Chapter 415 Absent-minded
Three days later
Michael slowly opened his eyes, taking in the familiar sight of the hospital room ceiling.
That ssterile smell.
He guessed he was in a hospital room, the pain in his body making it hard to move. He winced, feeling every
ache.
From the window, Mason's voice broke the silence, filled with disdain.
"You're one lucky guy."
Michael managed a weak smile, seeing Mason looking down at him. He replied, "Grandpa, I'm sorry for worrying
you again."
Mason waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to argue. "Just be grateful you're alive. The rest, we'll deal with
later. You're recovering well, just sbruises. Rest up, and you'll be fine. Don't worry about the company. I'll
handle things with Andrew on leave.
"I've arranged for a caregiver to take care of you here. Once you're discharged, you'll go back to the Smith
Mansion. The staff there will make sure you're well taken care of." Mason spoke for a while, not mentioning
Michael's divorce or Emily. Michael was surprised and wanted to ask, but couldn't find the words.
Mason knew what Michael was thinking. He had been through it himself and understood all too well.
But since those feelings were now useless, it was better to bury them deep inside.
Mason continued, "Alright, I'm heading to the office. If you don't wantto fall apart, get better soon. Then take

"Oh, and the caregiver will be here soon. Anything you need, just tell them. I've arranged everything."
With that, Mason got up, leaning on his cane to leave.
Michael couldn't hold back any longer. He tried to move his stiff limbs, pain shooting through him. He called out,
"Grandpa, have you heard from Emily these past few days?"
How could he not?
Mason had Andrew pass on the message about Michael's car accident. He thought Emily might cto see
Michael, but she didn't.
Emily only called to ask about Mason, showing no concern for Michael.
Mason saw Emily's resolve and gave up. But with Emily pregnant, he couldn't just do nothing.
So, under Mason's insistence, Emily accepted $5 million in alimony and a vacant villa in Emerald City, on the
condition that Michael wouldn't know.
Mason knew Emily wanted no further contact with Michael.
After that, Mason stopped contacting Emily, unaware of her whereabouts.
Thinking of this, Mason replied to Michael, "No. You're divorced. Why would | contact her?"
Mason felt a surge of frustration and added, "You brought this on yourself! Focus on getting better! Don't make
With a final word, Mason left, closing the door behind him, leaving Michael in silence.
Mason's words left Michael speechless, a mix of emotions swirling inside him.

"Emily, what do you think?"
“Emily?”
"Emily, are you still there?"
"Emily!" Abigail's shout snapped Emily back to reality.
Seeing Abigail pointing at the computer screen, Emily quickly put on her headset and responded to Penelope on
the video call.
"Ms. Blair, I'm here."
Penelope took a deep breath, then spoke to the other partners on the call before they logged off, leaving just her
and Emily.
"Emily, what's going on with you lately? You've been distracted. This was an important meeting, and you zoned
out three times in an hour. Are you feeling okay?"
Emily felt guilty. She wasn't herself today, but couldn't explain why. "I'm really sorry, Ms. Blair. It's my fault. I'll do
better next time."
Penelope couldn't be too harsh. She had begged Emily to cback to work, and Emily was pregnant. "It's okay.
I'll handle the partners. Just write up the meeting notes and work on the proposal."

But she couldn't help but remind, "Emily, if you're tired, rest. Don't stay up late. I've seen you working late into
the night, and most of it isn't relevant to our current project."
Realizing she was too stern, Penelope softened her tone and eased up a bit before hanging up.
She had to consider the company's future but also cared for Emily, her favorite employee.

bed early these days. Have you been staying up working? You're pregnant, and your due date is soon. Why are
you working so hard?"
Emily knew all this but couldn't help herself. Keeping busy was the only way to avoid thinking about Michael.
She knew her situation was both pathetic and laughable. If Abigail knew, she'd probably mock her.
With a resigned smile, Emily said, "I'm fine. Maybe it's just pregnancy insomnia. Don't worry about me, Abigail.
I'm really okay."
Abigail still looked worried. "Are you sure?"
Emily nodded with a smile.
Seeing this, Abigail smiled back. She was about to leave when Emily's phone lit up on the table.
Both women looked at the screen, seeing the nthat made Abigail gasp-Michael. Abigail turned to Emily.
"Why is he calling again? Do you wantto answer? | can tell him off."
Emily wanted to let Abigail handle it, but something stopped her. She picked up the phone and answered it
herself.
‘Maybe this is the last tI'd follow my heart," Emily thought.
