Chapter 140 Good Dog
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Seth withdrew his gaze and went to open the door.
Josephine took the opportunity to change into a pair of new pants.
When she turned around again, Seth had already left the room, and the door swung close.
Josephine let out a sigh of relief, slumping onto the bed weakly.
Seth walked down the hallway and entered another building. Inside, a man and a woman sat.
If Josephine had been there, she definitely would have recognized the woman. It was none other than
Sophia King
Seth casually sat down and leaned back against his chair lazily. He scanned the two of them. before
speaking “Miss King, why aren’t you by President Alvarez’s side like the dutiful little. servant you’re
supposed to be? Are you here because you wish to flee with me when it all
goes
down?”
Sophia was still in her professional attire. She sat primly in her seat, a weary smile on her face.
“Staying by his side won’t do me any good.
Seth crossed his legs and stared at her bemusedly. “So, you should reflect on your own problems.”
Sophia blushed slightly. “Right-actually, I’m here because there’s something you need to know. It might
be very difficult for you to leave Elysium now should you wish to do so.”
“Who said I wanted to leave Elysium?”
Sophia was taken aback. “So-you

Seth remained silent, his gaze fixed on the pouring rain, seemingly deep in thought. “What about
Lewis? What’s his reaction to the disappearance of his fiancé?”
Sophia’s brows furrowed, and she shook her head. “He hasn’t shown much of a reaction. In the past
two days, he’d been very busy with the company’s affairs, especially with the shareholders’ meeting
coming up soon-I suppose he doesn’t have the time to worry about that mute.”
Seth’s eyes flashed. He laughed. “How interesting.”
Sophia and the other man exchanged a glance. Neither of them could understand the meaning behind
Seth’s words.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSeth stood up again suddenly. “Alright, that’s enough. You can leave now.”
Sophia was slightly hesitant. “But we-we’ve come all the way here already. Is there still a chance for us
to turn back?”
Seth turned and glanced at her. “Why not? Lewis already knows that you’re planted at his side by
someone else. He just doesn’t know who.”
Sophia frowned, slightly surprised. “So, does that mean he already-”
Seth smiled. “Don’t worry. It has nothing to do with you nor your charms.”
Despite feeling exposed, Sophia did not bother to blush. Instead, she stood up and said, “I’ll take my
leave then.”
The man left along with her.
Soon, the homestead regained its initial silence.
Seth stood by the entrance, his head slightly lifted as he watched the rain drip from the roofs.
Josephine sat in the building for a while before she heard the faint sound of a vehicle and rushed to the
door. She pushed the door open to a slight crack and saw a white car leaving the homestead. However,
she hadn’t been able to memorize the car’s license plate number before a figure obstructed the door
crack.
Josephine grabbed the door frame and raised her head. It was then that she saw Seth’s smiling face
through the door.
She swallowed, finding herself trapped in a dilemma.
Seth pushed the door open and asked, “Can you cook?”
Josephine nodded.
“Go, then.”
Josephine froze, suspecting that she’d misheard him. She looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Seth continued, “There are raincoats in the sitting room, and the kitchen is to the left. Vegetables are in
the yard. There are some in the backyard too. There are only the two of us here. Now go. Make
dinner.”
When he’d finished, Josephine immediately walked out with her head bowed.
She went to the living room first and caught sight of three glasses on the coffee table.
So, whoever it had been earlier-Seth had known them.
She suppressed her thoughts and glanced around the room. Her gaze landed on the raincoats in the
corner.
Swiftly, she put the raincoat on and changed into rain boots before heading out to the backyard.
As soon as she reached the backyard, Josephine was stunned.
Vast tracts of land were dedicated to growing an assortment of vegetables, complemented by the
presence of several greenhouses. This place truly was a farming homestead.
The homestead was surrounded by stretches of mountains as well. She almost had no chance of
escaping, nor did she see any possible escape routes. No wonder Seth had allowed her to harvest the
vegetables in the backyard without taking any further measures.
Josephine carried a basket and headed over to the vegetable garden. There seemed to be everything
there. She saw pumpkins, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes-
Seth stood in the attic high above the homestead, leaning against the windowsill as he observed her in
the backyard.
From this angle, Josephine looked incredibly petite in her raincoat, her basket swaying as she
stumbled along, tripping over a few times.
As he observed her, the trademark smile that adorned the corners of his lips changed. He watched her
figure, but his eyes were distant.
In his mind, there was another memory of a different figure stumbling along and falling into his lap
multiple times.
When Josephine turned around, her figure overlapped with the one in his memory, and his eyes
changed instantly. Hints of coldness swiftly replaced the initial mirth in his eyes.
Carrying a large load of freshly harvested vegetables, Josephine trudged through the muddy terrain as
she made her way back to the homestead.
Although the homestead covered a significant land area, there was no electricity or gas. She had to
use firewood and obtain water from the well if she needed to cook.
She supposed it was on par with the organic and rustic setting of the homestead.
Josephine was rather inexperienced with using the kind of stove the homestead provided. She sat on a
stool, her cheeks puffed as she blew vigorously into the empty chamber of the stove. Then, she
scrambled to cut and wash the vegetables before cooking them.
When she was done preparing their meal, her face was already covered in soot and dust.
Seth glanced at the dishes on the table and then at Josephine.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmStanding before him, she anxiously wrung her hands together, her face smudged with dirt, resembling
that of a little kitten.
Seth laughed.
Josephine was terrified of that laugh of his. She stood anxiously and signed, “I can redo it.”
Seth shook his head. “There’s no need. Sit down and eat.”
Josephine shook her head swiftly.
Seth raised a brow. “Oh, I almost forgot. You don’t like eating at the table, do you?”
Josephine’s heart skipped a beat.
Seth took a bowl, filled it with food, and emptied another plate.
He got up, took the empty plate, and placed it on the ground before pouring the food from the bowl onto
the plate.
Afterward, he raised his head and smiled at her indulgently. “Eat, then.”
Josephine’s eyes flickered. She suddenly regretted her actions. She glanced at the stool from the
corner of her eye before looking at him questioningly.
Seth shook his head, a smile between his brows as he refused her request.
“Hurry up and eat,” he urged. “You don’t want me to feed it to you, do you?”
Josephine’s whole body tensed as she remembered the last time Seth had forced her head into a bowl.
She shook her head frantically,
Then, she signed, “Can I get a set of cutlery at least?”
Seth nodded once, supposedly granting her permission.
Josephine quickly ran over and retrieved a set of cutleries before she knelt on the ground and picked
up her plate.
She raised her head to look at him.
He stretched his fingers, and she instinctively shrunk her neck, but he made no move to hit her or force
her head into the plate.
Instead, he stroked her hair gently. “Not bad. What a good dog. Stay there and kneel properly. Don’t
stand up, you hear me?”
Josephine’s clenched fingers tightened, and tears threatened to spill.
She thought of Lewis.
Above her, Seth sneered.
