Chapter 228 Sorry, | Don’t
Have A Phone
Of course, Hadley might have been knitting for herself, yet Eric sensed that wasn’t the case.
Whose could it be, then?
Hadley offered a tender smile. “Are you interrogating me?”
Retrieving the bag from his grip, she spoke with a breezy tone. “Really, who else would | be knitting for but you?”
“For me?” Eric echoed, his voice laced with surprise.
He stared in disbelief. “Me?”
“Yes,” Hadley answered, taking the yarn out of the bag to examine it more closely. “I intend to knit a sweater for
you. This amount should suffice.”
While talking, she measured the yarn against him.
A brief moment of bewilderment washed over Eric before he questioned, “This... fiery red?”
“Is there an issue with that?”
Hadley’s expression turned to a slight pout. “It’s an excellent color! You're always dressed in black and white -too
monotonous for someone your age.”
Pleased with her selection, she continued, “Such a bold color suits a man of your charm.”
Indeed, it was a compliment.
Hadley had just complimented his appearance!
Eric's eyebrows lifted as he couldn't hold back a grin, quickly agreeing. “I believe you're right.”
Reassessing the fiery red yarn, it now held a new allure.
He stroked the yarn, noting its texture. “This is quite soft.”
“Exactly.” Hadley confirmed. “It'll be very cozy once I've knitted it into a sweater.”
She then playfully slapped his hand away. “Don’t mess it up; you'll make it dirty.”
“Stingy,” Eric teased, pulling his hand back with a smile. “Okay, | won't touch it anymore. But I'll be the one
wearing it in the end.”
His spirits lifted. Since he couldn't fiddle with the yarn, he decided to hold Hadley’s hand instead.
“Why did you decide to knita sweater?”

Hadley gestured towards her wristwatch. “You gavethis lovely watch. | don’t have much, so | thought a
sweater might be a nice gesture. It’s not as grand as your gift, but please don’t hold it against me.”
“What are you talking about?” Eric interrupted her, his smile broadening as he gazed down at her. “Hold it
against you? Why would I? | absolutely love it. I'll wear it with pride.”
In that instant, his look and smile radiated nothing but honesty.
Caught off guard for a moment, Hadley quickly withdrew her hand. “Alright. I'll get it done quickly.”
“Sure.”
Just then, a waiter appeared, bringing their ordered dishes to the table.
As he placed food on her plate, Eric casually inquired, “What would you like to do after dinner?”
“Hmm?” Hadley seemed confused by his question.
“Maybe sshopping, or perhaps buy something you need?”
Hadley declined. “No need for shopping or buying anything for me.”
“Right.”
Eric remembered then. Shopping was never really Hadley’s thing.
He paused, thinking, and then suggested another idea, “What about a movie?”
This suggestion seemed to startle Hadley, who looked at him with wide eyes.
Feeling slightly awkward under her stare, Eric explained, “Isn’t that what couples usually do? We've never
actually gone to a movie together.”
He grabbed his phone as he spoke. “Letbook the tickets right now.”
Launching the movie ticket app, Eric handed the phone to Hadley. “Choose any movie you'd like to see.”
His eagerness to make her happy was apparent.
After scanning the options, Hadley selected a comedy. “Let's watch this one.”
“Got it.”
Once they left Winterley Restaurant, they headed to a cinema nearby.
Despite it being a weekday evening, the cinema was bustling with people, and a long line snaked from the
ticket booth.
“Stay here,” Eric suggested as he gestured towards the crowd. “I'll go get our tickets.”
“Sure.”
Hadley watched as he made his way to the counter, his presence turning heads due to his noticeable height and
distinctive appearance.
“He's so tall!”

“And very attractive too!”
“Is he by himself?”
“Does that good-looking man not have a partner?”
As Eric secured the tickets, he noticed a small group had formed around him, which he promptly ignored.
“Excuse me!”
One bold young woman stepped forward to engage him.
Eric, slightly confused, responded, “Yes?”
Visibly nervous, the girl held up her phone. “I'm sorry to intrude, but could | have your number?”
It dawned on Eric that she was hitting on him.
He dismissed her smoothly. “Sorry, | don’t have a phone. Excuse me, | need to get back to my girlfriend.”
As he said this, he gestured towards Hadley and hurried over to her.
The woman who had approached him was visibly disappointed...
Naturally, such a handsman would be taken.
“I'm here!”
“Pfft!”
Hadley couldn't help herself and burst out laughing.
“What's so funny?” Eric looked puzzled. “Is it me?”
“Yes, it’s you!” Hadley was still chuckling. “You, you just said... you didn’t have a phone? Haha...”
She had overheard everything. “Eric, maybe next tcup with a more convincing excuse. Everyone has a
phone nowadays.”
Eric said, “It worked, didn’t it? It makes it clear I'm not interested.”
Indeed, his response might have been effective, but also too blunt.
“See how loyal | am, and it makes you laugh.”
He wrapped an arm around her and gestured toward a nearby vendor. “How about ssnacks?”
Girls nearby clutched bags of popcorn.
“No, thank you.” Hadley frowned. “They're loaded with calories, and I'm trying to stay mindful of that.”
But then, her expression softened.

“Maybe just a cotton candy?” She lifted a finger. “Only one.
“Sure.” Eric laughed, playfully tussling her hair. “I'll grab one for you.”
“Great!”

Together, they walked over to the vendor, hands intertwined.
Confronted with a myriad of cotton candy choices, Hadley paused, dazzled.
“Which one would you like?”
“Um...” Hadley pointed. “That one.”
“Got it.”
“Wait!” She quickly changed her mind, gesturing at a different flavor. “Actually, let's try this one.”
Yet, she kept glancing back at her first choice.
Her hesitation brought a smile to Eric's face. “Don’t stress. Just pick whichever you like.”
Eric then instructed the vendor, “We'll take one of each, please.”
“Sure thing!”
Just as Eric was about to pay, Hadley interjected, “Hey! That's too much sugar for me!”
“Don’t worry about it.” Eric reassured her, completing the purchase.
He handed her the cotton candy.
“Here you go. If you don’t finish them, I'll help you out,” he said, offering both sticks to her.
“Alright then,” Hadley replied, taking the cotton candy with a soft smile that slowly brightened her features. Eric
watched her, momentarily lost in thought. That smile of hers-he hadn't seen it so freely before.
The movie started.
They found the film amusing; Hadley seemed quite taken with it, while Eric found his attention wandering back
to her more often than the screen.
Suddenly, his phone buzzed.
Checking the caller ID, Eric hesitated but decided to ignore the call.
After a moment, he sent a quick text, saying, “For any issues, please coordinate with Ernest directly.”
