Chapter 541
Fine, I'll check it out myself.
Soon, she finished reading the contents of the report.
The report stated: Paternity test.
The last line read: Specimen A and Specimen B are biologically father and daughter.
Each word that Waverly engaged with drove her into complete bewilderment.
“S-Steven, is this your DNA test with Zoey?”
“There's no need for me to update you if it's my report with Zoey. After all, she's been our daughter for over twenty years. We've always treated her like our own flesh and blood.”
Waverly's hand, which was holding the report, started trembling gently when she heard the confirmation.
She was not a fool, so she knew what was going on right away.
“Y-You mean this is your result with Bailey?”
Steven nodded. “Waverly, Bailey is our biological daughter, whereas Zozo belongs to the Jefferson family. Back then, Sophia swapped the babies because she wanted her child to grow up in a rich and prestigious family. Honestly, the paternity test is unnecessary. The similarities between your appearance and Bay's say it all.”
At his words, the report slipped through Waverly's fingers and fell to the floor.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAstounded, she stared at her husband. “S-So, that girl is truly my daughter? She's a Shurmer?” Waverly asked in a quavering voice.
Steven held her in his arms and sighed. “I know it's hard for you to accept this sudden piece of news, but this is an indisputable fact. We can't deny the truth. Waverly, our daughter has suffered tremendously all these years. We've got to take her back.”
“Then, what about Zozo?” Waverly lifted her head and looked him in the eyes, asking solemnly, “Zozo has been living with us for more than two decades. Although we aren't related by blood, I won't give her up even if...”
She did not complete her sentence, but Steven could roughly guess her intention. Waverly would rather keep Zoey, who had been with her for over twenty years, than acknowledge Bailey.
Steven knitted his brows and replied grimly, “Don't utter such a thing anymore. They are both Shurmers. Rest assured that I won't send Zozo away even if Bay reclaims her identity.”
“Okay. I watched Zozo grow up, so I must keep her in the Shurmer family. She will always be my daughter!”
Steven stayed by her side and said nothing.
That afternoon, an earthquake broke out in Hallsbay.
Actually, the natural disaster happened in Quadfield, but its intensity triggered a series of powerful tremors in its neighboring city. Consequently, the entire Hallsbay was affected and shook violently.
When the ground first started shaking, Artemis was having a top management meeting at the office. The extreme aftershocks felt caused the man, who had never been afraid of death, to be fearful for the first time in his life.
He drove on a rampage and sped as fast as he could to the Luther residence to check on Bailey and the children. After making sure that the ones closest to him were all right, he heaved a sigh of relief.
When Felicity saw her son sweating in panic mode, she teased him, “It's true when people say one forgets his mother once he's married. You asked about your wife and children upon coming home, but you didn't bother checking in on me.”
As she spoke, she passed a slice of apple to Bailey. “When I'm old and have problems moving around, you ought to take care of me like how I'm serving you now. Understand?”
Bailey found it amusing.
As soon as they reconciled, Felicity turned into a different person. She would often act like a child when interacting with Bailey.
She did not reprimand Bailey at all even when the latter had a miscarriage. Conversely, Felicity hired an internationally renowned nutritionist to look after Bailey's health and help her recuperate.
“Sure! When you get old, I'll serve you tea and take care of your daily needs.”
Afterward, she took two pieces of tissue and walked toward Artemis to wipe the sweat off his forehead.
Artemis locked fingers with her, his body still shaking lightly. It was obvious that he had not recovered from the shock yet.
“Bailey, an earthquake occurred without any warning. Death was so close to us!”
She rubbed his chest in hopes of comforting him. “You spent three billion building the Luther residence, and its foundation is extremely solid. This mansion will still stand firmly and unaffected even if the earthquake takes place in Hallsbay, let alone a tremor. We won't be in any danger. You worry too much.”
Artemis hugged her tightly and said in a slightly shaky voice, “The magnitude of the quake in Quadfield was very high.”
Then, Bailey turned around and looked at the LED television mounted on the wall. The news was broadcasting the unexpected catastrophe.
“Yeah. I heard that the tremors affected half the nation, causing tragedy for countless families. One of the counties was completely destroyed, while many people elsewhere are left homeless. The death toll continues to soar from the devastating disaster.”
“I've urged all the charitable organizations managed by Luther Group to open up aid routes to deliver supplies. They are to provide aid and relief immediately to resolve the pressing needs of the masses,” Artemis murmured.
Bailey lowered her eyes and smiled. She knew he had a heart of gold although he seldom showed it.
“Oh no, oh no! Looks like it's time to say goodbye to my money again,” Zayron cried from a distance away, exasperation written all over his face.
He drove on a rampage and sped as fast as he could to the Luther residence to check on Bailey and the children. After making sure that the ones closest to him were all right, he heaved a sigh of relief.

Previously, whenever a natural disaster occurred, Bailey would donate lots of money to the victims. She doesn't give in small amounts either. As if that isn't enough damage, now there's Dad in the mix too. How much will these two partners in crime donate? I wouldn't be surprised if their minimum contribution adds up to tens of billions.
Bailey shot him a cold glance and said indifferently, “From what I know, you have quite a lot of savings, right? Three hundred million? Five hundred million? Or is it a billion? Withdraw all of your money to help others. Saving lives is more important.”
Instantly, Susan sprang up from the couch, darted to her mother, and hugged Bailey's thigh with one arm. Then, she whipped out a gold card from her pocket and gave it to Bailey.
“Mommy, here's Zayron's card. I don't know his password, but I bet it'll be easy-peasy for you to find that out.”
Zayron went ballistic at her words. He pointed at his sister and started cursing, “You rascal! I'd be better off keeping a loyal dog than raising an ingrate like you!”
Everyone watched on and said nothing.
Meanwhile, Sofie had an appointment with Yvette at a coffee shop.
“You see, Evie, disasters and accidents happen every single day. Life is short, and you only live once. Therefore, it's only right that you prioritize yourself first.”
Yvette narrowed her eyes at Sofie and said solemnly, “Cut to the chase. What is it that you want to tell me? You aren't a saint, so please don't act like you're a compassionate person. How disgusting!”
Sofie slowly moved her gaze away and chuckled. “Bailey just had a miscarriage. Don't you think she's most vulnerable at this point? Aren't you going to grab the chance and take advantage of the situation?”
Yvette's expression darkened as rage surfaced in her eyes. She spoke through gritted teeth. “Do you think taking advantage of Bailey is child's play? I must fan the flames of conflict and sow discord between the two factions before exposing her identity as the head of the Saviors. This is the only way to invoke the public's wrath and achieve the most desirable outcome.”
Sofie flashed a smile and commented, “You're right, Evie. However, it's not good enough for you to stir up small fights among them. It won't capture the attention of the high-ranked members from either faction. As long as those at the top aren't bothered by it, you won't be able to create an uproar.”
Yvette glared at her and uttered grimly, “Don't beat around the bush but speak your mind frankly. I'm sure you've thought of a plan since you asked to see me. Tell me what you want me to do.”
