Chapter 163

Meanwhile, at Shelbert Condominium, Bailey was leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window as she

talked on the phone.

It was a call from Edmund.

“I heard that you've made two requests from Artemis, asking him to pass the word to Aunt Felicity. Bay,

Aunt Felicity has a strong sense of ego. She will choose neither of your choices. Given her personality,

it's more likely that she will insist on Cadence doing the operation,” Edmund said.

Bailey smiled and replied, “I know. That old woman loathes me. She will never come and apologize to

me. I just asked Artemis to pass the word to annoy her. I'm not a saint, nor a naive girl. There is no way

I'm putting up with that rotten attitude of hers.”

Edmund sighed. “Then what about my grandpa's surgery?”

“Don't worry. Old Mr. Chivers' treatment plan is ready. He can undergo the surgery at any time. I've

been forcing myself to move on from my past trauma. Your aunt's taunts will not make me change my

mind. I am indebted to your family, after all. I've only put out the two options to irritate her.”

Edmund chuckled and said apologetically, “I'm sorry. I misunderstood your intention. I should have

known better.”

“It's all right,” Bailey smiled. “You're just worried about your grandpa and afraid that I'm delaying his

surgery on purpose for my own grudges. You cannot be blamed for thinking that way. Please rest

assured that I will be true to my promise and carry on with Old Mr. Chivers' surgery. It is what I should

do.”

“I know. Sorry for being such a—”

Before Edmund could finish, someone knocked on her door. A little head popped in from the opening of

the door and said, “Bay, the matriarch of the Luther family has arrived. She's yelling outside the

entrance.”

Bailey was stumped. Then, she narrowed her eyes at the little girl and furrowed her brows as she

asked, “Are you certain?”

“Yes, I'm certain. I saw her through the peephole. She looked like she was about to devour someone.”

“Really?” Bailey lifted a brow and spoke on the phone. “Your Aunt Felicity is here. I believe we are due

for an argument, and I think you should call Artemis and ask him to come here. I'm afraid that Mrs.

Luther will faint from the argument, and I will be forced to send her to the hospital.”

“Bay, Aunt Felicity may have realized that she was wrong and is there to apologize. Do you really want

her to kneel and apologize to you?” Edmund asked.

Bailey shrugged and replied, “It depends on my mood. I'm hanging up. Bye.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up the call, Bailey threw her phone on the bed and strode out of her bedroom.

In the living room, Zayron was lying on the couch with a laptop by his side. He was so engrossed in his

game that he paid no heed to the incessant sounds of the ringing doorbell.

Bailey approached him and smacked the back of his head. “I thought you enjoy mocking others. What's

the matter with you today? Someone's offered herself and came all the way here, and yet you're right

here playing your games and ignoring her?”

Zayron pursed his lips and cleared his throat before answering, “If I were to answer the door, I would

have welcomed her with Hado and asked Hado to give her two vicious bites. Only then would I be

appeased.”

Bailey was rendered speechless.

The thing was, the boy was truly capable of something like that.

Bailey stood grounded for a few seconds. When the woman rang the doorbell for the fifth time, Bailey

finally went over to answer the door.

Felicity stood at the entrance with an expressionless face. Her right hand was still in the air as she

prepared to ring the doorbell one more time.

She was stumped for a few seconds at the sight of Bailey. Then, she turned her head to one side,

refusing to look Bailey in her eyes as she asked in a clipped tone, “Will you agree to perform the

surgery on Old Mr. Chivers if I apologize to you?”

Bailey raised a brow as a glint of surprise fleeted across her eyes.

So, Mrs. Luther is really here to... apologize? Wow, the sun is truly rising from the west.

“Even if you don't apologize to me, I will still perform the surgery on Old Mr. Chivers. I only proposed

the two options to agitate you.”

“You—” Felicity was enraged as she glared at Bailey. She gritted her teeth and snapped, “Are you

taking me for a fool?”

“Yes.” Bailey smiled triumphantly. “And you've taken the bait.”

Bailey jutted her chin at the elevator opposite her and said with a smile, “Please see yourself out of the

building, Mrs. Luther. I will perform the surgery on Old Mr. Chivers because I am indebted to him for

saving my life back then, not because of your attempted apology. So, get off your high horse and don't

ever assume that it has anything to do with you. Your presence, or the lack of it today, has no bearing

on my decision whatsoever.”

Felicity shook with rage at Bailey's remark.

How foolish of me to walk right into this wretched woman's trap and let her trample all over me! There

are so many specialists around. Why do I have to stoop so low to beg in front of this b*tch?

“Bailey, this business between you and me,” Felicity gestured and said, “is not finished.”

Bailey smiled in response and stated impassively, “I know that you were forced to be here today. I also

know that you feel really indignant about this. So, I do not expect that the discord between us will be

resolved any time soon. Besides, I'm not the naive and innocent type who could bear to smile in front of

the person who tries to lock me behind bars.”

Felicity threw a daggered look at Bailey and turned to head to the elevator. “Bailey, just you wait.”

“Sure,” Bailey mumbled as she eyed Felicity's back. A sense of helplessness washed over her.

This is not going anywhere.

“Mommy,” Susan said as she tugged at the corner of Bailey's shirt. She pursed her lips and said, “That

old woman has done so many bad things to you. You've even gone to jail because of her. Why didn't

you ask her to kneel and apologize to you?”

Bailey patted Susan on her head and said, “Susan, she is your grandma. Because of this, I can never

bring myself to castigate her, no matter what she has done.”

She let out a wry chuckle and continued, “Mrs. Luther isn't evil at all. Otherwise, she would not have

considered apologizing to someone younger than her whom she loathes. She just has a strong ego.

Mrs. Luther just has a steeper learning curve in becoming a more amiable person. You will never grow

close to her if I insist on her kneeling and apologizing to me.”

Susan reached out to hug her mother's leg and lifted her head to look at Bailey, her eyes filled with

nothing but awe for Bailey. “You are so kind and think through everything, Mommy. I want to be like you

when I grow up.”

Bailey smiled and shook her head.

Am I really kind and able to think things through?

Bailey knew that she did not wish to sow the seeds of hatred in her daughter's heart. Most importantly,

Bailey did not want Susan to hate her own grandmother.

If she were truly a kind-hearted woman as Susan thought she was, Bailey would not have brought up

the two choices to nettle Felicity. Hence, Bailey knew her daughter thought too highly of her. As a

matter of fact, Bailey did not wish to suffer the indignance without fighting back.

Meanwhile, in Maxton's bedroom in the Luther residence, Rhonda was fumbling through the boy's

everyday clothing.

The door was pushed open right then. It was Maxton. His face fell after noticing that Rhonda was

rummaging through his clothes.

“What are you doing in my room?”
