So, after passing the orange to Nadine, he jumped up and down in place, cheering her on and shouting, "Mommy, you have to do your best! We must cin first place!" The teacher had explained that only families who won five events consecutively would receive the special prize. Because of this, Sean snuck a call to Brad using his smartwatch last night. "Daddy, no matter what, you have to join tomorrow's competition and helpwin." It had only been over two weeks since they'd last seen each other. But Brad found himself missing Sean, even knowing he wasn't his biological son. The moment Sean asked for help, Brad wanted to say yes.
But to make that stubborn Nadine lower her noble head, he held back his longing for Sean and responded coldly. "What's in it forif I help you win?" In truth, Brad was overjoyed. Nadine might be heartless, but Sean wasn't. Despite their tapart, Sean still remembered Brad. It was much more than Nadine would ever do. He couldn't help but wonder if her heart was just stone-cold.
Sean patted his chest and made a promise. "If you helpwin, I'll make Mommy treat you to a meal. I know you're divorced, and Mommy doesn't want to see you. But I can at least make this happen." This was an offer too tempting for Brad to resist. Without a second thought, he agreed. "It's a deal." They'd already planned over the phone for Brad to show up just on time. So even if Nadine had objections, she wouldn't be able to make@ scene in front of everyone. As for the events that Sean had signed up for, those had all been chosen after consulting with Brad.
Watching Nadine slowly walk toward Brad with no urgency at all, Sean grew anxious and shouted, "Mommy, hurry up! If we lose, I won't get anything! My sweet mommy, please helpwin this competition." Sean's shouts pulled Nadine back to reality and helped her calm down. Looking at Brad who she was now in front of, hearing Sean's pleas, and seeing his eager little eyes, Nadine's love for Sean won. She decided to give in to Brad.
After all, it was just for a moment. Once the event was over, she wouldn't have to acknowledge Brad again.

Facing Brad's smug face, Nadine gritted her teeth and asked "Could you please bend down a bit?"
At six feet two, he towered over her.
Trying to pass the orange to him from her neck wasn't m went down easy. Unless to lower his height, Nadine's efforts would be useless, barely reaching his chin at best.
If Nadine tried that, the orange would fall, forcing them to start over and wasting time. That would only disappoint Sean.
