The road back home was so quiet that even the sound of a pin falling on the ground could be heard.
After entering the building, Evander released his grip on Angeline’s hand and directly pressed for the elevator to
reach her place.
“Someone from the legal department of Golding Group will go to your current company tomorrow to deal with the
rest of your contract.”
“What?” Angeline was stunned. She couldn’t believe her ears.
“Soon, you’ll be the artist of Golding Group,” Evander continued.
Having an unprecedented solemn expression on his face, he put his hands in his pockets. He didn’t look like he was
joking.
Angeline was shocked after hearing what he said. She clenched her fists tight.
“Why did you do it?”
The feeling of being informed all of a sudden aroused a sense of repulsion in her.
“I’m doing this for your own good. Golding Group promises you a better future than your current company. You
don’t even have to do all those unnecessary live streams.”
After Angeline heard that, layers of complicated emotions overcame her. It was only after a long while did she
finally understood what Evander meant by that. She couldn’t help but let out a self-deprecating chuckle.
“Thanks for that, Mr. Golding. But I hope you don’t force your thoughts on me. I have my own plans.”
If it were in the past, she would’ve been more than glad to receive such an opportunity. After all, Golding Group was
the top entertainment company in the country. Many artists still failed to secure themselves an offer despite their
best efforts.
However, for him to do so at that moment, it was obvious that all he wanted was to keep track of her.
She couldn’t accept such a domineering and impudent method.
Evander didn’t say anything more until they entered her place.
He was about to leave after making sure that Angeline was all right. Looking at how indifferent he was, she felt

How can he change his attitude so quickly? He laid the blame on me out of nowhere. Isn’t it supposed to be me who
gets angry?
“Mr. Golding,” Angeline called, suppressing the grievances in her heart. “I know you don’t trust me. But I still think
that I should explain to you.”
Evander paused his steps and turned to look at Angeline. “Go ahead.”
Staring at his cold eyes, Angeline felt disappointed. “I don’t know why did you get so angry tonight. But I can
guarantee you that I’ll never make the company suffer any losses because of my negative behavior,” she said
firmly.
Evander frowned. Looking at her alienated expression, he began to waver.
“It’s a fact that you’ve cooperated with Hanson. As for the pictures, are you going to tell me that they were
edited?”
Angeline didn’t like how he was questioning her. Calming herself down, she said in a deep voice, “I cooperated with
him because Forrester Group was my mother’s most precious possession when she was still alive. I had to win it
over. As for the relationship between Hanson and me, you can rest assured. I’ll never be with him.”
Hearing that, Evander relaxed his furrowed brows. His stare on her was still dark, but its earlier sullenness had
dissipated.
When Evander felt that he was relieved, he was slightly taken aback.
Only then did it strike his mind that Angeline could already affect his emotions to such a great extent.
After clearing up the misunderstanding, Angeline let out a sigh of relief too. She was about to ask Evander to go
home and rest early when she realized he had stepped into the bedroom.
Soon, she saw him walking over with a first aid kit. He didn’t say anything. Moving her hand away, he looked at her
skinny leg and saw the bruise underneath the nail of her swollen right big toe.
“Why are you so careless?” he asked with a hint of concern.
She didn’t expect him to notice her wound. As she furrowed her brows, her tone was a little aggrieved. “I hit it
accidentally.”
Opening the kit, Evander took out the cotton bud and coated it with some antiseptic solution. He gently rubbed it
against her big toe. Aside from the cooling sensation, she didn’t feel any pain.
After the disinfection, Evander applied the ointment to her wound. “Don’t let it get in contact with water these few
days. If it’s still swollen, go to the hospital and have it checked.”
“Thanks.”
Angeline pursed her lips. Another wave of warmth streaked through her. There was no longer any hostility in her
eyes when she looked at him.
“Don’t worry. I won’t do anything to your contract, nor would I force you to follow my thoughts.”
Angeline was at a loss for words.
A pang of guilt aroused in her as she stared at him. She was slightly regretful for being a little harsh to him just now.
Indeed, regarding the cooperation matter with Hanson, not only did she act without Evander’s permission, but she
also didn’t consider his feelings.
Angeline was lost in thought when her stomach started to rumble all of a sudden, breaking the silence in the living
room.
Her cheeks flushed. At that instant, she wanted nothing more than the ground to swallow her whole.
This is too embarrassing.
“Wait here for a while,” Evander said in a low voice.
After that, he turned around and walked toward the kitchen.
Is he… going to cook for me personally?
At the thought of that, Angeline stared at his tall figure with astonishment in her eyes.
She wondered about the types of food that he could make.
Instead of stopping him, Angeline grabbed the orange on the table and started peeling it to feed her stomach for

While waiting, she put the documents she brought back from Forrester Group on her lap and studied them carefully.
After flipping through a few pages, she saw a bill fall out of the documents.
It seemed that an unknown cosmetic company had owed Forrester Group fifty million when Forrester Group was at
the peak of its glory. But she didn’t know why the money wasn’t paid back.
When she thought about that, she quickly took her phone and googled about the cosmetic company.
It turned out that the company had gone into bankruptcy a year ago. It was probably because of that that the
payment wasn’t settled.
As for the exact reason, she needed to wait until tomorrow to ask the employees in her current company about it.
“Come over and eat.”
She was still going through the documents when the deep voice from the dining room drifted to her ears.
Right then, Angeline’s eyes lit up. She put away her work in a hurry and walked over.
When Evander saw the way she looked at the food, he was apologetic. Putting his fist over his mouth, he coughed
slightly. “Bear with this first. I don’t know how to cook anything else,” he said awkwardly.
As he spoke, he slowly revealed to her the food he had prepared.
The moment Angeline saw the bowl of instant noodles, a hint of helplessness flashed across her face. It took her a
while to come back to herself.
So, he got himself busy for almost half an hour in the kitchen just to cook the instant noodles?
When Evander saw Angeline wasn’t saying anything, he frowned slightly.
“You don’t like it?”
“No, it’s pretty appetizing. You even added an extra egg inside.”
Angeline deliberately let out a chuckle for fear that her comments would dampen his spirit.
Sitting on the chair, she picked up the fork and took a bite of the egg. She wondered how many eggshells were
mixed in it as she heard the cracks in her mouth.
