Chapter 526
Mr. Wayne’s expression turned severe, but Julia still went on to whine petulantly, “This must be
Serenity Lewis’s doing! She’s showing off her power! What a wicked woman! Just because Jackson
Valor is interested in her now doesn’t mean that she can put on airs like that…”
But Mr. Wayne’s unease only grew stronger and stronger. Perhaps this matter might not resolve quite
so easily as he thought. “Dad,” said Julia with a pout, “since they say they’re too busy right now, let’s
just go home.”
But just as soon as she had finished her sentence, Mr. Wayne’s phone rang. He answered it and
shortly after, all the color was drained from his face, and he broke out in cold sweat.
Julia was puzzled when she saw how crestfallen her father seemed after hanging up the phone, so she
asked him, “What’s Wrong, Dad?”
As a reply, her father raised his hand and slapped her hard on the face.

The tax evasion scandal could no longer be concealed from the public now. That call earlier was from
an important connection in the Tax Bureau, someone he had managed to build a friendship with after
much effort, yet that person had just informed him that his case would be investigated thoroughly, and
no one would be able to intercede it no matter what.
The problem was not merely limited to taxes and fines. Once all the taxes and fines were paid, the
cash flow in the company would suddenly be cut off, and with that problem came a whole host of other
problems for the company’s smooth operation.
Perhaps the only way to keep the company afloat for now was to take out a bank loan, but the problem
was.. was any bank ever going to lend them a loan at this point? Mr. Wayne suddenly thought of what
the butler had just told them.
Jackson Valor… Had he figured out beforehand that the Wayne family was about to fall into such a
crisis? Or was he… actually the one commandeering everything behind the screen?!

After all, that connection of his had once told him that he could
problems for half a month longer, so as long as he could find someone to help him within this half a
month, there was still a chance to turn things around.
But now, that chance seemed pretty impossible.
Mr. Wayne only wished he could strangle his daughter’s throat right now. What a st upid girl! The whole
family was about to crash into oblivion all because of her!
Meanwhile, back inside the Valor Residence, Serenity was all cozied up on the couch in the living room
watching a new television series, completely oblivious to the chaos outside. The television set here was
as big as a small theater screen, so it felt like she was watching a movie in the cinema.
She had been feeling much better ever since returning to work at the restaurant these past few days
because Yanny’s operation had gone very well and the boy had since made wonderful progress, so
much so that even she could notice the rapid progress he made every single day.

on the couch.
He had instructed his staff not to let Serenity know that the Waynes had just been here earlier. To him,
this was nothing but a minor inconvenience, too inconsequential a thing to spoil her good mood over.
“Yeah,” she smiled before sharing with Jackson what had been cheering her up so much. “Do you
know that Yanny doesn’t even need to read my lips anymore? He could just listen to me and make out
what I say now! He’s clearly a genius!
“Genius?” Jackson snorted good-humoredly when he heard this. “I guess he’s not that different from
his father.”
His father? This shocked Serenity. Her eyes widened, and she asked him, “Do you know who Yanny’s
father is?”
“I do,” Jackson readily admitted.
Serenity was stunned. Ever since she had started working in the restaurant, she had been curious
about who Yanny’s father

could be and why he had never shown up by Clara’s side. In fact, some of her colleagues had secretly
speculated that perhaps Clara had gotten pregnant out of wedlock.
