Just as she hesitated, there was a knock on the door. Then Bernard's loud voice called from the doorway. “Ella,
Lorenzo wants you in the study.”

But Bernard didn’t realize how annoyed she felt and kept shouting. “Ella? Mrs. Moretti?” When Ella didn’t
respond, he switched to “Mrs. Moretti.”
That address really got on Ella’s nerves. She flung the door open and slapped Bernard right across the face.

edge.
Bernard didn’t get mad at Ella for her outburst. Instead, he looked at her with sympathy. He cleared his throat
and said, “Lorenzo wants to see you in his study.”
“What for?” Ella huffed, annoyed. She was trying her best to avoid meeting Lorenzo.
Listening to Stephani’s doubts over the phone and hearing how Lorenzo’s people referred to her made her
anxious. They might actually believe that all her previous antics with Lorenzo were out of genuine affection-
attempts to attract him.
The main problem was that after everything that had happened, no one would believe her even if she tried to
explain or deny it.
“Just so you know, I'm not into playing nurse or serving coffee,” Ella said dismissively. She thought doing those
things only led to trouble, so she decided to be completely “useless.”
“No, don’t worry about any of that. You just need to know how to play cute,” Bernard replied.
Ella was taken aback. ‘What the hell?’
Bernard realized he had let it slip and quickly explained, “Oh no, that’s not what | meant.”
‘Play cute in front of Lorenzo? Seriously?‘ Ella was at a loss for words. Not wanting to deal with Bernard anymore,
she went straight to the study. Since Lorenzo wanted to meet her, she felt she couldn't just refuse.
