Chapter 858

Colton's cold, emotionless words sent goosebumps all over Tony.

In response, Tony quickly shook his head and let out a hollow laugh. "No, no! Ah! That's right, I need to attend to

something. I'm off!" As soon as he finished talking, he scampered away.

As he watched Tony's figure recede into the distance, Colton leaned back in his chair with an unfocused expression,

and his gaze then shifted to the computer screen. Later, he averted his gaze and focused on tidying up his files on

the table.

When Nicole woke up, she felt a delicate body resting in the crook of her arm. Then, she opened her eyes groggily

to discover her son had snuggled up beside her. She was unaware that Hayden had entered the room.

The child had already awoken, and he opened his eyes while his mother pondered when he crept into the bed.

Then, he whined like a pampered, lovable child, "Mom!"

"Mm… When did you get in here?" Nicole inquired with a slightly hoarse voice. Afterward, she extended her arm,

embraced the child, and gave him two gentle pats.

At that moment, Hayden yawned as he squirmed inadvertently into her embrace. Then, in a slightly upset tone, he

complained, "It was thundering in the middle of the night. You were sleeping so soundly that you did not move or

even notice that I had entered the room."

When she heard that, she carried him out of bed and drew back the curtains in the room. Even though the sun was

shining, she could see puddles of rainwater in some hidden places on the ground and confirmed that it did rain that

night.

Then, she stretched out her hand and rubbed her eyes. I attended a dinner party at the Gould Residence yesterday

and returned home late. After taking off my makeup and cleaning up, I notice that it is almost midnight. So, I go to

bed, and I'm out as soon as my head hits the pillow. No wonder I didn't hear the thunder.

Nicole hugged Hayden and apologetically asked, "Oh, I'm sorry, and it's my fault. However, when were you afraid of

thunder?" Nevertheless, she recalled her son had always been fearless, and she had no idea when he became

afraid of thunder.

"I'm not afraid of thunder, but it was so noisy outside! I couldn't sleep, but I eventually did after I snuggled up next

to you, Mom!" He buried his head in Nicole's arms and pouted.

"Alright." She chuckled and continued, "From now on, whenever it rains or thunders, I'll sleep by your side."

Suddenly, she had a hunch that he was not acting like himself that day, but she could not pinpoint the reason.

Soon, after getting dressed, Nicole carried Hayden down the stairs. At that moment, Zachary lounged on the sofa

by the French windows, which had a sheer curtain drawn across them. As the sunlight streamed in and shone on

him, he appeared draped in tulle. After a heavy downpour, the sun's rays were not scorching but soothing and

comforting.

He looked at ease as he flipped through a magazine while sipping coffee. After hearing footsteps on the stairs, he

set his coffee down and turned his head toward the stairwell. When he saw her, he smiled and gently teased her,

"I'm surprised you're awake. It's only a few minutes past 10.00AM. I expect you to wake up at noon."

She blushed at the comment, touched her face, and admitted, "I'm used to how comfortable home is. It's been a

long time since I last felt so tired. I must have slept longer than usual because of the exhaustion that washed over

me."

"Mm, you should have a good rest then." Zachary nodded as his eyes fell back to the magazine in his hand.

Meanwhile, Nicole could tell by the aroma wafting through the air that he had already finished cooking. So, she

proceeded to the kitchen to get food for both her and Hayden. He sat in front of her and nibbled at his food, but

she could sense that the distracted child had something on his mind.
