Chapter 313 Jonathan felt so helpless as he faced the Lone Demon Beast. He was fretting like a cat on hot bricks, perturbed about Mabel's safety.

While he was caught in a major quandary, death was beckoning to poor Mabel. Their predicaments could not get any worse than that.

Jeff sighed and said, “We should have expected this.” “Expected what?” Jonathan asked.

Jeff replied, “All the spiritual herbs and precious medicines found on the mountains must be guarded by beasts. The baby ghosts in Pinelake Mountain Forest are all high- quality supplements, so how could there be no beasts guarding them? If we had thought of this earlier, we would've brought the bazooka along, and we wouldn't be terrified of the beasts.” Jonathan nodded in agreement.

Had | known is always at last! Unfortunately, it was too late for such wishful thinking.

“Could Mabel be saved?” Jonathan asked even though he himself was in grave danger.

Jeff sighed again and uttered, “Mabel needs to consume at least a hundred baby ghosts in order to transform the mana in her brain into dark energy. To date, she has only consumed less than twenty baby ghosts. The negative energy in her brain is at war with each other right now.

Even the Great Emperor cannot save her!” Jonathan's heart sank immediately when he heard those words. He was inundated with great sorrow.

Once again, Jeff sighed. “You don't have to be too sad. I'm afraid our lives will all end right here, right now.” Jonathan glared at the Lone Demon Beast, hatred written all over his face. “Is there really nothing else we can do to get rid of this d*mned beast?” Jeff answered solemnly, “Don't you know that one

invincible person alone can destroy ten great masters? All tricks in the face of absolute power are useless.” “If that's the case, you two should leave at once. I'll hold the beast back,” proposed Jonathan after making up his mind on the spur of the moment.

Stunned, Jeff and Beatrix gazed at Jonathan simultaneously.

Jeff smiled wryly. “I've been cultivating for over a century.

It's very hard for me to let go of the things on earth. If | had a choice, I'd rather suffer and die a glorious death than scurry away like a coward.” Beatrix chimed in, “Jon, you're the weakest among us. I've promised Master to protect you, so | won't leave you behind no matter what.” Jonathan was annoyed and said, “It's a crucial time right now, so stop talking and go! If this monster was staring at you two instead of me, I'd have run for my life already.”

In actual fact, he would not do that.

Afterward, Jonathan zipped his mouth, turned around, and fled.

This time, he learned from his mistakes and took a zigzag path while fleeing. He also targeted the big trees and ran around them for better protection.

Besides, he was so worried about Mabel's condition that he went looking for her right away.

Mabel was going through horrible torture. Conflicted as if she was trapped between two hells, the endless agony drove her nearly mad. It felt like her body parts were at war with one another.

When Jeff approached her, he noticed that her entire body was drenched in sweat, and her face had turned ashen.

These signs and symptoms indicated a rapid loss of her vital energy.

“Mabel!” Jeff went pale and gasped in shock.

Mabel used all of her might to prop herself up. She grabbed Jeff's arm and requested, “J-Jeff... Jeff... Kill me...” Shuddering, Jeff was at a loss for words. He felt so sorry for Mabel.

They had known each other for a very long time, so Jeff knew Mabel was a strong-willed, unwavering person.

However, the tough, determined Mabel was in so much pain that she was now seeking death.

She was staring at him with eyes filled with pain and anguish.

Yet, Jeff shook his head and denied her request. “No. No way..." Tears started streaming down Mabel's face as she dug her sharp nails into her palm. Clenching her jaw, she said through gritted teeth, “Jeff, would you rather watch me suffer like this? Why don't you end my life once and for all?” Jeff shook his head. “No, Mabel, you don't get it. This isn't the end yet. There's a chance we could turn things around even though I'm not quite sure how to do that. Anyhow, please hang in there. If you could persevere till the end, you might be able to start anew. This is a trial you have to go through. It's a question of mind over matter, Mabel!” “But | don't see a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel.

Do you, Jeff? Tell me!” said Mabel.

Jeff replied, “Jonathan!”

“Jonathan isn't God. There are times that even he is powerless,” refuted Mabel.

“He can always create a miracle! Listen to me and hang in there. Please give Jonathan some time. Otherwise, we'll all die with regrets,” Jeff stated firmly.

After hearing what he said, Mabel's eyes gleamed with hope.

She was hopeful because of Jonathan.

