Chapter 152

The atmosphere grew thick with tension.

Hailey gave a quiet hum, her voice steady but cold. “I don’t like you anymore.”

100%

As soon as the words left her mouth, the line went dead. Hailey glanced at her phone, realizing the call had

ended abruptly.

She sank back onto the sofa, letting out a weary sigh. Her gaze shifted to the two meals in front of her. With a

resigned frown, she decided to turn her frustration into appetite, finishing both orders in one sitting.

A knock echoed through the room after tossing the empty containers into the trash.

Hailey rose and went to the door, only to find a man standing there, his eyes cold as ice, his lips pressed tightly

together. There was a hint of red at the corners of his eyes.

The man’s gaze locked onto hers, and in the split second she hesitated, he was already inside, pulling her tightly

into his

arms.

“Owen,” she murmured, her hand instinctively pushing against his chest as she frowned. “What are you doing

here? Didn't | tell you? | don’t like you anymore.”

He remained silent, his expression clouded with anger and frustration.

Without a word, he swept her in his arms, carrying her straight to the bedroom.

Hailey’s heart skipped a beat as panic set in. She looked at his handsprofile, her hands pushing against him

in a flurry. “Calm down, Owen!”

But Owen didn’t respond. Having ruled the business world for years, he was a man used to control, and the

patience and gentleness he had once shown Hailey had worn thin.

Now, hearing her declare she no longer liked him, it was something he couldn't accept.

His dominant nature flared up instantly, and he knew he had to make her understand. Owen thought, ‘Whether

she or not, she would always be mine.”

With a stoic expression, he reached out, gripping her chin firmly. His voice was ice cold. “I'm perfectly calm.”

Hailey bit her lip, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

But her vulnerable, helpless appearance didn’t stir any sympathy in him.

Hailey could tell now that Owen was completely furious.

Without a word, he lowered his head and kissed her roughly, as though he was desperate to claim every part of

her. Owen thought, “This isn’t right!”

Hailey gathered every ounce of strength and pushed Owen away, retreating to the other side of the bed. Her

gaze stayed sharp, her chest rising and falling as she breathed deeply. “Owen, don’t makehate you.”

For a moment, his expression faltered, and then his gaze turned cold, as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice

water over him.

Owen stood at the edge of the bed, his eyes cold as he stared at her. He lifted a hand, rubbing his temples to

understand everything. He thought, ‘How did things end up like this?"

‘Can a person change so much just from losing their memory? We used to be so sweet and in love, but now,

distant. And | can’t do anything about it.”

‘If | wanted, | could use any means necessary to keep her by my side. Hallon City is my territory-no one could

take her from me. But that’s not what | want. | want mutual love, two hearts in sync, not just my obsession.

Owen stood at the edge of the bed, his tall, lean figure imposing and still, his expression serious and unreadable.

His dark eyes were intense, betraying nothing of what he was thinking.

Hailey swallowed nervously, biting her lip as she watched him, her thoughts racing. After a long pause, she

finally spoke, her voice steady but firm. “We can be friends, or even like siblings, but we can’t be lovers.”

At her words, Owen lifted his gaze to her, a slight, amused smile tugging at his lips. “I think we could be... friends

with benefits,” he said casually.

Hailey’s eyes widened in disbelief, her face flushing as she stared at him. It was hard to believe those words

cfrom Owen, who usually exuded calm and sophistication.

After a moment, her cheeks burning with embarrassment and frustration, she snapped, “How can you be so

shameless?”

Owen shrugged nonchalantly, his tone cool as ever. “There are worse things. Want to try them?”

Hailey thought, ‘What a joke!"

Hailey cursed inwardly, her fingers trembling in anger. “Get out!” she demanded, her voice sharp.

But Owen paid no mind to her outburst. He casually shrugged off his suit jacket, tossed it onto the bed, and

turned to leave the room.

Hailey stood there, momentarily bewildered by his actions. Barefoot, she climbed out of bed and followed him.

Owen moved effortlessly, heading straight to her fridge. He rifled through it, pulling out singredients before

strolling into the kitchen as if he belonged there.

Hailey could hardly believe it. She thought, “This arrogant man is making himself at home, cooking in my

kitchen!”

Owen made himself a bowl of pasta, fried an egg, and cooked svegetables.

Hailey leaned against the wall, watching him with a dark expression, her gaze fixed on his every move.

Owen placed a plate of pasta on the table and, noticing her presence, casually asked, “Do you want some?”

Hailey stared at him, her expression conflicted as the delicious aroma of the meal filled the air.

She thought, ‘How did he cook this pasta? It smells even better than Raphael's. Good thing | ate a lot this

morning; I'm not hungry at all. Otherwise, I'd be drooling right now.”

She met his gaze briefly, her face cold, before turning and heading toward the bedroom. With a quiet click, she

locked the door behind her.

The two of them went about their separate tasks for the next hour. Hailey eventually emerged from her room,

fully dressed and ready to leave.

Owen was working in the living room. Hearing the sound of the door, he glanced up, raising an eyebrow. “Going

out?”

Hailey ignored him, grabbed her keys and bag, and headed for the door.

Owen didn’t seem bothered by her coldness. Seeing she was leaving, he followed her without a second thought.

Now losing her patience, Hailey snapped, “Why are you following me? Don’t you have anything better to do?”

He shrugged slightly, his tone casual. “I do, but following you is more important.”

Hailey let out a frustrated sigh, quickening her pace. She hadn't expected him to be this annoying.

Hailey had just moved here, and since she didn’t have her car yet, she had to rely on taxis for transportation.

As she stepped out of her building, she spotted a luxury car parked outside-there was no doubt it was Owen's.

She thought, ‘He couldn't leave his luxury car behind and hop into a taxi with me.

With that thought, Hailey immediately started running-her feet pounding the pavement like she was in a race.

Owen watched as she darted off, shaking his head with a sigh. He climbed into the car and started the engine.

He thought, ‘She’s definitely more energetic these days, but is she getting clumsy too? There’s no way her legs

can keep up with my car.”

Hailey ran to the neighborhood entrance, just as she was reaching out to hail a taxi, when Owen's car pulled up

slowly in front of her.

The window rolled down, and his gaze, cool and distant, locked on her. “Get in, I'll give you a ride.”

Hailey stubbornly shook her head. “No thanks, I'll take a cab.”

“If you're not too embarrassed, | could always carry you to the car.”

Hailey quickly scanned her surroundings. A few people were passing by-not a crowd, but enough to make her

uncomfortable. To avoid any awkwardness, she promptly decided and pulled open the car door.

Owen smirked, started the car, and asked, “Where to?”

Hailey muttered the nof a cafe, clearly frustrated. She thought, ‘Why does it feel like he hascon ely

under his control?’

Owen turned the car around and headed toward the cafe.
