Carol had covered all of Listina's medical expenses, leaving Felix with 20 grand in his pocket.
After picking up the gift set, he toted it back home, not expecting to bump into one of Listina's friends there. He didn't spot them,
but they sure did him. Surprised, she snapped a photo of him.
Listina, still in the hospital, received the picture.
[Listina, your guy Felix is just amazing, sticking by you through thick and thin, working his tail off, and he's right there even when
you're sick. You just got out of surgery, and he's already got this fancy gift for you. I'm green with envy!]
She might not have tried those brands before, but Listina knew of them, and her lips curved into a smile. Seeing someone praise
Felix naturally made her happy.
[He's like that, always wanting to givethe best of everything. Thank goodness the surgery went well; | don't know what he'd do
on his own.]
[You must have saved a galaxy in your past life to land such a catch. Handsand faithful to boot.]
Continuing to smile, Listina thought about her upcoming birthday. Felix must have bought the gift set for that.
The skincare set wasn't cheap, probably costing over a thousand bucks, but he was clearly willing to splurge.
She felt a warm glow in her chest, wishing she could see him right then. But since it was meant to be a surprise, she played it cool
to avoid letting him down.
When Felix returned to their apartment, Carol was still sprawled on the couch. He set the box down, covered the leftovers on the

Then he scooped Carol up and carried her to the bedroom to help her out of her clothes. Carol, groggy, swatted his hands away.
"I need a shower."
She was a stickler for cleanliness, too tired or not. Plus, after a shift at the diner, she reeked of grease.
"Sleep now, shower in the morning."
"No way, | feel grimy. Gotta wash."
He rubbed his temples and went to adjust the shower temperature for her.
Carol hopped in for a quick wash, suddenly realizing she was hungry. She wandered into the living room, intending to grab some
bread from the fridge, but instead, her eyes landed on a set of skincare products on the couch.
No need to guess - she'd complained, and he'd run out to buy it.
She was a regular user of that brand, but at her level of patronage, she could order customized formulas directly from their
headquarters based on her skin needs. What she used wasn't available on the market, and she hadn't mentioned this to Felix.
While Felix showered, Carol took the skincare set to the bathroom door and called through.
"Why'd you go and buy something so pricey? Such a waste of money," she grumbled, but inside, she was over the moon.
He was drying his hair, hearing her continue, "Goodness, this must've eaten up our living expenses for two months."
His hand froze mid-wipe as he looked at his reflection, blurred by a foggy mirror. He wiped it, revealing half his face, his jawline
tense. Probably reminded by Carol, he felt an indescribable agitation creeping in.
Carol kept on, swiftly snapping a photo of the skincare set and posting it to her Facebook. Her friends, numerous and quick to
comment, chimed in.
"Ms. Miller, you have cars worth hundreds of thousands and you never post them. Skincare today?"
"That shopping card you got last thad more money on it than this."
"Hit hard times, have we?"
Carol ignored the teasing, joyfully starting her skincare routine in front of the mirror.
The bathroom door opened, and Felix stood there, a towel wrapped around his waist. Carol had bought them sfancy pajamas,
plenty of them, but Abner had taken all their clothes, so she'd had to make a quick supermarket run to ensure they had something
to wear the next day.
Abner had been ruthless, sure she'd ccrawling back soon. But Carol found her days, though tough, sweet as honey.
"Felix, look at my skin, so much better."
She pulled him close and dabbed a bit of cream on his cheek. Felix, naturally handsome, didn't need any skincare products - his
skin was envy-inducingly smooth, much to Carol's chagrin.
"Your skin must be God-given, right? So lucky."
He leaned into her touch, experiencing women's skincare for the first tand not quite liking the feel of it on his face.
But Carol was delighted, cradling his face and looking it over from different angles. Their eyes met, and the air buzzed with a newly
intimate energy. Carol never hid her desires; she leaned in for a kiss without hesitation.
