Chapter 1734

“The elevator’s here, go ahead and bye!” Allen said goodbye to Emily in a

familiar tone.

“See you tomorrow!” Emily waved her hand, and then she followed the crowd

into the elevator.

Once they left the office building, Gavin paused for a moment before turning

back to Emily, “Emily, ride in my car!”

Emily shook her head, “No, thanks. I’ll take our deputy director’s car!”

Charlie hesitated for a moment before getting into his car.

Gavin got into the car, glancing at Charlie’s tense profile, and he casually

remarked, “Emily might be trying to avoid any misunderstandings by keeping

her distance. Don’t overthink it.”

Charlie gave him a brief, indifferent glance, “Keeping a distance is the right

approach. But don’t be too friendly when you meet her in the future. We don’t

want people to assume that she’s chosen just because of personal connections

when, in fact, her design is excellent.”

Gavin raised an eyebrow, grinning, “We’re the clients, and we can choose

whomever we want. I doubt anyone would dare to criticize our decision. Mr.

James, you seem unusually cautious! It’s not your usual style!”

Charlie’s heart skipped a beat as a rare flicker of irritation crossed his handsome

face, “You’ve been quite talkative lately. There’s a new project with InnovateHub

Inc. in Megaton City. Maybe I should send you there?”

Gavin immediately shut up, focusing on driving, and not dare to provoke the

evidently irritated any further!

Ron had booked a private room at Harmony Haven Hotel. Once inside, Charlie

naturally took the main seat, while Ron deliberately gestured for Emily to sit next

to him. Emily knew that based on her qualifications and status, she shouldn’t be

sitting in that position. She politely declined and took a seat next to Cedric

instead.

Across from them were Chad and his assistant.

Charlie noticed Emily deliberately maintained her distance from him, his eyes

lost a bit of their luster, and there was a mocking smirk at the corner of his lips.

Ron, who had seen Charlie come to support Emily that day, assumed their

relationship was extraordinary.

However, seeing that they appeared distant now, he couldn’t quite understand

the situation.

The dinner began, and Ron spared no effort in flattering Charlie, continuously

toasting him.

Gavin, who was sitting on the side, noticed Charlie had already consumed three

or four glasses of wine, and knowing that Charlie had already attended a

luncheon earlier that day, he was at risk of getting too drunk. So, he quickly

stepped in to fend off a couple of drinks for Charlie.

Cedric, who was not fond of social events, usually left such matters to Ron. He

turned to Emily and whispered, “Your design concept is good, but there might be

some construction issues. Do you have the drafts with you?

Let me take another look.”

“I do!” Emily hastily took out her design drafts and handed them to Cedric.

Cedric took a closer look at Emily’s design, pointing at the sailboat’s sail, “The

material is fine, but achieving the level of detail you’ve designed might be quite

challenging.”

Emily was in high spirits when mentioned about her designs, and she chuckled,

“I’ve thought about that, so I added a curve here. Take a look at this last sketch,

it’s the design details of the sail’s”

The two of them quietly discussed the design drafts, not participating in the

jokes and laughter of the others.

Charlie was staring at Emily whose expressions shifting between deep thought

and exciternent. His mind was in chaos, and for a moment, he forgot to look

away.

Gavin moved closer and whispered, “I’ve checked Cedric. He’s forty-three years

old and has a good reputation in the industry. He is a man of integrity, and has a

strong relationship with his wife. He won’t have any motives toward Emily”

Charlie glanced at him, “Talkative!”

Gavin chuckled, “Right, right, I forgot again!”

Ron suddenly spoke up, “Emily, Mr. James used to be your boss, and now he’s

your client. You should come over and toast to him.

Emily was still lost in her design. She lifted her head in surprise. Her dazed

expression made Charlie’s heart skip a beat.

He felt that he might have had too much drinks today!

“Why are you standing there? Come and raise a toast!” Ron gestured to Emily.

Emily had no choice but to get up, walk over to Charlie and casually said, ‘Mr.

James, this one’s for you!”

Charlie lifted his glass and drained it in one gulp.
