“Take it easy!” Gavin said, chuckling and raising an eyebrow, “It’s no biggie. Just that on Friday night, Emily escorted
you upstairs and some folks saw it. They started making a fuss, slandering Emily, throwing dirt on her name.”
Charlie’s eyes hardened, “Chad?”
Gavin nodded, “Most likely.”
Charlie put away the document in his hand and stood up, heading for the door, “I’m going to Paragon Pixel Design!”
After a few steps, he paused as if remembering something. He turned to Gavin, “You handle this.”
Gavin teased, “What, don’t want Emily to know you’re standing up for her?”

Gavin chuckled, “Alright, I’ll go. Even if I have to tear down Paragon Pixel Design, I’ll protect Emily. And my job!”
“Quit stalling, get going!” Charlie frowned.
Gavin could tell Charlie was worried. He felt a pang of sympathy for the guy, who couldn’t even openly show his
affection.
With a meaningful sigh, Gavin turned and left.
Ron had been out all day and was unaware of the rumors about Emily. It wasn’t until his assistant called to say
Gavin had arrived that he hurried back.
“Mr. Gavin!” Ron exclaimed, obviously anxious. “If I had known you were coming, I wouldn’t have kept you waiting!”
Gavin gave a faint smile, “I heard Emily’s gotten into some trouble. Thought I’d drop by.”
“What trouble?” Ron looked confused.
His assistant quickly relayed the rumors circulating about Emily.
Ron’s expression altered dramatically, “Where did these rumors come from? Have you looked into it?”
His assistant squirmed uncomfortably, saying nothing.
Gavin spoke up, his voice indifferent, “Only a handful of people attended the party that night. Shouldn’t be too hard
to figure out who started this.”
Ron nodded immediately, “You’re right. I’ll look into this personally. In the meantime, Mr. Gavin, please have some
coffee. I’ll report back to you shortly”
“Do make it quick. Mr. James is waiting for my news. Gavin’s tone was friendly, but his words carried an air of
authority, “This matter could have serious consequences. It involves Emily and tarnishes Mr. James’s reputation. I

Ron smiled apologetically and then left the room.
It wasn’t difficult for Ron to track down. He asked Chad’s assistant to the meeting room. A little bit of pressure and
the assistant spilled the beans.
It was Chad who Feared that Emily might be promoted to chief designer by the James Group. And that night he
happened to catch sight of Emily’s getting upstairs, so he had his assistant spread rumors that Emily was using
sexual favors to win over clients.
This kind of gossip was a sensitive topic which was easy to intrigue people. So it soon spread throughout the design
department.
Ron summoned Chad to the meeting room. He gave him a piece of his mind, berating him severely.
“You’ve lost your mind? Doing something so stupid! Can’t you see that Mr. James has a soft spot for Emily? I have
no idea how you managed to become a senior designer!”
