Chapter 147
Harvey's prediction was spot on. Gunner wanted a son, but he also cared about his reputation. He went to
comfort Ravenna, and about an hour later, he was back
in the private room.
"Where's Veronica?"
The room was silent. This time, they were all on Veronica's side, feeling that Gunner had gone too far. He could
even accept a woman like Ravenna.
Gunner sensed something was off from the looks on everyone's faces, and he blurted out, "Did Veronica leave?"
Harvey responded indifferently. "She left with Riley."
It was common knowledge that Riley was wooing Veronica. Now that Veronica was angry and alone with Riley, it
was not hard to predict what would happen next.
Gunner turned pale, looking visibly upset. He started to frantically dial Veronica's number. Her phone was off. He
cursed in frustration, then started calling Riley. This time, it went through.
Then the sounds of a man and woman making love cthrough the phone.
It was so suggestive. Just by listening, one could tell how heated things were.
Gunner gripped the phone tightly, "Riley, put Veronica on the phone."
Riley, panting heavily and sounding very pleased, handed the phone to Veronica, "Gunner's call."
Veronica, also panting, responded, "What's up, Gunner?"
The room was dead silent.
Gunner smashed his phone. He dashed out like a madman, ready to confront Riley.

Eloise wanted to follow him, but Harvey stopped her. He said indifferently, "Why the rush? Riley's there. Besides,
they're bound to break up over this, isn't that what you wanted?"
In the end, Eloise didn't chase after them. Maybe Harvey was right. It was good that Veronica and Gunner's
relationship ended here, and a little scene might be good for a change.
She didn't stick around, grabbed her coat and stepped out of the room. This time, Harvey didn't stop her, but
followed her out, stopping Eloise at the parking lot.
Eloise was already sitting in her car. Harvey gently knocked on the window. She rolled it down and politely asked,
"Is there anything else, Attorney Horigan?"
Harvey quietly looked at her. His voice was a bit hoarse, "Ms. Laurent, would you like to grab a drink if you're
free?"
Eloise stared straight ahead. After a while, she turned her head and gave a small smile, "I'd rather not.
Goodnight, Attorney Horigan."
She finished speaking, rolled up her window, and slowly drove away. Harvey didn't insist. In fact, he didn't really
intend to spend the night with her. He had simply been drawn to her, feeling a strong connection and a desire to
embrace her. The feeling was just like when he had first met her. The passion and excitement hadn't diminished
one bit.
Earlier in the room, he asked Eloise if she ever thought of him at night. Eloise didn't answer. He knew she must
have.
Because he did, too. So much so that it hurt.
Eloise drove home. As soon as she parked the car, the first thing she did was call Veronica. Her phone was on
now, and Veronica seemed nonchalant.
Gunner somehow found the hotel. He got into a fight with Riley and even threatened to kill him. But Riley's
family wasn't to be trifled with, Gunner couldn't lay a finger on him.
Veronica was in high spirits, "Eloise, I'll never forget the look on Gunner's face, haha, it was priceless, absolutely
priceless."
As she spoke, she gritted her teeth in anger. "So only he can fall for sone else? I, Veronica, have many
suitors."
Even though her words were harsh, Eloise knew the pain she was feeling inside.
Eloise asked softly, "Where are you? I'll cget you."
Veronica's voice was a bit hoarse, "I'm at the police station."
Eloise started the car and headed for the police station.
Gunner and Riley ended up being like cats and dogs, fighting tooth and nail. Seeing this, Eloise couldn't help but
admire Riley. The price of this battle was not small.
Gunner was like a defeated rooster, not happy at all about having a son. He was covered in bruises and his eyes
were so gloomy it was frightening. He looked at Veronica, but never harmed her.
Riley kept provoking him, and Gunner sneered, "You can only be arrogant for a while. In the end, Veronica will
still be mine, right?"
Eloise was speechless at Gunner's attitude. She turned to Veronica, who lit a cigarette, looking a bit down. She
gave Riley a signal, "You go first."
Riley got the message. They would have plenty of opportunities to meet in the future. Riley straightened his
clothes and left first.
Gunner's eyes were red as he interrogated Veronica, "Where did all our years of feelings go?"
Veronica walked down the steps, her tone cold. She looked at Gunner, and said word by word, "Our feelings over
the years are now worthless. Gunner, however you treat me, I'll treat you the same, that's only fair."
Gunner fell silent. After a long while, he suddenly said, "Veronica, let's start over." Veronica stiffened slightly.
She gave a small laugh, "You decide how to handle what comes next, Gunner. But askingto love you with all
my heart like before, that's impossible. Gunner, you forcedto do this. Once was enough, but you made me
endure it over and over. Now I'll let you taste your own medicine."

She paused, then added, "Riley's pretty good in bed."
Gunner was about to lose his mind. He started smashing things in the police station, and ended up being held
overnight.
Eloise took Veronica to her car. Once settled, she handed Veronica a cup of water, "Are you okay?"
With the car light on, Veronica's face was as pale as a ghost. She and Riley teamed up to give Gunner a taste of
his own medicine, but they both ended up licking their wounds. Still, she didn't regret it.
In a soft voice, Veronica said, "We've ctoo far to turn back now. | won't be the one to call it quits. | won't
give Ravenna the satisfaction."
Their situation was a hot mess and Eloise didn't know how to comfort her. She asked softly, "What about Riley?
What's he saying?"
Veronica's eyes turned misty.
"If it was before, | could've married into the Colman family. But there's no way that's happening now. They're
wealthy and influential family, they'd never let Riley marry someone like me."
Eloise gently touched her face.
"I think you're awesome. Especially when you're telling someone off." Veronica cracked a smile. "Lettell you,
Riley is pretty good at having sex, and he's satisfiedmore than once."
Her conversation was getting a little too R-rated and Elois hurriedly rolled up the car window. If someone heard
them, how could they show their faces! Just then, a refined voice cfrom outside the window, laced with a
hint of amusement. "Is that Ms. Laurent and Ms. Veronica? I'm Callum, Riley's cousin."
Eloise shot Veronica a look. Crap! This cousin Callum must have heard everything.
Callum, in his thirties, was well-educated and served as a lecturer at the
university, also holding the position of vice-dean. He gazed at Eloise with a touch of admiration in his eyes and
spoke in a gentle tone." heard you were talking about Riley, so | thought I'd ask."
