Rose, as we silently contemplated how to say the next words.

"Zion shifted into his wolf." Rose announced suddenly Eden's eyes widened.

Eros went still and looked at us in disbelief. "What do you mean?" he asked I answered this t"It is still a mystery but Zion shifted into a small black wolf before we could do anything. Your mother still held him in her hands at the time." One moment, Zion was still in Rose's arms, the next, the pup had shifted into a small wolf with midnight black fur and golden eyes. We were amazed.

Rose was still talking "The moment Zion shifted into a wolf, he jumped out of my arms and started running towards the forest. It was so fast no one predicted it would happen your father and I went after him ον immediately." I shook his head quickly, as I replayed the moment when the chase happened in my head.

"He was too fast. For a pup, Zion ran like a full-grown wolf. I had never seen anything like that before now. It was beyond ordinary." I said.

Eros raised a brow in disbelief. He was finding it hard to believe what I said.

"How is it possible for Zion to have a wolf?" Eros questioned. "Isn't it too early for him to have one? He's just a pup." I thought the stoo.

Eden sighed, and Eros gave her a curious look noticed it before now too. The day I gave Zion his nknew he had a wolf because his eyes changed. But I had no idea he would shift so early." she said.

QUMS I nodded "That was exactly what we thought, but then it happened. Rose followedwith Lily in her arms while I chased Zion." I remembered how Zion kept getting out of my grasp, he was way too fast for me, but he always looked back to check if we were all coming behind him.

At first, I thought Zion was just checking to see if I was close to catching him, but soon I realized he was leading us somewhere.

"Finally, he stopped in front of the cave where you and Eros were." I said Rose continued. "Zion didn't take the front entrance. He took us round the cave and directed us to the back. Then he lifted his paws and touched a part of the cave..." she trailed off, and pursed her lips. "What happened?" Eros asked curiously.

I filled in "Zion had skind of power that he released, and that side of the cave exploded as soon as Zion touched it."

I shivered. That moment scared me.

For a moment I was so shocked that I almost peed in my pants. Zion gavea sharp glare that reflected his disapproval, but it couldn't be helped. It was just too much forto take in all at one. A child with strong elemental powers.

Rose cleared her throat, and drewaway from my thoughts as shem started, "it was almost as if Zion was afraid of nothing. He acted like he was way older." I chuckled. "Zion was the first to enter the cave, then Rose and I followed. It was cold. Very cold. But Zion was too focused to mind that He led us to a pool of water somewhere in the cave, then he to nudge stopped and used his nosentedtowards the water.
