Chapter 700

The leader of the group exchanged glances with the others, and their guard dropped slightly, “Turns out it’s Ms.

Dustin.”

One of them pulled out a business card, “Ms. Dustin, good to see you. Five years ago, Mr. Salter hired us to clean

the house once a week.”

“Today is our weekly cleaning day. We didn’t expect you to be here. Our apologies.”

Brittany took the card and glanced at it. They were from a high-end housekeeping service in Imperial City. Their

reputation was stellar.

“Mr. Salter?” Brittany hesitated; were they referring to Isaac?

“Yes, Mr. Isaac.”

“Ms. Dustin, since you’re back, we can come back another day.”

“It’s pouring outside. It would be inconvenient for you to leave. Stay here.”

The rain would have made the journey back to Imperial City dangerous.

They hesitated for a moment, but Brittany insisted that they could clean the next day before leaving, so they

agreed.

Daniel, having eaten his fill, was playing by the window when he spotted Isaac sprawled in a puddle. He sprang up,

flung open the door, and rushed out into the

rain.

“Daniel!”

Brittany remembered the sight of Isaac lying in the puddle and massaged her temple. She had been careless.

“Ms. Dustin, there seems to be a man lying outside…” one of the men ventured.

“Bring him in, and get Daniel cleaned up.”

Through the window, Brittany could see Daniel standing vigil over Isaac. His small face was wet with either rain or

tears, looking pitiful and innocent.

She had issues with Isaac, but he was still Daniel’s father. She didn’t want to damage her relationship with Daniel.

With her instructions, the men nodded, “All right.”

Brittany didn’t want to face Isaac. So, she went upstairs.

Isaac was brought inside. Two of the men took him upstairs, removed his wet clothes, placed him in the bathtub,

and after cleaning him up, dressed him in fresh pajamas.

Daniel, after taking another bath and changing into warm clothes, refused to return to his room, opting to stay by

Isaac’s bedside instead.

The older man, seemingly the leader of the group, advised, “Young master, it’s late. You should return to your room

and rest.”

Daniel refused. He stared at Isaac and asked, “Will Daddy get sick?”

The man wasn’t sure either. After drinking and getting soaked in the rain, Isaac’s health was in question.

Daniel lay by the bedside, delicately holding Isaac’s hand, refusing to move an inch.

The man, unable to persuade Daniel, covered him with a blanket and left.

Brittany spent the whole night tossing and turning.

Her mind was filled with thoughts of her grandmother. Isaac intermittently crossed her mind, sparking a fleeting,

unexplainable emotion.

By late night, the rain grew heavier. The sound of raindrops hitting the banana leaves outside, despite the barrier of

the glass window, was loud and disruptive.

Brittany got up, went downstairs, and brewed a cup of coffee. As she was carrying the coffee upstairs, she heard

Daniel’s scream.

“Daniel!” Brittany, thinking something had happened, dropped her cup. The sound of the shattering glass resonated

through the room.

She quickly pushed the bedroom door open.

Seeing Brittany, Daniel stumbled off the bed like he had seen a lifesaver, “Mom, dad has a fever; he’s really hot!”

Brittany was pulled to the bedside. Isaac, lying on the bed, felt extremely hot. His handsome face was flushed, his

hair was damp and sticking to his scalp. His lips were dry as well. He appeared to be in the throes of a high fever.

“Mom, what do we do?” Daniel choked, “Is Dad going to be okay?”

Daniel sobbed and continued, “Mom, please find a doctor to save Dad…”.

Brittany didn’t want to help Isaac, but Daniel’s sobbing was too heartbreaking. She rubbed her temples.

After a moment, she finally relented.
