Chapter 10 Audrey The clock read 8:25 as I finally slid into my seat, coffee cup in hand. Tina slid in besideand dropped her bag on the floor between us with a dull thud "Goddess, I hate morning classes," the groaned pathetically, rubbing the dark circles under her eyes. "Don't these professors know that it would be better to hold all the classes later in the day?" I snorted. "Maybe you wouldn't have any problems waking up if you would stop scrolling on your phone until three in the morning" "Hey! That is my S.T.T.," she retorted. "I need it or else I'll go crazy." "STIF "Special Tina Time!" Shaking my head with a laugh, I returned my attention to my notebook-it was day three of classes, s, and tcouldn't possibly be moving any slower. But, things seemed to have at least been resolved betweenand Edwin, so that was a relief.
Or so I thought.
"Audrey Psst. Audrey." I lifted my head to see one of my classmates-Jenny-leaning towardwith a curious expression on her face, Several of her friends were crowded around her, and they were all looking atexpectantly. "What's up?" I asked, taking a sip of my coffee Jenny exchanged looks with her friends before leaning in a little closer, nodding her head toward the podium where Edwin was currently talking to another student. "What's the deal with him?" she whispered. "He always seems to stare at you, and I hear that he defended you in the application office...
My shoulders tensed despite myself and I nearly spat out my coffee.

I managed a shrug. "I don't think so. Maybe it was just because I'm his teaching assistant. I really don't I know- "Interesting "Jenny shota knowing look before returning to her friends and seemingly sharing the news. A moment later, a chorus of soft giggles and mutters reached my ears. I looked over at Tina with wide Tina grinned. "Ooh, Audrey, he's looking at you now," she cooed, leaning her head on my shoulder. "He wants you so bad, beautiful human girl." "Stop it," I groaned, showing her away playfully.
My friend merely shrugged. "Hey, it's possible," she said. "Besides... Maybe you two could have a secret romance. It'd be so sexy, just like in all those books I like to read I rolled my eyes. "That one night was a mistake. Now that I know him." I shook my head as my gaze fell on Edwin below. "...I would never date him "You're going to be practicing draping today, Edwin explained as he paced back and forth in front of the class going to put pictures up on the presentation board and I want you to achieve the slook with various fabrics. I also expect bulleted lists on each fabric, how it works up, and why With that, the students began to work at their assigned mannequins while Edwin and I walked around to instruct them. The room was blissfully quiet and peaceful, save for the occasional remark or conversation I preferred this lower level class over the lecture hall classes; it was more hands-on, less mindless grading and listening to lectures, and the students were typically younger with more stars in their eyes.
And besides, it was late in the afternoon on a Friday. After this class it would officially be the weekend, and I was exhausted.
As I meandered through the classroom, clutching my clipboard to my chest, I stopped at various stations to help students.
"Make sure to pleat the fabric at the top," I would say. Or: "Remember that the fabric needs weight. If it's not draping, try giving it more slack to see how it gets weighed down." One particular student, however, caught my eye: a young Heta with a shock of red hair, freckles across his nose, and bright green eyes. He was currently struggling with a strip of linen fabric that wouldn't seem to cooperate.
"Ugh." he finally groaned when the fabric slipped to the floor in a heap again, clearly frustrating him. "Professor, I need help." I glanced up to see that Edwin was currently busy with another student. He met my gaze and shotan affirmative nod, and I walked over to the student.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
The student shota wary look and shrugged as he continued to try and force the fabric into the right position. "It's not working. I don't know." I pursed my lips and eyed the fabric for a moment before seeing the root of the problem.
"Here's your issue," I said, reaching for the mannequin. "If you just move the fabric a little further over the shoulder-" "I said I needed the Professor's help, not yours!" the student growled as he smacked my hand away.

I scoffed, not even all that taken aback by this behavior-this was the sort of behavior that I had been enduring my entire life plenty of werewolves were subtle about their discrimination, opting for more inconspicuous methods such as letting a door fall in my face or not apologizing when they bumped into me. But werewolves like this existed, too. And I had encountered his kind plenty of times before.
Without missing a beat, I placed one hand on my hip and pulled my shoulders back taut
"That's no way to speak to the teaching assistant of this class. If you have a problem with me, you can bring it up with me, the Professor, or the dean outside of class-but you absolutely may not speak tothat way in class, and you had better not lay hands on me. Understood"" Usually, young werewolves like that would have blanched and gone quiet at my scolding, seeing that I wouldn't easily roll over and take that kind of treatment. But not this one.
"Ha. Teaching assistant," he echoed wryly. "Everyone knows that you slept with someone to get into that position anyway." He paused then, fixingwith a smirk before continuing. "Although I'm not sure who would be foolish enough to be charmed by a human."
Stunned, I opened my mouth but no words would come. By now half of the class was watching, waiting whispering amongst themselves. Meanwhile, the young Beta merely returned to his work, cursing under h as though he hadn't just said those words to me.
