Chapter 279
“No way! He doesn’t remember me at all Did Taylor get his memory back? Clara staggered back a few steps,
Impossible! His mom told me straight up he won’t recover in this lifetime-”
Her words halted in the middle of her sentence.
Her eyes met Emmett’s, and Clara instinctively lowered her gaze.
“So, you guys were lovers before but broke up because of his mother’s interference?”
Clara hesitated before answering, “If you want to put it that way, I can’t really argue. I wouldn’t say we were a real
couple, and we didn’t have approval from our families, just some mutual feelings at most! Taylor and I never really
did anything intimate; even our kisses were limited to the forehead. His mother couldn’t stand me to the point of

“And your child…
“Not Taylor’s.”
Emmett furrowed his brows, “Clara, what’s your past really like?”
He couldn’t even begin to imagine!
“Nothing but a shit show! Emmett, I don’t want to revisit my past; please respect that.”
The air in the office seemed to freeze.
After a long silence, Emmett finally spoke, “You can leave.”
Without a word, Clara left his office.
Just as the door closed, she heard the sound of a vase shattering!
Ricardo, not far off, had heard it too.
He hurried over, “What’s up with Mr. Melendez?”
Clara shook her head, “I have no idea.”
“Did Taylor cause trouble again?” Ricardo looked at Clara, “Didn’t I tell you to stop mentioning Taylor in front of Mr.
Melendez? Did you plead on Taylor’s behalf again?”
“I didn’t! I didn’t mention Taylor at all, but Emmett brought it up! And I didn’t lie to him and just answered his
questions.” Clara was also clueless about why Emmett was so pissed.
Was she supposed to be happy about her past?
If she could choose, she’d want to avoid it too!
How many people are born into wealth like Emmett?

She walked away, leaving Ricardo standing there, helpless.
When would these two stop hurting each other? A calm, sit-down conversation could solve so many issues.
Clara was totally out of it, sitting in her office, lost in thought.
Time flew by, and it was time to clock out; employees began to leave the office one after another.
Clara stood up, rubbed her numbed legs, and opened the office door.
Suddenly-
A figure was blocking her door.
‘Emmett? What are you doing here…”
“I’m off work. I figured I’d give you a ride home.” Emmett frowned, then turned to walk ahead.
Clara paused momentarily, then quickly grabbed her bag and followed him.
They rode the elevator down to the underground parking lot, and only after getting into the car did Clara carefully
ask, “Are you not mad anymore?”
