Chapter 67 I'll Look After

“Mm-hmm...” Eric's nod was distant, his attention elsewhere until he suddenly tensed.
“Wait, a match? What are you suggesting?”
Nyla fixed him with a stern look. “Isn’t it obvious?”
It dawned on Eric immediately.
His annoyance flared. “Grandma, this can’t be your serious intention.”
Was this ssort of joke? Organizing a birthday gathering to showcase every suitable bachelor in Srixby for
Hadley’s selection?
“Grandma.” Eric's voice was laden with exasperation as he rubbed his temples. “Is there anyone in Srixby
unaware of my relationship with her?”
“Whose responsibility is that?” Nyla’s response was sharp and cold. “Had you treated her right, would | need to
take such steps?”
“But, Grandma...”
“Stop,” Nyla interjected, her hand raised to silence him. “I've made up my mind. Without my interference, what
if she finds herself yet another unsuitable older man?”
She shook her head in dismay. “We cannot let that happen again. Eric...” Her gaze met his, laden with remorse.
“You pushed her away. Both of us did her wrong. It’s my duty to see she finds a good man who can take care of
her; otherwise, Ill find no peace even in death.”
“Grandma...” Eric was speechless, feeling defeated.
With no alternatives left, he let out a resigned sigh. “Alright, we'll do it your way.”
Nodding with approval, Nyla confirmed her plans. “Excellent. Since Linda is away, you will oversee this. Ensure
that every eligible young man from Srixby is invited.”
“Alright.”
The word cfrom Eric through clenched teeth, the effort seeming to cause him discomfort.
“And one more thing,” Nyla continued. “Keep this from Hadley for now. | want to secure the right suitor before we
tell her.”
Finding the ideal match for Hadley wouldn't be straightforward.

Yet compromising on standards was out of the question.
Having been nurtured by the Flynn family, Hadley deserved a partner of stature, someone fitting to join their
family. Even it was for a second marriage, Nyla wouldn’t allow Hadley to marry beneath her.

After the discussion, Eric left the study and went to his own room.
It was already late, and he had no plans to return to Silver Villas tonight. He decided to stay here instead.
As he passed by Hadley’s room, Eric paused momentarily,
Since she was fifteen, Hadley had been living in the Flynn household. This room had always belonged to her.
Even during her marriage to Eric and her subsequent years abroad, Nyla ensured it stayed just as she left it.
Currently, the door was closed.
Eric's gaze sharpened. What could Hadley possibly be doing inside?
Suddenly, the door swung open.
Their eyes locked. Eric, feeling unexpectedly uncomfortable, quickly diverted his gaze.
“Eric.” Hadley’s voice halted him.
His expression tensed. Her tone carried no warmth, only a cool, formal distance that somehow irked him, though
he couldn't pinpoint the cause.
“What's wrong?” Hadley asked, noticing his expression shift to one of annoyance, puzzled by what might have
bothered him this time.
Yet, this only seemed to aggravate him further.
His voice was sharper than he meant it to be. “What do you want?”
Confronted by his abruptness, Hadley went directly to the point. “I need a favor. Could you helpby not telling
Nyla about my job at Galant? Just say I'm tutoring kids, teaching them dancing. Is that okay?”
There it was.
Eric gave a slight nod. “Understood.”
He pondered for a moment before saying, “This isn’t sustainable, though. You should consider leaving Galant
soon.”
Hadley’s expression hardened, and she managed a strained smile. “It's my livelihood.”
“Do you really need to do this?” Eric clearly didn’t approve. “You wouldn't be left without means.”
Hadley responded with a sarcastic laugh, “Really? And just how am | supposed to get by?”
“Ill look after you!”
The words blurted out before Eric could stop them, freezing them both.
Hadley blinked, unsure she heard right. “What did you say?”

Chapter 67 I'll Look After You
Eric swallowed hard.
Instant regret washed over him as he realized what he'd said. What was he thinking?
Trying to regain control, he quickly replied, “I mean, our family would support you. Grandma loves you like a
granddaughter. Do you think she’d ever let you go hungry?”
Ah, so that was what he was getting at.
Hadley exhaled softly, somewhat comforted by his clarification. A faint smile appeared on her face. “But I'm not
truly a Flynn. While Nyla may care deeply for me, | can’t preson her generosity. The Flynn family has given
With a dismissive wave, she signaled the end of their discussion. “It’s late. I'm heading to bed néw. Good night.”

Eric remained in the hallway, his expression contemplative.
This Hadley... she moved with a certain poise, judiciously choosing when to step forward and when to pull back.
She was no longer the reckless girl he once knew.
Could any of Srixby’s elite look beyond her history and truly value her?
Eric's jaw tightened. Cursed be that upcoming birthday gathering.
Despite his deep-seated annoyance, he acknowledged his duty to see it through.
Above all, he truly wished to be celebrating Hadley’s birthday with her.
Unbeknownst to Hadley, the preparations for the party were already underway.
That very morning on her birthday, while having breakfast with Nyla amidst an unusual bustle around the house-
marked by delivery trucks and busy staff- Hadley looked around bewildered. “Nyla, what's happening today?”
Nyla gave her a warm smile, patting her hand affectionately. “It’s your special day, my dear. We're preparing for
your birthday banquet.”
Hadley’s eyes shot open in surprise. “What? But... you shouldn’t have gone to such lengths. It’s just another
birthday.”
It had been ages since she'd celebrated her birthday in any significant way.
Her own birthday had slipped her mind entirely.
“It's essential.”
Nyla expressed regret through her demeanor. “You weren't introduced properly during the welcbanquet last
time... We need to rectify that. | want everyone in Srixby to acknowledge that you are as dear toas
granddaughter.”
“Nyla...”
“Everything is set in motion.” Nyla’s face lit up with a reassuring smile. “The invitations have gone out, and the
staff are ready. All you need to do is get dressed up and enjoy the evening.”
