Jack peered through the glass at Mandy, her face still pale, with a whirlpool of
mixed emotions in his eyes.
It was the first time he realized how dangerous Mandy’s previous life had

Jack had never known just how agonizing waiting could be.
Though the doctor and the nurses were constantly moving, it felt like only a
few minutes had passed.
“How could this happen?”
Seeing the attending doctor frown, Jack’s anxiety grew. His gaze clung
desperately to Mandy, fearing that he might miss some ominous change if he
looked away even for a second.
His footsteps unintentionally led him to the door of the hospital room, longing
to be by her side.
A nurse blocked his attempt to rush into the room, explaining patiently, “Her
injury is internal, so such complications are expected. We’ll do our utmost to
stabilize her.”
Yet Jack remained uneasy.
He didn’t want to stand passively outside, watching her pale face as she was
being resurrected on the bed.
He just wanted to be closer to her.
Suddenly, Jack said, “If I wear sterile clothing, can I go in and see her? I just
want to be closer to her. Maybe it would lift her spirits…”