But where is he now? Meanwhile, Jonathan was in such a dire situation that he didn't have time to think of anything, including how to save Mabel. His own life was at stake.

After running for about a hundred meters into the distance, the Lone Demon Beast was slowly catching up with him.

Clearly, Jonathan's speed and power were not on par with the monster's. The Lone Demon Beast only had to take one step to catch up with Jonathan when the latter took ten steps.

She was sent flying before landing on the ground steadily.

The delay made it nearly impossible for her to catch up with both the Lone Demon Beast and Jonathan again.

The unpredictable situation left her panicking. She was always able to tackle any opponents since the day she made a name for herself. However, the Lone Demon Beast was an exception. She could not find a way to attack or subdue it.

Even though the Lone Demon Beast had not cultivated even once, it was blessed with divine superpowers.

Every individual and animal had ordinary strength in them.

It was not something people would pay much attention to, but any kind of force, no matter how insignificant it was, could become indestructible once it became increasingly powerful.

Though it was practically impossible for Beatrix to catch up with the Lone Demon Beast, she did not give up.

Conversely, she dashed forward and continued chasing after it.

While escaping, Jonathan felt the ground behind him shake as if there was an earthquake. As the wind blew, a pungent stench of blood wafted up his nose. He knew that he couldn't afford to lower his guard, for a tiny mistake on his part would result in the Lone Demon Beast smashing him into pieces.

Does the Lone Demon Beast hold a grudge against me? Why does he hate me so much? D*mn it! Why is it so persistent in chasing me? Why can't he just give up? In the nick of time, Jonathan spotted a cave.

Without hesitating, he dashed forward and squirmed into it like a snake in order to escape death.

The moment he entered the cave, the ground behind him shook violently.

The entrance to the cave could only fit three people at once. Considering how humungous the Lone Demon Beast was, it was impossible for it to go inside.

Thus, the Lone Demon Beast swung its claws, attempting to destroy the cave.

Jonathan turned around and saw that half of the beast's body was already inside the cave.

“Sh*t!” he cursed. Panic-stricken, Jonathan did not know what to do. He jumped to his feet and darted further into the cave.

Suddenly, a thunderous boom rang out as the cave shook vigorously. The Lone Demon Beast had successfully demolished the entrance to the cave and entered it.

Now, Jonathan had been forced into a dead end with no way to escape.

Gosh, the beast is capable of demolishing the whole cave, but I'm not able to do that! Perhaps it was not Jonathan's time to die yet, for he discovered a small tunnel by the side, and took the chance to quickly flee.

The tunnel was very deep and was about thirty meters long.

Beast is, he can't shatter the entire cave and this long tunnel, can he? Jonathan was overjoyed at that thought.

After running as fast as he could for around ten meters, Jonathan turned to look behind him and heaved a sigh of relief.

The Lone Demon Beast was standing at the front of the tunnel, giving him a death stare. However, it did not look like it intended to tear the place down.

At that moment, Jonathan knew that the Lone Demon Beast had given up chasing him because it could not enter the tunnel.

With that, he plucked up the courage and gave the beast a thumbs-up.

A glint of fury flashed across the Lone Demon Beast's eyes. Shortly after, it left.

A realization then dawned on Jonathan. The Lone Demon Beast is making its way to attack Jeff and the others! Terrified, he was concerned about Mabel's condition.

Initially, Jonathan wanted to chase after the beast. On second thought, he was afraid that it was part of the beast's diversion tactic.

He could not make up his mind on what to do.

Soon, he didn't have to hesitate anymore when he shockingly found out that the tunnel was not safe.

Before he knew it, many baby ghosts started appearing from the front and back of the tunnel.

There were hundreds of them crawling everywhere, besieging the entire tunnel.

The baby ghosts were different from those Jonathan had encountered before. They were ferocious, dark-skinned crawly creatures with several strands of white hair on their heads.

Their eyes were glowing with malevolence. They even gnashed their sharp teeth at Jonathan viciously, causing the latter's scalp to prickle with fear.

have to bend my body as | walk. How am | supposed to fight these devil infants when | can't even stretch my limbs freely? How can | run away? As the devil infants closed in on Jonathan, he hastily used his nail to make a cut on his wrist.

Instantly, blood gushed out from his wound as soon as he exerted force.

He then used his blood to form a protective layer of circle around him.

The devil infants were ready to devour him when the one standing in front suddenly stopped as it came into contact with Jonathan's blood. Seemingly, the devil infants were fearful of it.
