Chapter 236 An Indescribable Sense of Alert
After saying that, Lu Jinye received a door knock followed by his secretary’s voice informing him that
the document he requested had been sent to this email. It then occurred to Mu Zhi that Lu Jinye must
have been losing sleep due to the difficult situation in Europe.
However… Despite the tremendous challenges Lu Jinye was facing, he did not forget about her trivial
matters.
His gesture instantly moved Mu Zhi.
She promptly said to him, “Go deal with your work now. Don’t worry about me, I can handle it.”
“Have a good sleep tonight, love you.”
Listening to her sweet voice, Lu Jinye slowly relaxed his frown despite how exhausted he was.
He hung up the call and plunged straight into work.
Lu Jinye ordered his men to look into the cause of death of his collaboration partner in Europe. He just
received the outcome in his email. Everything about the death of his partner seemed normal.
However, the more normal it appeared, the more suspicious it was to him!
Sitting before his laptop, Lu Jinye meticulously studied the medical record of his partner. The partner
was admitted into the hospital in the prior month due to appendicitis, but there was a sudden
complication triggered by his appendicitis that led to his death.
Lu Jinye inspected every data on the screen, and they appeared utterly logical. But it suddenly struck
Lu Jinye that… There was a change in doctors amid his treatment.
The doctor-in-charge was reassigned to another hospital while a highly decorated doctor took his
place.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter handling Lu Jinye’s partner’s case, the doctor left the hospital.
By the looks of the doctor’s portfolio, the chances of mishandling a patient’s treatment were supposedly
close to zero.
Upon scanning through the data and report, Lu Jinye gave Mu Zhi another call.
Mu Zhi had just washed her face and choosing the right dress for the occasion when she received Lu
Jinye’s call. She answered it spontaneously.
“What happened?”
“I’ve forwarded some documents to your email, take a look at it and let me know what you think about
it.”
“Sure.”
Mu Zhi had no idea what Lu Jinye had sent her, but she gladly obliged.
After dressing up, she got into a cab and opened the email from Lu Jinye.
The document outlined the patient’s fitness test and drug prescription. Nothing seemed to be out of the
norm.
Even his appendicitis appeared to be caused by a natural viral infection, which was commonly seen in
elderly patients.
“What are you looking for in the report?”
Mu Zhi could not help but ask Lu Jinye after going through a rigorous study and not finding anything
abnormal.
Lu Jinye cited a procedure in the report and asked Mu Zhi, “Don’t you find it weird that this drug was
prescribed when the patient’s vitals showed symptoms of multiple organ failures? What would you do in
their shoes?”
After getting pointed out, Mu Zhi hurriedly scrolled to the aforementioned page to check the numbers
Lu Jinye had discussed. As soon as she did, she was stunned.
“An intern?” Asked Mu Zhi.
Lu Jinye said a name, “Tom Hank.”
“!”
Mu Zhi was instantly alerted.
“Impossible.”
She dismissed him at once.
“Why is it impossible?”
Lu Jinye had an answer, but he insisted on asking Mu Zhi so she could confirm his surmise.
True enough, Mu Zhi’s response matched his thoughts.
“Tom Hank is one of the top doctors in the world. For a prescription error that even you and I could
pinpoint, he would notice it in the first place.”
“But not this time. What does that tell you?”
“Murder.”
Mu Zhi bit her lips.
It was a part of the Hippocratic Oath to ‘first do no harm’. A world-renowned doctor like him would
never make such an amateur mistake because… To get to where he was today at his age, he was
unquestionably a medical prodigy! And since he was a medical prodigy, such a mistake could only be
done intentionally.
Upon getting what he asked for, Lu Jinye hung up the call to attend to work.
The cab had arrived at the restaurant before Mu Zhi realized.
She hastily settled the fares and hurried into the restaurant.
However, even when she was in the restaurant, the ordeal of prescription error continued to echo in her
head. And eventually, she related the incident to her mother’s death!
Mu Zhi pursed her lips and secretly decided to investigate the cause of her mother’s accident
thoroughly.
“Mu Zhi, thank you for coming.”
Mu Xianyong had taken his seat. Upon seeing Mu Zhi’s arrival, he let out a pleased smile like a gentle
father.
He rummaged through his pocket and handed Mu Zhi a little gift.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“What is this for?”
Mu Zhi looked at the gift and asked curiously.
Mu Xianyong wore that same smile. “I’ve missed out too much of your life. So I hope to make it up to
you every time we meet.”
Mu Zhi hesitated, thought briefly, and asked, “What is this gift? I can’t take it if it’s too sumptuous.”
“Open it, don’t worry, it didn’t come at a hefty price.” Reassured Mu Xianyong.
Mu Zhi threw another suspicious glance at Mu Xianyong before unwrapping the gift.
It was a box of chocolate.
“I heard that you used to love chocolates as a kid, but your mother wouldn’t buy any for you. I
understand that it’s too late now, but…”
“Thank you.”
Before Mu Xianyong could finish his words, Mu Zhi interrupted him by showing her gratitude.
Mu Xianyong let out yet another satisfying smile.
It was a light-hearted dinner.
Mu Zhi did not interact much with Mu Xianyong, but he seemed to understand her pretty well. During
their casual chatter, Mu Zhi would feel strangely close to him.
Mu Xianyong told him that it was the effect of consanguinity.
The darkness of the sky quickly draped over the sky over the course of the meal. After dinner, Mu Zhi
and Mu Xianyong slowly headed out of the restaurant to find the glamor of the street lights filling the
city.
Mu Zhi intended to take the cab. When Mu Xianyong offered her a ride, she refused him.
He did not press on and allowed her to go home alone.
Sitting in the cab, Mu Zhi’s lips were curved upward. On their journey home, the driver said that he
needed to fuel up the car.
Mu Zhi came back to her senses and agreed to it.
She didn’t have a choice. It would’ve worse if they were stuck in the middle of the road.
However, after agreeing, it dawned on Mu Zhi that the driver had slowly moved out of the original route.
Looking at the unfamiliar sceneries of the road, Mu Zhi suddenly felt an indescribable sense of alert.
