Chapter 183
Lindy arrived quickly, and as soon as they met, she began with an apology. “I’m sorry, it’s all my fault
for leaving our esteemed guests waiting like this.”
Gillian smiled proudly, accepting Lindy’s apology. Initially, Lindy was just being polite, but she had not
expected Gillian to be so audacious. She felt the smile on her lips fade a bit, and if it weren’t for Olivia,
she would have surely kicked Gillian and her group out. What an audacious bunch! After sitting down,
Lindy asked the butler to prepare coffee and then turned her attention to Gillian, asking, “Miss Dale,
you called me over in such a hurry. Is there something you’d like to discuss?”
Gillian spoke as she played with her phone strap, “I have come to apologize to you, Mr. Patterson.”
“Apologize?” Lindy blinked in surprise and personally received the coffee from her butler, placing it in
front of Gillian. She did not do the same for Healix and Lindsay. The butler handled that.
After Gillian received the coffee and placed it on the table, she leaned in slightly, looking apologetic.
“Earlier, at the herb garden, I saw Olivia picking medicinal herbs from your residence without any
consideration. I’m truly sorry for this, Mrs. Patterson, and I apologize on her behalf.” So, it was about
that. It was not a big deal to Lindy, and she chuckled. “No need to apologize. She’s free to pick herbs
from the garden.”
“No, no.” Gillian waved her hand and continued, adopting a somewhat helpless tone. “Please don’t
indulge her too much just because of the Smith family’s reputation. Mrs. Patterson.”
Lindy paused, her hand holding the cup still. Something about this did not sound right.
Gillian continued, saying, “Olivia was adopted by my grandfather. She was well–behaved when she
was younger, but as she grew older, her temperament deteriorated. Unfortunately, my grandfather
spoils her, allowing her to cause trouble outside in the name of the Smith family.”
As she spoke, Gillian’s tone became stern, saying, “Our family upholds a proper reputation, We cannot
tolerate any actions that might tarnish it. Mrs. Patterson, you don’t have to show her so much favoritism
just because of me.”

Lindy put down her coffee, looking more seriously at Gillian. “Miss Dale, do you have a
misunderstanding?”
“It’s not a misunderstanding.” Gillian looked disgusted and continued to speak, “Ciivia has always been
like this. She frequently goes to prominent families, leveraging our grandfather’s reputation, and
demanding attention from others. In the past, our grandfather indulged her, allowing her to do as she
pleased. But now, I run the family, and I will not tolerate such behavior.”
At the end of her speech, Gillian’s tone became even more resolute. “Mrs. Patterson, I urge you to
send Olivia away and give her a lesson.”
Upon hearing this, Lindy was dumbfounded, unable to speak for a moment. She was stunned for a
while and then asked in bewilderment, “Do you two have some kind of grudge?”
Grudge? Gillian furrowed her brows, concerned that Lindy might perceive her as too severe. She
quickly explained, “It’s not that there’s a grudge between us. It’s just that her actions have been so
disappointing! After our grandfather fell ill, she delayed visiting for a whole half month, and as soon as
she returned home, she started vying for the head position of the family.”
Gillian paused and blushed slightly. “These are all family matters and should not be aired in public.
However, Olivia’s actions have gone too far. I believe that if our grandfather were to wake up now, he
would certainly expel her from the family!”
After listening to all this, Lindy finally understood. It turned out that Gillian and Olivia did not get along
well. If that was the case, she had no reason to be concerned. Lindy reclined on the sofa, no longer
treating the group with the same respect and caution as before.
However, she needed to confirm it to get a clearer picture of the situation. Ignoring Gillian and her
group as if they did not exist, Lindy called the two servants who were taking care of Olivia right away
and inquired about the conversation between Gillian and Olivia at the herb garden.
Lindsay did not notice Lindy’s change in attitude and only saw her making a phone call, mentioning
Olivia’s name. She was thrilled. She turned to Gillian, stifling her laughter as she covered her lips,
saying, “Gillian, did you see that? Mrs. Patterson is going to send her away.”
Gillian was satisfied with Lindy’s response, but unlike Lindsay, she didn’t want to appear too joyful. So,
she furrowed her brows and partly
sincerely said, “Mrs. Patterson, there’s no need to rush. Let her stay one

more night and then ask her to leave tomorrow.” She spoke with a tone as if she were bestowing a
favor.
Upon hearing Gillian, Lindy glanced at her, not saying a word.
While Lindy had devoted most of her attention to her son for many years and rarely attended social
events and banquets, her long–standing experience as a society lady meant that she could not
completely avoid certain occasions. She could discern some of Gillian’s thoughts. But the more she
understood, the more she disapproved.
Isaac was still alive, and yet Gillian was eager to seize power and even slander Olivia who had grown
up with her. Her character was indeed questionable.
After finding out from the servants about the conversation between Olivia and Gillian, Lindy had a clear
understanding of the two women’s relationship. At this point, it was unlikely that they could reconcile in
the future. So, there was no need to tolerate Gillian for the sake of Olivia
anymore.
Lindy waved her hand and said, “Miss Dale, Mr. and Miss Smith, it’s getting late. Please, you should
leave now. I won’t detain you any longer.” With that, she stood up and left without giving them an extra
second.
Lindsay was utterly dumbfounded, her eyes wide. What just happened? Weren’t Lindy supposed to
kick Olivia out? Why were they being told to leave?
Gillian’s phone slipped from her hand and fell onto the sofa as her eyes. registered a shocking surprise.
She looked at Lindy’s unwavering departure in disbelief, her mind buzzing and blank. Why did things
turn out this way? Why did Lindy suddenly change her mind?

Meanwhile, Healix was also surprised, but he was not paying much attention to the current situation.
Instead, he turned to Lindsay and asked, “Did you encounter Olivia in the herb garden just now?”
When Gillian and Lindsay had returned earlier, they had asked to meet with Lindy without mentioning
Olivia’s presence. Healix had only just learned about this incident.
Lindsay pouted, not understanding why her grandfather was so
concerned about Olivia. He had always been like this, making her learn from Olivia and follow her
orders.
“Yeah, we met her in the herb garden, and she was even picking herbs from the Patterson family
without any manners,” Lindsay said and added

with exaggeration, “Grandfather, you have no idea. Her attitude was outrageous. She even said you
should come and see her!”
At this point, Lindsay could not help but sneer. “Who does she think she is, ordering you around like
this? This is…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Healix cut her off with an angry outburst. “Enough! Why didn’t
you tell me about this earlier?”
Healix was absolutely infuriated. Lately, there had been a rumor circulating in Layfield that the
Patterson family had brought in a renowned doctor to treat Anthony, and there had been significant
improvements in his health. When Healix first heard the rumor, he did not pay it much attention. It was
only now, coupled with Lindy’s attitude, that he finally realized the truth.
The so–called renowned doctor that the Patterson family invited was none other than Olivia! Moreover,
Lindy’s previous respect and favor towards Gillian were not because of the Smith family but because of
Olivia’s influence. This could explain why Lindy’s demeanor changed when Gillian requested Olivia’s
removal. Gillian, Healix, and Lindsay had misunderstood the entire situation and now karma hit them
hard!
