Chapter 838
“I really miss Mom…Ahh, Daddy, let go of me!”
Daniel was showering Brittany with kisses when, mid-sentence, Isaac scooped him up. “Enough
smooching, let go of your mom!”
Over the past few months, Daniel had grown quite a bit, but he was still no match for the absolute force
that was his father.
Pouting, he flailed his legs. “Mommy, save me!”
Daddy could be so petty. He hadn’t seen Mommy in months, and what was so wrong with a little
affection?
Brittany never expected Isaac to be jealous of his own son. She shot him a look that clearly said, “Give
it a rest.”
Isaac felt a pang of softness at her gaze and set Daniel down, letting them embrace and whisper to
each other, murmuring things he couldn’t quite catch.
Back at home, Daniel clung to Brittany, even through dinner, not willing to leave her side. He insisted
she stay with him even through his bath time.
Isaac had had enough. “Daniel Salter!”
Daniel sensed the storm brewing and pouted.
He hopped off the couch, “Then Daddy can bathe with me.”

Isaac stood up, leading Daniel upstairs.
In the bathroom, Daniel quickly stripped down and stared pointedly at Isaac. “Daddy, where’s my little
sister?”
He’d been gone for months. Why hadn’t his sister arrived yet?
Isaac was momentarily speechless. “Not yet.”
Daniel looked stricken. After a long pause, he said, “Daddy, are you… is it because…”
His eyes, far too solemn for his age, landed on Isaac. “Is it… because you’re not well?”
He had overheard Grace saying many couples couldn’t have kids because of health problems.
Isaac nearly lost his temper at his son’s words, squatting down to his level. “Don’t talk nonsense. Your
mom and I aren’t remarried yet, and we need to wait a bit longer for your sister.”

He and Brittany had been careful for two reasons.
First, they hadn’t officially remarried.
Second, they were both at the peak of their careers and simply didn’t have the time to care for a
newborn.
Daniel looked disappointed, settling into the tub to wash up on his own, ‘Daddy, you better hurry up.
Mommy’s in high demand!”
Isaac chuckled softly. “I know.”-
After bathing, Daniel obediently went to bed.
Brittany had already retreated to her room to rest.
After his shower, Isaac cuddled up to her, getting cozy for quite a while before he was about to head to
sleep.
Suddenly, the urgent ring of the phone cut through the quiet.
Isaac answered the call. Emily’s panicked voice came through, “Master Isaac, it’s terrible, Grace has
coughed up blood and is in the hospital!”
Brittany, half-asleep, was jolted by the sound, sitting up to meet Isaac’s shocked eyes.
“I’ll be right there,” Isaac said.
Isaac hung up and got out of bed. “Grandma is in the hospital; I need to go.”
Brittany couldn’t just sit there. “I’m coming too.”
“Alright.”
Brittany dressed quickly and followed Isaac out the door.
On the way, Isaac was unusually silent, a sorrow Brittany could almost smell emanating from him.
For
years, Grace had been the only elder Isaac could truly rely on.

The sudden news of her illness had thrown him off balance, leaving him quiet and withdrawn.
Brittany sat in the passenger seat, her own worry growing.
Arriving at the hospital.
Noel, in his pajamas, sat in the hallway. Seeing them, he rushed over. “Bro, Brittany, you’re here.”
“What happened?” Isaac asked.
Brittany’s breath quickened. “She was fine, how could she just fall ill?”

“I came home to have dinner with Grandma, and she was fine before we went to bed,” Noel’s eyes
reddened uncontrollably, “but then I heard noise in the middle of the night, and she had already
collapsed.”
Noel was still young, and Grace’s condition had him rattled. “Bro, is Grandma going to die?”
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Brittany said, taking his hand. “Grandma has always been healthy; she’ll be fine.
Don’t worry.”
Noel’s lips quivered.
“What exactly happened? How could she suddenly faint?” Manuel and Leda had arrived.
Manuel didn’t hold back his concern and immediately questioned, “Isaac, is this how you take care of
your grandma? She’s nearly lost her life, and you didn’t even inform me.”
