Chapter 2001
The receptionist, seeing the commotion, quickly stepped in, “Madam, you can’t just barge in here.”
Tessa, red–faced with anger, pushed past the receptionist, attempting to storm through the turnstile, but it wouldn’t
budge.
The receptionist, unable to stop her, called out loudly for security.
Two guards approached one on either side and hoisted Tessa up, ready to escort her out of the building.
Struggling in vain, Tessa saw she was about to be thrown out and shouted, “I’m Ivy’s mother. My daughter Ivy has
connections with your CEO. If you toss me out like this, the CEO won’t let you off the hook.”

As fate would have it, Nolan was just returning to the office.
He had planned to ignore the ruckus in the lobby, but when he heard the woman claim to be Ivy’s mother, Nolan
couldn’t help but stop.
“Let her go,” Nolan approached with a hint of a smile, “Madam, did you just say you’re Ivy’s mother?”
Tessa rubbed her sore arm and sized up the man before her, “Yes, I’m Ivy’s mother. And who might you be?”
“I’m the CEO of Harris Group, the very person you’re looking for.”
Hearing that the man before her was the CEO of Harris Group, Tessa’s face performed an extraordinary volte–face,
plastering on a smile, “Mr. Harris, it’s you. I’m Ivy’s mother, and I came to inquire about Ivy’s well–being.”
Though Nolan wasn’t quite sure why Tessa came to him about Ivy, he courteously led her to his office out of respect
for her being Ivy’s mother.
“Please, take a seat,” he offered, pouring her a glass of water, “What would you like to know about Ivy?”
Tessa glanced around the opulent office, her aspiration clear in her eyes.
Most importantly, being treated so cordially by the CEO of such a large company made her feel like she was on top
of the world.
This was the first time in her life she’d been treated this way, and it felt incredible.
“I’ve been calling her, and she won’t answer. Knowing she knew you, I had no choice but to come here,” Tessa said,
a tinge of resentment coloring her words about Ivy, “She really knows how to worry a person.”
In her tone, Nolan sensed Tessa’s dissatisfaction with Ivy.
He wasn’t privy to the details of Ivy’s family life, but it seemed there was more to the story.

“Ivy’s been quite busy lately, and she might have missed your calls. How about I call her over?”
Tessa, realizing Nolan held special regard for Ivy, smiled and nodded in agreement.
Nolan dialed Ivy then and there, and the phone connected quickly, “Hello, Ivy, are you free right now?”
“Nolan, what’s up?” Ivy was busy at her computer, applying for jobs.
Nolan glanced at Tessa, who was sitting across from him, “Your mother’s at my office. She said she’s been trying to
reach you and couldn’t.”
“What?” Upon hearing that Tessa had gone to the Harris Group, Ivy dropped what she was doing, shocked, “She
went to your place?”
