Chapter 266

lan’s hands froze, his gaze involuntarily shifting toward the window. Yup, Maja was standing by the

roadside.

Maja’s brows knitted together like she was in a heated phone call. It seemed like she was dealing with

some kind of problem.

A crowd had gathered around the bar behind her, cops weaving through them, occasionally stopping

anyone attempting to snap a picture.

The bar was cordoned off.

lan asked Jeff, “What’s going down at this bar?”

Jeff hadn’t expected the question but made a call to find out.

A minute later, he hung up and answered lan.

“There was a homicide. Someone died of alcohol intoxication on the spot.”

But what’s this got to do with Penny? Why was she here?

Tyler had been sitting next to lan, noticing how he’d stopped working and began staring out the window

when Penny’s name was mentioned.

Maja was on the phone with a hospital and was clueless that lan’s car was parked right before her.

lan watched her through the car window, his thoughts straying back to Gerber, whom he’d bumped into

at the bar entrance.

He looked away, his face impassive.

“Let’s hit the road; we have a meeting to attend.”

Tyler had thought lan had a soft spot for Penny, given their past intimacy and that time he’d kissed her

in front of everyone.

Compared to his wholesome relationship with Carlene, his relationship with Maja was clearly more

ambiguous.

However, despite knowing that Maja might be in trouble, he seemed indifferent.

Tyler chuckled and looked away.

“lan, I’ve always been curious. Did you ever reminisce about that night with Penny?”

lan had been going through some documents, but upon hearing this, his fingers stiffened, and he

stopped.

As they drove past Tyler’s mansion, lan’s voice was cold, “Get out.”

Tyler shrugged, still joking as he got out of the car.

“You’re not a little boy anymore; can’t handle a little adult talk? They say once a man tastes the joys of

love, he’s hooked. As a workaholic like you, once you’ve tasted a woman, can you really go back to

burying yourself in work?”

All Tyler got in response was the sound of the car door closing.

Jeff, in the front, pretended not to hear Tyler’s words. Tyler was a scriptwriter; he was always frank

about love affairs, even more direct than most.

Or to be more accurate, he was forthright.

After all, most men talked about women, just like Tyler.

If the woman didn’t come from a prominent family, she’d be in for a rough time.

Men could be ruthless to the women they no longer loved but who still loved them.

In the business world, many have lost their humanity to adapt to the trends of the times.

Moreover, women’s standing in business was far from equal to men’s. As harsh as it sounds, it’s the

reality.

During his three years overseas, especially his time on Wall Street, lan witnessed the bullying of

women in the workplace.

Age, marital status, and even refusing inappropriate advances could be used as reasons to deny a

woman a job.

lan was all about work and never took part in choosing girlfriends, so nobody ever asked him these

kinds of questions.

The car became quiet, his laptop still sitting on his lap.

He’d stopped browsing, and the laptop had gone into sleep mode.

In this peaceful atmosphere, he could feel something unusual about himself.

Tyler’s question had brought his thoughts back to that night.

Or maybe not that night, but the time she’d been wearing a nightgown, exposing a large expanse of

smooth skin.

And that tempting chest hidden under the fabric threatened to overturn his sanity.
