Chapter 704 The First Peculiar Poison
After watching Rhonda leave the ward, Clarence handed the bottle containing the poison in his hand to his butler
beside him—Zayn.
“Do you know what to do?”
Zayn nodded and replied, “Yes.”
Half an hour later, Bailey and Artemis arrived at the Jefferson residence.
Bailey asked the driver to pull over when the car reached the gate.
Glancing at her with narrowed eyes, Artemis frowned and asked, “Are you planning to walk inside? Listen to me. It's
cold and windy outside. Driving to the main entrance is better so that you don't catch a cold.”
Tilting her head and looking at him with a grin, Bailey said, “Artemis, I grew up at this place. Don't you want to carry
me and walk down the path I always took?'
The corner of Artemis' lips twitched. He was about to say no, but he sighed in resignation after seeing the
anticipated look on her face.
“Fine. Did I ever say no to anything you asked? I know you are hurting yourself by doing so, but I still couldn't bear
to reject you.”
After saying that, he opened the door and got off.
Bailey's lips curled into a smile.
How nice it is to have him in my world.
Despite the freezing winter, she never felt cold with him by her side.
The door beside her opened, and Artemis crouched before her. “Come on. I'll carry you inside.”
A smile hung on Bailey's face as she leaned forward and rested her body on his back.
Holding her firmly in place, Artemis walked over to the intricately-carved door.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtCrisp crunches sounded as his shoes dug into the layer of thin snow. With snowflakes falling from above his head, a
silvery scene appeared before his eyes.
“Artemis, do you know? I walked down this path countless times. This was my home, where I could rely the most,
but I never felt I belonged here. Tormenting loneliness and helplessness was all I could feel when I stood here
underneath the infinite sky back then. However, things are different now. Despite the winter months, I feel all warm
when you are next to me.”
Artemis' pace gradually slowed. He stopped in his tracks and turned around to inch closer to her face.
Bailey grinned faintly, leaned over, and kissed his cheek. “A reward for you. Keep walking.”
As Artemis continued walking, a deep, rich voice resonated in the snow.
“I was only focused on expanding the business to make Luther Group the largest corporation in the world back
then. I lived like a zombie every single day. After I met you, only I realized one could live such a wonderful life.”
Resting her head on his shoulder, Bailey responded with a light chuckle, “Artemis, thank you for showing up in my
life. You are the best part of it, and I hope it will stay wonderful like this forever.”
Tilting his head to look at her, Artemis promised, “It will. I'm sure we'll stay by each other's side forever.”
His remark made Bailey giggle.
Meanwhile, Rhonda stood on the stairs at a gazebo in the distance, staring silently at the intimate couple in the
snow. Her hands on her side slowly clenched into fists.
The poison was called “Soul Reaper.”
As the name suggested, no one could escape from a Grim Reaper coming from hell to claim one's soul.
If Bailey got poisoned by it, I bet she can't save herself even if she is the miracle doctor—Anonymous.
What mattered more was that there was no antidote for the poison.
It was rumored that the Yablon family—a prestigious family specializing in drugs—developed the world's first
peculiar poison. A poisoner from the family refined the poison.
There was no antidote for the poison whose composition had been long lost.
To put it simply, anyone who got poisoned would surely die.
Oh, Bailey. I have been struggling in sinful hell for so long. There's neither hope nor anyone on my side. I am so
lonely, so you better suffer with me.
Bailey walked into the ward at the infirmary under Zayn's lead.
Sorrow rose in her heart when she saw the stick-thin body on the bed.
Although the Jefferson family was not as affluent as the Luther family, they were still one of the prestigious families
in Hallsbay.
If he had known his place and didn't do those bad things to me, he wouldn't have ended up like this today.
Cough! Cough!
A violent coughing sound sliced through the ward as Clarence stiffly opened his eyes.
The moment he saw Bailey, he was slightly stunned. After recollecting himself, he joyfully said, “B-Bay, you're
back.”
After barely speaking a few words, he coughed so hard that he couldn't catch his breath.
Sighing silently, Bailey walked over and pricked the back of his neck several times with a needle.
His coughing stopped the next second, making him look at her in surprise. “Bay, is my disease under control now?”
Bailey bobbed her head and stated, “No, I only suppress the coughing because it's too loud and annoys me. You're
on the brink of death, and even God can't save you.”
Clarence couldn't help but smile bitterly, shook his head, and said, “How naive of me. I have one foot in the grave
but still dread my death. Forget it. I am already contented that you're willing to visit me during my final moments.
Bay, does it mean you forgave me?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBailey gave him a cold look. Her face was void of expressions while her gaze was frosty.
“What's the point of forgiving? The damage has already been done. The world will remind us even if we forget
about it, so stop deceiving yourself. I came today not because I forgave you. Instead, I want to put an end to
everything in the past. Otherwise, I'll have to live with the guilt all my life.”
After finishing her words, she bowed low at him, saying calmly, “Thank you for taking care of me for eighteen
years, Mr. Jefferson. I came today to spend your final moments with you because of our father and daughter bond.
If there is such a thing as a next lifetime, I hope we never get entangled with each other and be strangers.”
The joy on Clarence's face gradually faded.
I can't believe I've raised an ingrate after caring for her for many years. Initially, I was still hesitating about whether
to poison her. However, seeing her cold look now, I'm sure Zozo and Ronni will live a hard life if I let her live. I must
do something in my last moments and help my two daughters get rid of her.
“Fine. Regardless, I hurt you and don't deserve your forgiveness. Since I'm on the verge of dying, can you have a
drink with me?”
Narrowing her eyes and staring into his silently, Bailey tried to read his mind from his gaze.
However, his pupils were as calm as stagnant water. Aside from seeing her reflection, she couldn't tell what he was
thinking.
“What's wrong? Can't you even do me one last favor?”
Glancing at him, Bailey sighed silently and ordered Zayn at the side, “Bring us a bottle of wine.”
The worst she could think of was him poisoning her drink. In fact, she was not afraid at all.
There is no poison in the world I couldn't neutralize, except—no way. The poison has been lost for many years. I
couldn't find it anywhere after searching for a long time. With his capabilities, there is no way he could get it.
“Mr. Jefferson, Ms. Bailey, here's your wine,” said Zayn as he poured the liquor.
