Do you not want to be my mommy?
Angeline was taken aback upon hearing Floretta’s request, and for a moment, she did not know how to reply.
Since she was not Floretta’s birth mother, it seemed inappropriate for her to attend the parent-teacher conference.
However, she did not want to be the cause of Floretta’s sorrow.
Angeline contemplated for a while before she pulled Floretta to her and patted her head gently.
“Floretta, I can’t make this decision by myself. How about we wait for your daddy to return, and we shall discuss this
matter then?”
Floretta pursed her lips. There was a tinge of dissatisfaction in her large doe-like eyes.
“Why is Daddy so indecisive? He obviously likes you but doesn’t want to say anything. Don’t worry, Angel. He won’t
say no if I’m here.”
Angeline coughed awkwardly upon hearing Floretta’s words.
Floretta’s remarks were brutal and lethal.
In reality, Evander was not as calm as he tried to portray himself to be. He was someone who preferred to do
things discreetly.
“Floretta, do you not recognize your father after not seeing him for the past few days?”
Suddenly, a deep voice rang out from the living room.
Angeline turned toward the direction of the sound and was astonished when she saw Evander approaching them
slowly with his luggage.
Did we manifest his presence because we talked about him so much?
She immediately stood up and stared at him in confusion.
“Didn’t you say you still have to be abroad for a few more days for meetings?”
“They ended earlier than expected. I have instructed Sylas to handle the remaining matters,” Evander said.

“Daddy!”
When Floretta saw him, a bright smile replaced the look of disdain on her face. She extended her chubby arms and
charged toward him clumsily.
“I want a hug! I’ve missed you so much!”
Evander’s gaze softened, and he bent down to pick Floretta up from the ground with one arm.
“What a smart girl. Have you been obedient these few days?”
“I have! I even got first place in my exam…”
Floretta could not seem to stop once she started talking about school. Angeline shook her head helplessly. She left
them conversing with each other as she entered the kitchen to bring out dinner.
She only called for them when it was time to eat.
Evander carried Floretta over. When Angeline glanced at the abundance of sweet dishes on the dining table, she
felt a pang of guilt. She said apologetically, “I didn’t know you were coming back early, so I prepared dinner
according to Floretta’s tastes. I can make some simpler dishes for you if you’re not in a rush.”
“It’s all right. I’m fine with this.”
Evander carried Floretta to her chair and tied a bib around her with a gentle gaze. He seemed to be in a good
mood.
“You’re not a housekeeper. You don’t have to do this.”
Angeline was rendered speechless.
A wave of warmth streaked through her when she heard that. She knew Evander was serious.
“Wow!”
Floretta looked at their exchange. She seemed to have discovered a massive secret as she covered her mouth to
hide her smirk.
“Eat properly.” Evander glanced at Floretta calmly as his lips curled into an inconspicuous smile.
Angeline was about to feed Floretta when the latter snatched the spoon away. A smug smile was seen on her face.
“Angel, the teachers at school have taught me how to feed myself. Here, let me show you!”
Angeline and Evander exchanged glances and chuckled lightly.
“Sure, show us.”
Floretta picked two massive prawns off the plate in front of her as soon as she heard that. She was still not used to
using a fork, so she took her time placing them on Angeline’s and Evander’s plates.
Angeline clapped her hands in delight. “Floretta, you’re so smart!”
Floretta grinned in response. Then she grabbed Angeline’s hand and placed it on top of Evander’s.
“We’re a family now. I’m so happy!”
She sounded serious and sincere. It did not seem she was pretending when she was smiling this blissfully.
Angeline flushed as she immediately realized Floretta’s intentions. She could not help but grumble internally that
they had to be biologically related for them to be so crafty.
“I should consider changing schools for you, so you don’t let your imagination run wild all day. Is this what the
teachers teach you in school?”
Evander pretended to scold her and smacked the back of her head gently. However, mirth danced across his eyes.
Floretta felt aggrieved and replied seriously, “Of course not. The school invited the parents to attend the parent-
teacher conference. However, I only have Daddy but no mommy. I’ll be envious when I see my friends with their
families.”
One had to admit that Floretta was a talented actress.
When Angeline heard Floretta’s words, she furrowed her brows and felt slightly reluctant to reject her.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmHowever, Evander was already used to Floretta’s acting tactics, so he remained calm. After a long moment, he
finally asked, “When’s the parent-teacher conference?”
“There’s still ten days left!”
Floretta counted with her tiny fingers seriously.
“Then I’ll be there with Angeline when that time comes,” Evander promised her. Then he placed a Buffalo wing on
Floretta’s plate.
Upon hearing Evander’s statement, Floretta cheered in delight. She raised her head and beamed happily.
“That means Angel is my mommy from then on.”
“No.” Angeline was shocked by her words. “Don’t speak nonsense, Floretta. Come, let’s eat.”
As she placed vegetables on her plate, she sheepishly lowered her head to hide the awkwardness in her eyes.
However, it aligned with her intentions when Evander said she should attend Floretta’s parent-teacher conference.
She feared it would negatively impact Floretta’s childhood if the latter were perceived as a single-parent child
among her peers.
After dinner, Evander and Floretta went upstairs. He had bought some toys for her when he was overseas.
Angeline went upstairs after helping Francesca clean the table. She spotted Floretta in Evander’s arms as they
assembled the toys.
Evander’s movements were deft as he played with the toy parts and taught Floretta how to assemble them
patiently.
Angeline leaned against the door and watched them for a while, and her eyes danced with delight.
Although Evander was a busy man, she realized he had always been a caring father to Floretta.
Suddenly, she wished time would stop at this precious moment.
If not for the complicated past, she did not mind spending the rest of her life with them.
“Angel, look at the bag Daddy bought for me! Is it pretty?”
Floretta noticed her first. She blinked and held out a furry bag that looked like a bunny with a bright smile.
