Chapter 145
Eloise posed a question.
Harvey was clearly caught off guard.
He slowly released Eloise and stood there puffing on his cigarette.
Eloise was prepared, but she still felt a pang of regret.
She slowly stood up.
After a moment of silence, she said in a low voice, "Harvey, all you want is a physical relationship. But | want
love, and | even want marriage. So you see, we're not compatible. Our passion might end up in resentment. Why
bother?"
Harvey tossed his cigarette and stomped it out.
He watched her in the dim light.
Eloise's face was delicate, her eyes slightly red, making her look as adorable as a bunny.
Harvey thought for a moment before he spoke.
"Eloise, | admit that before you, | did equate relationships with work. Spending smoney and energy and
then getting returns. | didn't see anything wrong with that. But | don't just want to sleep with you. Otherwise, |
wouldn't need to pester you, right?"
Eloise looked at him, knowing he hadn't gotten to the point yet.
Sure enough, Harvey's gaze deepened.
He said softly, "Eloise, | don't know where we can go. But my feelings for you are serious, and I've never
pestered any other woman. You're the first."
Eloise lowered her eyes.
Harvey didn't deceive her or sweet talk her.
He gently held her chin, "Eloise, | like you."
But it wasn't love yet.
His love burned too fiercely in his youth, and he hadn't found that fluttering feeling for a girl yet.
He did like Eloise, and their recent arguments had brought him down.
More so, he was uncomfortable with his disrupted routine.
He shouldn't have said these things to her, any girl hearing them wouldn't want to reconcile, but Harvey felt
spity for Eloise.
He didn't want to lie to her.
Harvey stepped back.
A calm expression appeared on his handsface, "Eloise, I'm sorry. | can't give you what you want."

The night wind was fierce.
Eloise felt cold, and she gently pulled on her coat.
She watched Harvey under the moonlight.
All the previous awkwardness and anger seemed to have moved away from her.
She liked Harvey, but she felt they didn't meet at the right time. They both had been hurt in love and didn't trust
each other.
Eloise took a step back.
She smiled faintly, "Attorney Horigan, be careful on your way home."
Harvey's gaze was deep.
He nodded politely, opened the car door, and got in.
But he didn't leave immediately, but lit another cigarette. After taking a puff, he
looked up to see Eloise still there and motioned her to leave, "You should get up. It's chilly out."
Eloise looked deeply at him, for the last time.
She suddenly turned and walked away.
Harvey slowly removed the cigarette from his mouth, staring blankly at her retreating figure.
Over the years, Eloise was the only woman who stirred his heart.
If there were no disagreements, he felt they could spend a long ttogether. He
also knew the reason they reached this point was because of him.
He could totally see the feelings that Eloise had for him.
But when she asked him tearfully if he loved her, he chose to let go of this relationship.
He didn't want to entrust his future to a woman and experience the pain of betrayal again, even though he knew
Eloise wouldn't do that.
Harvey sat in the car for a long time.
He took stto digest the impact this relationship had on him.
Soon, two months passed.
A lot happened in these two months. Eloise and Vanessa successfully took over Crescendo Sound Workshop,
becoming the largest music training center in
Peterborough, and their business was booming.
Meanwhile, Angus' case went to court last month.
Eloise and Harvey met once.
They had a brief conversation about work. His attitude was cold and distant, as if
those passionate nights never happened.
Eloise was the same.
Later, the court declared Angus innocent.
Eloise hesitated for a long time, but finally sent a message.
"Thank you, Attorney Horigan."
Three days later, Harvey replied.
"You're welcome."
Eloise looked at this message and it reminded her of the first tshe met
Harvey.
He was good at putting on a front and was quite introverted.
She smiled slightly, then moved on.
In early December, Veronica invited her for dinner.
When Eloise arrived there, she looked around and said, "Do you still feel like a
child now, that's why you ordered so many kids' meals?"
Veronica laughed.
She said in a low voice, "Eloise, I've been wanting a child lately."
Eloise knew about Veronica's situation--
Gunner was still fooling around outside, only respecting Veronica enough not to bring women home.
Eloise stirred her drink.
After a while, she asked, "Are you sure?"
Veronica hesitated, then said, "Eloise, you know, | haven't worked much since we got married, | can't live without
him. As for the women around him, | don't care."
She then looked at her belly, "Maybe having a child will make him settle down." Eloise gently held her hand.
"Veronica, do you want to work with me?"
Veronica shook her head and laughed, "I think I'll pass, | don't want to bother you guys."
Eloise didn't push her.
Veronica suddenly cleared her throat and said, "Tomorrow night is our wedding anniversary, Eloise, will you
come?"
Eloise hesitated.

After all, Gunner and Harvey ran in the scircles, would she see him then?
Veronica reassured, "Don't worry. Harvey hasn't been to any social events in the past two months. He's been
laying low. Besides, Gunner doesn't have enough pull to invite him."
With Veronica's assurance, Eloise agreed.
Then Veronica dropped another juicy piece of gossip.
"Eloise, did you hear? Joan went back to Britain. Gunner let it slip once that Joan
got into a catfight with her fiancé's mistress, and that chick was a real firecracker,
she sent Joan to the hospital."
Eloise was shocked to her core.
A wicked gleam shone in Veronica's eyes.
"Talk about birds of a feather."
"Rumor has it that the mistress was a nanny from the Lynch family."
"She must be quite the free spirit, and men love that about her."
As Veronica chatted away, midnight crept up on them.
Eloise couldn't bear to listen any longer, "I have something | need to take care of, | gotta bounce."
Veronica looked worried, "Don't forget our date tomorrow night, I'll text you the
details."
Eloise waved her off.
She took this to heart and specially changed her dress when she returned to her apartment the next night.
It was a long, ash-grey dress, covered by a light coat.
Eloise pulled her deep brown hair into an updo, looking incredibly elegant and sophisticated.
However, the moment she entered the room, everyone's gaze turned weird, and
no one uttered a word.
Eloise felt a sense of unease.
As her vision refocused, she saw who was sitting in the corner-
Harvey.
He was wearing a pair of meticulously chosen wool trousers, complemented by a
deep blue shirt.
Clearly, he had cstraight from sformal event.
Eloise felt a twinge of anxiety, and she turned to Veronica.
Didn't Veronica say that he wouldn't come?
