Chapter 54

The morning sunlight slowly spread across the room. Doris slowly opened her drowsy eyes and saw a handsome

face just inches away.

She was nestled comfortably in Lewis's arms, her hands tightly wrapped around his lean waist. Startled, she

quickly withdrew her hands and scrambled out of Lewis's embrace.

“Why... why are you in my bed?” Doris stammered in shock.

While she was flustered, Lewis appeared unusually calm. “Take a good look at whose room this is,” he said.

Doris glanced around carefully, realizing with a start that she was indeed in Lewis's bedroom. Feeling guilty, she

mumbled, “How... how did | end up in your bed? | was on the couch, wasn't I?”

The last thing she remembered was watching TV in the living room and gradually feeling drowsy. She knew she

must have fallen asleep there, but she had no idea how she ended up waking in Lewis's bed.

“Maybe you were sleepwalking,” Lewis replied nonchalantly, now fully awake as he lazily sat up.

“Sleepwalking?” Doris frowned. “I’ve never sleepwalked before.”

“Just because you didn’t use to sleepwalk doesn’t mean you don’t now,” Lewis reasoned seriously. “The fatigue

from handling your part-tjob lately might have caused you to start sleepwalking.”

Doris was skeptical yet didn’t know how to refute it. She glanced at Lewis cautiously.

His soft hair fell messily over his forehead, giving him an air of relaxed sensuality. Without his usual sharpness,

he seemed approachable for once.

His deep eyes, smooth skin, and thin lips were stunning, and Doris couldn't help but be captivated.

While she was lost in thought, Lewis got out of bed. Watching his broad back, she asked, her face flushing red,

“I... 1 didn’t do anything, did I?”

Lewis turned around with a faint smirk. “What could you possibly do? Take advantage of me?”

“That... that’s nonsense!” Doris’s face turned bright red as she stammered. “You're a man, and I’m a woman.

Obviously, I'm the one at a disadvantage here!”

Her flustered and bashful reaction was so adorable that Lewis couldn't resist teasing her further. “You were the

one clinging tojust now, weren't you?” he asked.

“I was asleep! | didn’t know anything!” replied Doris.

Lewis slowly stepped toward her. “Doris, you slept with me, and now you're trying to play dumb after the fact?”

Doris retreated step by step until her back pressed against the wardrobe. “I didn’t do anything to you!” she

protested, a mix of innocence and frustration in her tone. “Stop talking nonsense!”

“Should | help you remember?” Lewis leaned in, one hand braced against the wardrobe behind her.

His chiseled features were inches away, and his piercing eyes locked onto hers. His thin lips were dangerously

close, as if about to touch hers. His masculine charm was so overpowering that it made her heart race.

“Stop, stop, stop!” Doris hurriedly covered his mouth with her hand, blocking his approach.

Their

eyes met, and the tension was palpable. To Doris’s horror, she felt the light brush of his tongue against her soft

palm.

Her eyes widened, and her mind went completely blank. The spot where he touched seemed to ignite, a fire

spreading through her nerves.

Panicked, flustered, and shy, Doris turned her back to Lewis and said, “I was wrong! | shouldn't have

sleepwalked! You could've just thrownout and letsleep on the couch!

Lewis's chest pressed against her back. He lowered his head, and his magnetic, seductive voice sounded beside

her ear. “The couch? Are you trying to make sure your sister catches us sleeping in separate rooms?”

Doris sighed inwardly, thinking it was a real hassle. “Can you back up a little? | can’t breathe,” she pleaded

pitifully, not even daring to take a deep breath.

Lewis's lips curled slightly, his eyes gleaming with a mischievous light. He was doing it on purpose, giving Doris a

taste of her own medicine, so that she dared to mess with him again after this.

“So that’s all you've got,” Lewis taunted.

Sharing a bed with Doris last night had cost him a good night's sleep. He hadn’t managed to fall into a proper

slumber until the second half of the night, so he'd missed his usual morning jog.

Checking the time, he decided it was late enough and finally backed off. After all, he’d accomplished his goal of

teaching Doris a lesson.

With long strides, Lewis headed to the bathroom to freshen up. As soon as he moved away, Doris’s taut nerves

relaxed, and her legs gave out. She grabbed onto the wardrobe for support to keep herself from sliding to the

floor.

Taking several deep breaths, she felt her lungs slowly cback to life. Without wasting another second, she

darted out of Lewis's bedroom and returned to her own room, only to find her bed perfectly made and Laura

already gone.

Doris hurried to the living room, where she heard Laura calling out, “Doris, breakfast is ready. Go get Lewis to

ceat.”

Doris ruffled her hair in frustration. “Laura, this isn’t the Webb family home. You can sleep in; you don’t have to

go out of your way to make breakfast for us.”

Laura smiled, looking much more refreshed. “I already feel bad enough imposing on you two. Besides, I'm used

to cooking breakfast. If | don’t, something feels off.”

“Alright, I'll go wash up first,” replied Doris.

Before long, both Lewis and Doris cto the living room after getting ready.

Doris couldn't help but marvel again-Lewis looked incredible in a simple white shirt and black dress pants. Crisp

and sharp, he had an air of understated elegance, and his long legs were absolutely unmatched.

Laura had prepared pancakes with syrup, scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, buttered toast, and a bowl of fresh fruit

to round out the meal.

“I just threw together a few things. | hope it suits your tastes,” she said.

“Wow! You made my favorite-buttered toast and crispy bacon. Laura, you're the best,” Doris-exclaimed,

practically drooling as her eyes lit up.

She tore the buttered toast into small pieces, pairing them with crispy bacon for a perfect balance of flavors.

The buttery crunch and savory richness of the bacon filled her mouth, creating a combination so delicious it was

almost addictive.

Lewis found Doris’s blissful expression exaggerated. He was about to take a bite of his pancake when Doris held

out a piece of bacon on a fork and offered it to him. “Want to give it a try?”

Lewis hesitated. Greasy foods weren't exactly his thing, and his eyes showed a hint of refusal.

“It’s really good,” Doris insisted earnestly, her eyes full of anticipation.

Lewis took a bite of his pancake and replied calmly, “I'll stick with this. You enjoy it.”

“It's just one bite! It's not like it'll hurt you,” Doris pouted, her voice softening into a playful whine. She genuinely

wanted him to taste something she loved.

Laura watched the affectionate scene unfold with a smile before lowering her head to continue her breakfast.

Cornered, Lewis relented and took the bite Doris offered.

“How is it? Isn't it good?” Doris asked, her eyes sparkling with eagerness for his approval.

“It's alright,” Lewis said nonchalantly. He sticks to a strict diet because he works out regularly.

“Just alright?” Doris frowned in disbelief. “You have no appreciation for good food.” She turned her attention back

to her breakfast, eating contentedly.

Three seconds later, she suddenly froze, staring at the fork she was holding, and then glanced at Lewis sitting

beside her.

‘Wait... We used the sfork just now. Isn’t that... an indirect kiss?’ she wondered.

She silently lowered her head, praying that Lewis hadn't realized it.
