Chapter 278 What an Unfamiliar Word

It was already morning when Josephine woke up.

She clambered up from bed in a daze. She felt an excruciating pain when her palm came in contact

with the sheets.

Josephine intuitively raised her hands before her eyes. Both were in bandages. Wounds were also all

over her fingertips and had Band-Aids over them.

Confusion flashed in her eyes.

Something peeked through the clouds in her mind, but it disappeared when she focused on it, leaving

her in suspense.

Frustration rose within her.

Suddenly, the door opened, and Seth walked in. Josephine looked at him. This man was

another reason for her confusion.

Seth wore a black tuxedo with a longer lapel today. As he strode in, he lowered his eyes, and their

gazes met.

Josephine hadn’t ceased being surprised whenever she saw him. She would secretly guess his gender.

Then, she saw his Adam’s apple. She gestured, “Who are you?”

Seth read her gestures, and his lips curled into a smile. “Have you forgotten me again?”

Josephine frowned.

Seth sat beside her and reached out to touch the top of her head. Josephine flinched.

However, he still managed to touch her. He caressed her and said smilingly, “I’m your brother -have

you forgotten?”

Josephine was stunned. She sized him up. She had no memories of having a brother.

Seth took advantage of her memory loss and started fabricating lies. “We lost each other when you

were five. I’d been searching for you all these years and had finally located you three years ago. But

you’ve forgotten all about me now. How sad.”

Josephine’s eyes gradually widened. She remembered being adopted into the Alvarez family when she

was five, but she remembered nothing of her life prior to that.

She acknowledged that she wasn’t one of the Alvarez family. Therefore, she gave Seth the benefit of

the doubt.

No one knew how much she missed home all these years when she was with the Alvarez family.

It was more so whenever Daphne bullied her. She would always imagine having parents to

defend her from bullies if she was with her true family.

But to her utter dismay, she didn’t even know who her parents were.

The only person she could rely on was Lewis. Every night, she would be afraid that she would wake up

to Lewis abandoning her too.

So, when Seth claimed that he was her brother, Josephine felt something squeeze her heart. Her heart

dully ached.

Seth noticed her misty eyes and the smile on his lips faded ever so slightly. “Hm? Do I’m lying?”

Josephine opened her mouth, and her tears fell uncontrollably. She shook her head and gestured, “But

why do I not remember anything?”

“It’s because you’re ill.” Seth patiently explained to her, providing details about her condition and

clarifying how much time had passed since the year she believed it was.

Josephine took her phone and checked the time and date to verify his statement.

She had no reason to doubt him now.

Josephine clutched her phone and stared back at Seth, her eyes boring into him.

Seth smiled innocently. He looked harmless and gentle, like the boy next door. His appearance was

deceptive.

His looks led Josephine to let her guard down gradually.

“Do you believe me now?” asked Seth.

Josephine hesitated before she gestured, “I do.”

Seth abruptly laughed. He stroked her head with more force and pulled her into his arms.” That’s great.

Come, say my name.”

Josephine pressed her lips together. She tried to speak but failed at several attempts.

Seth lowered his gaze to look at her. He found it strange. She was capable of speaking.

Her inability to vocalize her thoughts might be related to her psychological issues.

If so, it meant nothing even if she did speak-she would still forget how to do so the next day.

Josephine leaned against him. She heard his heartbeat and smelled the faint scent of pine on him.

She found his scent somewhat familiar and disliked it somewhere deep down.

Therefore, although she believed he was her brother, Josephine set up a wall between her and Seth,

putting some distance between them.

Seth hugged her for a while before releasing her. “Are you hungry?”

Josephine paused. It might be psychological, but her stomach cooperatively rumbled just as she heard

his question.

Seth heard it too. He chuckled. “Come on, let’s get something to eat,” he said as he headed outside.

Josephine stared at his back for several seconds before getting out of bed. She picked up her phone

and saw unread messages. She clicked on it.

The first message she saw was the one from Conrad.

Conrad didn’t say much except that Lewis suffered severe injuries, and he hoped Josephine would visit

Lewis.

Josephine’s heart sank when she read that.

Was Lewis injured?

She lost her appetite after she learned of that.

Sitting beside her, Seth glanced at her and asked, “What is it? Something’s troubling your mind

already?”

Josephine’s lips pressed together as she looked at Seth. She put down her spoon and gestured, “Do

you know much about Lewis?”

Seth’s eyes flickered. His smile was unwavering as he answered, “Of course. I’m currently working at

Alvarez Corp, too. Do you want to meet him?”

His words enhanced Josephine’s trust in his identity.

Josephine nodded. She would trust him fully that he was her brother if he was willing to meet Lewis

with her and obtain Lewis’ acknowledgment.

Henceforth, she wouldn’t be alone anymore.

A family…

What an unfamiliar word.

It felt surreal.

Seth placed a wrap on her plate and said, “Eat up. I’ll bring you there after this.”

Josephine nodded and brought the wrap to her lips, munching on it while zoning out. Due to the wound

on her palm, she could only eat with a spoon or without utensils. Seth watched her silently. She

gobbled up her food, stuffing her mouth like a hamster.

He smiled and helped her tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.

Josephine was surprised. She tilted her head and looked at Seth from the corners of her

She felt an indescribable feeling creeping up inside of her.

Although Seth smiled harmlessly, his smile was different from Quintin’s.

She could see Quintin’s smile for what it was. As for Seth, she could only perceive his smile

superficially and not his true emotions.

Josephine averted her gaze and silently finished her breakfast.

eyes.

After they had had enough, Seth asked the helper to keep the dishes away. He told Josephine to

change her clothes-he would take her to meet Lewis.

Josephine followed him to the closet on the second floor. Seth opened the closet door, and Josephine

was stunned to see the vast array of female outfits.

She looked at Seth, baffled. She gestured, “Are these all mine?”

Seth nodded with a doting smile on his face. “Yes, they are.” He took two outfits from the hangers and

handed them to her as he spoke. He said, “Try these on.”
